DIDDY'S "KONG QUEST" OVER VIDEO GAME INDUSTRY IMMINENT Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest Sequel to the Fastest Selling Video Game in History Expected To Dominate Holiday Sales LOS ANGELES, May 11, 1995 -- Today, Nintendo of America Inc. announced it has joined forces once again with the U.K.-based video game designers of Rare, Ltd., the imaginative team responsible for Donkey Kong Country, to introduce Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest this fall. In this exciting 16-bit sequel, Diddy Kong teams up with a new, female sidekick, Dixie Kong, to take on the evil Kremlings who have kong-napped Donkey Kong. In Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest, Rare continues to demonstrate its technical and creative leadership by taking its proprietary design technology, Advanced Computer Modeling (ACM), to new heights. Rare designers have refined and improved ACM, resulting in mesmerizing, 3-D special effects and vivid colors, even more spectacular than Donkey Kong Country, the game which revolutionized graphics for 16-bit video game systems. "Nintendo raised the bar with Donkey Kong Country and created a new, unmatched, 16-bit gold standard for the entire industry," says Peter Main, Nintendo vice president, marketing. "We broke all records; no one else has come close to delivering this kind of performance for the 16-bit platform, and we've only just begun. Diddy's Kong Quest will deliver spectacular animation, enhanced level of game play and exploding colors to make it one of the hottest video games in 1995." In this adventure, Diddy Kong and Dixie Kong search through more than 100 fascinating, visually compelling levels in a quest to unearth the mystery of Donkey Kong's disappearance. Dixie adds new game-play action as she uses her ponytail to hurl barrels and spin down from high altitudes. Diddy can also lift Dixie into hard-to-reach places as they try to uncover clues to Donkey Kong's disappearance. Diddy's Kong Quest is an action/adventure game with the challenge and excitement of Donkey Kong Country, but with new, obstacle-filled environments. The action begins on the wreck of King K. Rool's Gangplank Galleon, which crashed off the reef of the evil Kremling's island. In an effort to rescue Donkey Kong from King K. Rool, Diddy Kong and Dixie Kong explore a spooky haunted forest, treacherous swamps, a giant bee hive oozing with sticky honey, and lava-filled caves. As Diddy Kong and Dixie Kong search for their missing buddy, they meet an entire new cast of characters, both good and bad. Completely re-designed Kremlings, in pirate costumes, hinder Diddy Kong's Quest, while a new group of supporters, including a tennis shoe-clad spider and slinky snake, hasten his search. The Diddy's Kong Quest soundtrack features clear, crisp stereo sound and will be available on compact-disk through Nintendo Power's Super Power club. Diddy's Kong Quest has a manufacturers's Suggested retail price of $69.95* and will be available in retail stores in November 1995.
