NeoDesk¾ 3.01 to 3.02 Patch Program This program will upgrade NeoDesk version 3.01 to the version 3.02. It will ONLY upgrade version 3.01. This program is copyright ½ 1991 by Gribnif Software. A non-modified, registered, NeoDesk 3 Master Disk, version 3.01. USA release only. Owners of foreign versions should refer to their respective distributor. 2. A hard disk or a blank formatted floppy disk (to place the PATCH302.NPG on). How to upgrade your NeoDesk version 3.01 to version 3.02 ========================================================= 1. Make sure you have made a backup copy of the NeoDesk 3 Master Disk. Note: If you have modified or created any new icons using the Icon Editor, you should save a ".NIC" file containing those icons. This upgrade will replace your resource files, where NeoDesk stores its icons. This means that you will lose any new icons you have (unless you save them to a ".NIC" file which you can then load into the newer version). 2. Place the PATCH302.NPG on your hard disk or on the blank floppy disk (it may need the extra disk space to write some temporary files). 3. Run your copy of NeoDesk 3.01, then run the PATCH302.NPG from inside NeoDesk 3. Since the patch program itself is a "NeoDesk Program", you can only run it from inside NeoDesk itself. 4. Follow the on-screen prompts. 6. Once you have finished upgrading your master disk to version 3.02, make a backup copy of this newer version. ** VERY IMPORTANT STEP, READ CAREFULLY ** 6. To install the newer version on your system, you MUST replace ALL the NeoDesk 3.01 files in your system with the 3.02 version files. Basically, these are ALL the files in the "ACCS" and "NEODESK3" folders. Mixing 3.01 versions of NeoDesk 3 files with 3.02 versions is VERY likely to lead to promblems (including unexpected crashes). *** ULTRA IMPORTANT ** * * Don't forget to replace all the copies of NEOLOAD.PRG, including the * one in the AUTO folder of your boot disk! * ********************** 7. Copy the newer INF_CONV.NPG & INF_CONV.RSC files to your NeoDesk 3 Extras Disk, these are newer versions designed to work with version 3.02. If you get an error message =========================== If your NeoDesk 3 Master Disk has been modified in any way (including adding icons to the default resource files), the patch program will not be able to perform the upgrade. You will get an error message indicating that this has happened. In this case. you should mail us the disk so that we can upgrade it. To have your disk upgraded by us, you need to: 1. Send in your original, registered, NeoDesk 3.01 Master Disk. 2. Enclose a U.S. check for $5 + $2 shipping & handling ($7 total). 3. Enclose a note with your name, address, and daytime phone number. In return you will receive the upgraded 3.02 Master Disk. Major Fixes =========== o Performing a "Show Information..." on a folder in the Icon Editor will no longer cause a crash. o The corner clock will work correctly if a Moniterm/Viking monitor is connected without an SM124 (Atari Monochrome Monitor). o The "original name" of a file during a name conflict can now be safely renamed. o The printer queue will correctly perform a form feed between files, if the option is selected. o The counter of how many files and folders are still waiting to be copied is correctly updated when copying into the File Clipboard¿. o Partitions with sector sizes greater than 1024 bytes are now handled correctly (usually seen as hard disk partitions larger than 32 megs). o MetaDOS¿ devices and other non-standard GEMDOS driver letters are now handled correctly (without the "TOS -1" error messages). o Batch files are now correctly treated as Active Icons¿. o Fixed a minor bug in the "shel_" calls for TOS 1.4 and above. o Fixed a problem that could cause a crash when using programs that use "shel_write" extensively (such as Easy-Draw & OutPrint). What's Modified =============== o The trap #1 handler has been modified to be compatible with the illegal way that ZoomRacks¿ does its GEMDOS calls. o Neoload will correctly detect the TOS 2.0x and 3.0x desktops. o Changes in the interrupt code solve problems with ProText¿, ProData¿, CodeKeys¿, and Hardcopy (included with Calamus¿). However, newer versions of ProData¿, ProText¿, and CodeKeys¿ also solve this problem with NeoDesk 3.01. o Another minor change in the interrupt code allows HotSaver¿ to work without problems (not sure why). o Changed part of the "shel_" code to prevent a problem that developed when using MultiDesk with programs that made extensive use of the "shel_write" calls (from within NeoDesk). What's New ========== o The icon editor will read any bit images contained within a resource file, not just icons. o "Create .NIC File..." now opens a window to a new .NIC file. o Pressing the [Control] key while single clicking on an icon in the Icon Editor will allow you to change its template. o New "Save .NIC File" entry in the Icon Editor saves the topmost window, if it is a NIC file. o Minor changes allow the new NeoDesk Accessories "Call NeoDesk" and "Item Chooser" to work. o Special support in Neoload for MultiDesk will make sure that MultiDesk has finished loading all of its accessories before loading NeoDesk. The NeoDesk drop-down menus appear inside the window and you can scroll and resize it just like any other window. Best of all, it does all of this in less than 7K! 2. Item Chooser This NeoDesk Accessory will select any group of items (files or folders) from your topmost NeoDesk window which match any of the specified criteria. These can include: o Up to four different file templates o Item size (less than, greater than, or equal to) o Item date (less than, greater than, or equal to) o Item time (less than, greater than, or equal to) o Item type (read only, archive bit) For example, you could have it select from the topmost NeoDesk window all files matching the template of "*.C" which have a file date newer than 01/01/91. The Item Chooser would go through the window and select all files which match that specification.
