What is MEWEL?

MENUGEN is a menu editor for the MEWEL Window System.
It allows you to construct and modify menubars and
their associated pulldown menus. The menubar can then
be translated into a resource file description for use
with your MEWEL applications. 

There are two ways to start MENUGEN. The first way is by
specifying the name of the compiled resource file to use
on the command line. For instance, the command
             menugen foo
would look for a file called FOO.RES. If this file is
found, a listbox containing the identifiers of all the
menus which are defined in that RES file is presented
to you. You can then choose a menubar to edit.

  The other way to invoke MENUGEN is without a filename
on the command line. In this case, a dummy menubar will
be displayed. You can then edit this menubar to create
the desired menu system. 

  There is one command line switch which MENUGEN under-
stands. The -m option will tell MENUGEN to use the
monochrome color mapping.

To exit MENUGEN, you can press the ALT X key or you can
invoke the FILE pulldown menu and press 'x'.

There are two kinds of menu items which you can edit -
menubar items and pulldown menu items. To choose an
item, you must use a mouse. (Sorry, there is no key-
board interface at this time.)

To edit a menubar item, move the mouse pointer over the
item which you want to edit and click the RIGHT button.

To edit a pulldown menu item, you must first display
the pulldown. To do this, move the mouse pointer over
the corresponding menubar item and press the LEFT but-
ton. The pulldown menu should appear. Then, keeping the
LEFT button depressed, move the mouse until the item
you want to edit is highlighted. Then release the mouse
button. 

In both cases, a dialog box appears, and you should
fill out the information and choose the appropriate
editing action. 

<APPEND> will add the defined menu item to the end of
the menubar or pulldown menu.

<INSERT> will add the defined menu item before the
chosen menubar or pulldown menu item.

<CHANGE> will change the information associated with
the current menubar or pulldown menu item.

<DELETE> will remove a menubar or a pulldown menu item.

Library. It is the first text-mode windowing library
to use the message-passing model like other state of
the art windowing systems such as MS-Windows, PM,
X WIndows and the MacIntosh. MEWEL supports all of
the modern controls, like dialog boxes, edit fields,
scrollbars, radio buttons, check boxes, push buttons,
and listboxes. Full mouse support is included.
