STRATEGY GUIDE - TERMINAL VELOCITY Live and Let Die! Get rid of those galactic grudges with Apogee's Terminal Velocity The TV-202 is the most powerful and destructive spacecraft ever created. Your mission is to locate and destroy enemy forces responsible for an unwarranted attack on Earth. The only problem is that you’re severely outnumbered and you will need to apply your strategy skills as well as your firepower in order to complete the task ahead. FLIGHT CONTROLS AND WEAPONS Inside the cockpit of the TV-202 you will find several displays providing you with the vital information you will need to survive. Your shield status level must be monitored constantly; if your shields ever deplete, you are as good as scrap metal. The short-range radar will guide you from one target to the next while indicating the position of enemy forces, ground structures and tunnels relative to you. You can also switch from short-range to long-range radar by using the ‘tab’ key, which will utilize the main screen to display the radar blips instead of the short-range radar display. Another useful feature of the TV-202 is its afterburners, which can get you out of a mess in a hurry at the press of a button. However, in order to use the afterburners, you must collect afterburner power-ups, each providing 120 units of fuel, which burn up very quickly during use, and you can’t fire any of your weapons while the afterburner is in use. With this in mind, you should use your afterburners in emergency situations to conserve fuel. The TV-202 comes equipped with the Plasma Assault Cannon (PAC) which has an infinite ammo supply and can inflict an acceptable amount of damage. Additional weapons must be collected, and with the exception of the PAC and Rapid Targeting Laser (RTL), all have a finite ammo supply. The most versatile and efficient weapon is the RTL, packing a greater punch than the PAC and it has an accelerated rate of fire. The Ion-Burst cannon (ION) shoots a widespread array of energy spheres, but is less accurate than either laser cannons. The Manually Aimed Missiles (MAM) can deliver an impressive punch, ideal for taking out enemy ground installations, but you must aim them accurately in order to get the most from these missiles. The Seek-and-Destroy (SAD) missiles overcome the need to aim, which makes them the perfect fire-and-forget weapon. The Shock Wave Torpedoes (SWT) can take out multiple ground targets simultaneously, and the Discrete Annihilations Missile (DAM) will obliterate anything within a given radius. Collecting weapon power-ups for the PAC, ION and RTL will increase their respective power by two with 100 extra shots for every second power-up, and increase their respective power by four with 200 extra shots for every third power-up. INTERPLANETARY WARFARE TECHNIQUES: YMIR 1.1 - 1.3 Levels 1.1 to 1.3 take place on Ymir, a snow covered planet with mountainous regions and a foggy atmosphere. Snowscouts and Iceriders patrol the air space while tanks are positioned along the surface. A few shots from your PAC will destroy any of these enemy forces, so it's just a matter of aiming your crosshairs on them. The Snowscouts are easy targets, but watch out for the Iceriders; they operate at higher speeds and have greater firepower capabilities than the Snowscouts. Use your radar to locate and destroy the target objectives which include the YIC-7 Comm arrays and the YEC Power stations. Collecting power-ups can be achieved by either blowing up any bunkers you come across or venturing into any tunnels you can find. You can also re-enter any tunnel at any time to collect more power-ups. When you reach the mission objective, or boss, at the end of level 1.3, you will need to destroy the four shield generators before you can begin firing at the boss. Just be sure to keep changing your position while avoiding its swinging arms during the process, or else the boss will quickly terminate your existence. WELCOME TO CRYTHANIA 2.1 - 2.3 Your mission objective for Crythania is to destroy the Hellhawk warship at the end of level 2.3. To attack the Hellhawk, you must first let it leave the surrounding monoliths, then proceed to pursue the warship in a serpentine pattern while firing your most powerful weapon. Enemy air forces include Shockstars and Skyhawk-2s with Ion Burst cannons. Do not ignore their presence at any time and destroy them as soon as they show up on short-range radar. GBL Turrets pose a considerable threat with their deadly accurate anti-aircraft fire. If you can’t take these turrets out, you should use your afterburners to get by them, and be careful not to scrape into the canyon walls. MOON DAGGER 3.1 - 3.3 The Moon Dagger is an incredibly large spacecraft with the ability to