Software Release SW/200-A/BSC/SDLC Version 22020 October 20, 1989 Part Number: 86-0172-00 Revision: 02 TO: CS/210 Users FROM: 3Com Corporation SUBJECT: SW/200-A/BSC/SDLC Version 22020 DATE: October 20, 1989 Enclosed is a distribution diskette containing SW/200-A/BSC/SDLC Version 22020 (Part Number: 83-0073-05) for use with a CS/210 that supports a 3 1/2-inch floppy disk drive. This release memo describes the compatibility, copy procedure, and limitations of this software. Compatibility SW/200-A/BSC/SDLC Version 22020 operates with the following 3Com products and software releases: CS/1 running SW/1-A/BSC/SDLC Version 20060 or later IB/3 running SW/20-IB Version 11000 or later NCS/150 running SW/150-NCS Version 10010 or later NCS/AT running SW/AT-NCS Version 11000 or later Table 1 illustrates the hardware and firmware compatibility requirements of SW/200-A/BSC/SDLC Version 22020. Table 1 Hardware/Firmware Compatibility Product Software Firmware CS/210 SW/200-A/BSC/SDLC Version 22020 F2 MMON 01A or later ** NOTE ** You must press the Return key after you type each command in all procedures described in this release memo. Copying the Software Before you run SW/200-A/BSC/SDLC Version 22020 on your CS/210, make a copy of the distribution diskette using the following procedure: 1. Attach a terminal to port 0 of the server. 2. Make sure that there is no diskette in the disk drive. Then power on the server. The Self Test LED turns on. 3. Reset the server, and press the hardware interrupt switch. For further information on the location and operation of the hardware interrupt switch, refer to "Hardware Interrupt Switch" in the Series/200 Installation Guide. 4. Press the Return key. The monitor prompt (>) appears. 5. Perform firmware configuration on the server if necessary. Otherwise, go on to the next step. Refer to "Firmware Configuration" in the Series/200 Installation Guide for further information on firmware configuration. After you perform firmware configuration, return to the monitor prompt (>). 6. At the monitor prompt (>), type the following command to make a copy of the distribution diskette: co where n is the number of copies to be made. The following message appears on the screen: insert master and hit the Return key 7. Insert the SW/200-A/BSC/SDLC Version 22020 distribution diskette in the disk drive. Then press the Return key. The following messages appear on the screen if the read completes successfully: reading ... OK insert copy 1 and hit the Return key In the actual display, the number in the message may vary according to the number of copies you have made. If the message "read error" appears instead of the message "OK," contact an authorized 3Com service representative for help. 8. Remove the SW/200-A/BSC/SDLC Version 22020 distribution diskette from the disk drive, and store it in a safe place. Insert a blank, 135 TPI, double-sided, double-density, 3 1/2 inch diskette in the disk drive. Then press the Return key. If the copy completes successfully, the following messages appear on the screen: formatting ... writing ... verifying ... OK copy completed 9. Remove the diskette from the disk drive, and label it "SW/200-A/BSC/SDLC Version 22020." 10. Before you upgrade from SW/200-A/BSC/SDLC Version 22010 to Version 22020, copy the global, macro, and configuration files saved on your Version 22010 diskette by inserting the Version 22010 diskette and typing the following command: r 4e1 103000 15E00 11. Insert the newly made working copy of SW/200-A/BSC/SDLC Version 22020 and type the following command: w 4e1 103000 15E00 The global, macro, and configuration files are now stored on your working copy of SW/200-A/BSC/SDLC Version 22020. You can now use this copy on your server. ** NOTE ** If you use the configurations, macros, and global files copied from a previous version of SW/200-A/BSC/SDLC, you must use the SETD command to set the value of the AUditTrailType, TimeZone, DaylightSavingsTime, NetMapBroadcast, and MacType parameters after booting the server. Sysgen System generation can be performed on the CS/210 running SW/200-A/BSC/SDLC Ver sion 22020. The Sysgen parameters and default values for the CS/210 are the same as for the CS/200. Refer to the sections on the CS/200 in the Configuration Guide for further information on the Sysgen program. To start the Sysgen program, follow these steps: 1. Attach a terminal to port 0 on the CS/210. 2. Make sure that there is no diskette in the disk drive of the CS/210, and then power on the CS/210. The Self Test LED turns on. 3. Reset the CS/210 and press the hardware interrupt switch. For further information on the location and operation of the hardware interrupt switch, refer to "Hardware Interrupt Switch" in the Series/200 Installation Guide. 4. Press the Return key. Then the monitor prompt (>) appears. 5. Perform firmware configuration if necessary. Otherwise, go on to the next step. Refer to "Firmware Configuration" in the Series/200 Installation Guide for further information on firmware configuration. After you perform firmware configuration, return to the monitor prompt (>). 6. Insert into the disk drive the SW/200-A/BSC/SDLC Version 22020 diskette that you created in the software copy procedure. 7. At the Monitor prompt (>), type the following command to invoke the Sysgen program: bt 1d The Sysgen program is invoked, and the Main Menu is displayed. Refer to the Configuration Guide for further information on the Sysgen program. Limitations SW/200-A/BSC/SDLC Version 22020 has the following limitation: Only three echo requests may be outstanding at any given time.
