WUGNET, the Nat'l Windows Users Group Network and Kindlco, are pleased to announce the availability of the upgraded version of an essential utility for Windows users and developers. WINPRINT(tm) 1.1 is a MS Windows based text file printing and formatting application. WINPRINT provides a unique solution for the control of printing of ASCII (text files) using the MS Windows virtual device output support . Included as an exclusive shareware utility for WUGNETthe National Window Users Group Network, an international organization for users and developers of MS Windows and OS/2 Presentation Manager, WINPRINT represents the first of many utilities and applications distributed to members of the National Windows Users Group Network .Wugnet distributes data library entries quarterly to members. All WUGNET disk contributions are required to adhere to high quality and professional standards for performance, documentation, reliability and value for users and developers of the Windows and OS/2 Presentation Manager. WINPRINT was extensively tested by the independent contributing staff of WUGNET, insuring that the utility will conform to users needs and expectations. Dozens of print tests were completed to ensure that WINPRINT conformed to Windows printing model and hundreds of third party output devices supporting the MS Windows graphics device interface. "Users and developers are often overwhelmed by the sheer number of ASCII files that accumulate on their desktops, including the dozens of readme files included from third parties." states Howard Sobel, Editor for the WUGNET Journal, the technical publication for the National Windows Users Group Network. "WINPRINT can globally print all readme files with an easy click of the mouse, while providing the user with specific typefaces and header information. Kindlco should be applauded for introducing a basic but essential utility for windows. WINPRINT's FEATURES The latest release of WINPRINT includes all the features found in WINPRINT 1.0 for Windows 2.X, except it now supports all modes of Windows 3.0 and features support for the new printer drivers and API included in WIN 3.0. It is also downward compatible with Windows 2.X, both 386 and 286 versions. WINPRINT has been designed as a tool for printing text files while using Microsoft Windows. In it's current incarnation, Windows provides essentially one way of sending plain text files to the printer:- using the Print..command in the File menu of the MS- DOS Executive. The MSDOS File.Print function provides little if any support for formatting. Winprint will alleviate this problem. All Window users and developers will appreciate the features of WINPRINT. If you program, you can use it to obtain better source code listings. Electronic mail users will find WINPRINT a timesaver for printing messages they have received. WINPRINT also provides another way to bypass the inherent deficiencies of the Windows Spooler utility. Winprint uses the Windows Spooler to effectively manage it's output. For example, one can print the largest of your files and still be able to get other work done on your computer. For example, suppose you have five text files created with the Notepad editor that you would like to print. Using the MS-DOS File.Print... command you could select each file and print each individually. If you print to the file to disk, successive files will overwrite the preceding file. Winprint lets you select multiple files to be printed as one job/file. WINPRINT 1.0 also includes powerful user-defined formatting features. WINPRINT users will immediately appreciate the advanced control for output; including formatting for custom header and footers, margin control, font control, tab/space options, formfeed support, and saved configurations. All features from WINPRINT's menus are also accessible through command line execution {E.G. Executing WINPRINT from the MSDOS File.Run}. A thorough on- line help system for all features in provided. WINPRINT's specific formatting control for printed text files include: * Custom Headers and Footers - Headers and footers can be printed on each page and can contain the name of the file, the time and date the file was last revised, the current time and date, and page numbers. * Margin Control: Top, left, bottom, and right margins can be set using either inches or the metric system. * Font Control: Winprint allows the user to select fonts, point sizes, and print attributes such as bold, italic, and underline. * Headers/Footers and the text being printed can use different fonts and attributes. * Tab and Form Feed Support: Many files that you might want to print on your PC contain Tab and Form Feed characters. Winprint can be set to convert tab characters to any number of spaces, or to ignore them. Winprint also "understands" form feeds and takes appropriate action. * Multiple Saved Configurations: Winprint can save it's configuration for each type of file you print. For example you might have one configuration named "SourceCode" that would spit your files out using landscape mode and the file date in the header. At the same time you could also have a configuration named "Documentation". This configuration would be used to print shareware documentation. * Command Line Support: While Winprint has a carefully crafted user interface that takes full advantage of Windows, all options can be set from the command line. This enables you to run Winprint from a program manager or third party Windows application such as Wilson WindowWare's Command Post and Softbridge's Bridge transparently! ============================================================================== HOW TO GET WINPRINT for WIN 3.0 a)For WUGNET Members - WUGNET maintains a WUGNET members-only data library on Data Library Section #14 on the WINAPB Forum on CompuServe.