obliterate an entire planet. Your mission objective is to destroy the Gravitational Re-Orientation Base located onboard the ship at the end of level 3.3. In order to destroy this fireball-shooting boss, you will need to eliminate its shield generators located within the pits surrounding the boss. Use your RTL on the shield generators, then switch to missiles for the boss. The WBF MaxFlak gun batteries provides formidable anti-aircraft fire. Take them out with your RTL or use your afterburners to get around them. Air threats include the Gray-Gull 1 with short-range twin lasers, the WSF Razor-4 with Ion Burst cannons and AFIGHT-2 ships with pilot and gunner. Ground targets include SCARE radar dishes and SCORE comm arrays. TEI TENGA 4.1 - 4.3 The next episode begins with the sand laden planet of Tei Tenga. Enemy air forces are menacing and extremely deadly. TTA Sandstorms, maneuverable Penetrators and camouflaged Dustdevils will keep you preoccupied for awhile. Beware of the helicopter gunships; you will want to destroy these first while they’re still grounded, because once airborne, these ships disperse instant death with scores of rocket attacks. Obliterate any large physical structures as well, since the entrance to several tunnels can be found underneath them. Your mission objective is to destroy the Thundercraft at the end of level 4.3. Remember to save your most powerful weapons for this engagement. OSITSHO 5.1 - 5.3 Level 5.1 begins on the volcanic planet of Ositsho, and like its name, its location strongly resembles something from a Godzilla movie. Your mission objective is to destroy the Magma Dragon, a stationary fireball-flinging boss that rarely misses its target. Enemy air forces consist of Wedge fighters, OSO Phoenix fighters and Quadrams that perform kamakazi maneuvers upon you if let them get too close to your ship. Ground targets include OPG heatminers and OSO control towers. Plan for a quick and heavy engagement. ERIGONE 6.1 - 6.3 Your mission objective for the planet Erigone is to destroy the Thorium Core located in a tunnel at the end of level 6.3. Shield generators must first be eliminated, followed by a two-stage boss that takes twice the beating. Remember to reposition yourself constantly while attacking the boss, or else subject yourself to its merciless onslaught of fire. Enemy ground targets include Erigean Mine Rovers and EMC Command Posts. Randorian batteries provide the surface-to-air threat and Erigean Shrieks patrol the skies. CENTAURI III 7.1 - 7.3 The scenario that begins episode three on the Centauri III planet borrows the Hawaii 5-0 theme, complete with palm trees, speed boats and surfing music. Your mission objective is to destroy the C-Nome Factory at the end of level 7.3, which produces these two-legged scout-walker lookalikes at an alarming rate. The factory itself takes quite a bit of punishment, but be sure your weapons are aimed at the base of the neck of the tower. If you see pieces flying off and the boss’s shield level diminishing, you’re hitting the right spot. Hydrosleds fire the RTL, so you will need to take them out first. The best strategy for eliminating this threat is to circle the perimeter of each island’s coast at a few feet above sea level, and use your RTL against them. If you attack them from above, you’re sure to be splashed in no time. Destroy every C-Nome as well, although they pose no real threat, their destruction is pertinent to the mission objective. The CAF Attack Fighter is highly maneuverable and should be dealt with accordingly. CERES ASTEROID 8.1 - 8.3 The mission objective for Ceres Asteroid is to destroy the Ion Pulse Motivator at the end of level 8.3 and prevent Ceres from crashing into the Earth. Take out the shield generators first before attempting to destroy the reactor itself, and remember to constantly reposition yourself. Air threats include DT5-1 transport crafts and falling asteroids, while ATAB anti-aircraft batteries and shield towers make up your ground targets. PROXIMA SEVEN 9.1 - 9.2 The final confrontation takes place on Proxima Seven. Your mission objective is to locate and destroy the super computer of the XI. Enemy air and ground threats consist of armed drones and XI tracking towers. Take out every relay tower and watch out for anti-aircraft batteries while doing so. Once inside the catacomb of the super computer of the XI, you must destroy all eight shield generators before you can attack the computer itself. When the shields are disabled, fire your most powerful weapon at the base of the super computer while avoiding its impulse fire. After the computer is destroyed, proceed through the tunnel to victory! -Frank Snyder -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
