	Phoenix for Portfolio
	=====================
        (release Nov 1995)

	System requirements:
	--------------------

	This game only runs correctly on the Atari-Portfolio palmtop-
	computer. Mine came with DIP 2.11 v1.072. I hope that there
	aren't any problems with other versions.
	However, please backup important data before starting the
	program. I assume no liability for any damage which may result
	from the use of this software, even if your display suddenly
	melts.

	Disk space: 5815 Bytes (uncompressed code) + 320 Bytes scores
	free RAM: at least about 6.5 kByte

	Notes:
	- If Phoenix.sco does not exist yet, it will be created in the
	  current directory.
	- In the System/Display menu, "Refresh" and "Speed" should be set
	  to normal.
	- In the System/Sounds menu, "Key Click" should be switched off.
	- When the game is interrupted, switch off sound before turning
	  off the Portfolio.
	- If an alarm goes off during the game you will probably (not
	  necessarily) hear the tone but not see the message.

	How to play:
	------------

        Space           =       Fire
	Cursor left = Start/stop moving left
	Cursor right = Start/stop moving right
	Cursor up/down = Use shield (if available)
	S               =       Switch sound on/off
	P               =       Pause
	ESC             =       Exit to system
        H               =       display help
        J               =       Switch Joystick control on/off
	other keys      =       display info

	By pressing any key directly after starting phoenix.exe, sound
	is switched off.

        Joystick-support:
        Optionally, a digital Joystick (as for use with C=64, Atari 800
        etc.) can be connected to the parallel port with a simple adaptor.
        The specifications of the adaptor were defined by Jan Sedlak in
        October 1995 and are very close to these of the Joystick-adaptor
        for PC64, a C=64-emulator by W. Lorenz for IBM-compatible PCs.
        Please contact me for further info or get the file joystick.lzh.
        The autodetect-routine of PHOENIX enables the Joystick-control,
        if the adaptor is found at the start of the program.
        Important hint: If you turn off and on again the Portfolio during
        a game, the parallel port has to be reinitialized by pressing <J>
        two times.

        The game:
	In every level several fleets of enemy spacecrafts have to be
	destroyed. In the last stage of every level the big spaceship
	must be hit four times in the center. If you don't have 4 spare
	lives yet, you will get a bonus life before entering stage 1
	of the next level.
	The number of levels is not limited, but difficulty increases.
	Every 1000 points you receive a shield that can be used once.

	Scoring:
	hit small enemy aircraft = 10 Pts
	hit big enemy aircraft at hull = 1 Point
	hit big enemy aircraft at first shield = 3 Pts
	hit big enemy aircraft at second shield = 5 Pts
	hit big enemy aircraft at the center = 100 Pts
