Title: 3+Open 1.0 FDISK workaround

In 3+Open 1.0, FDISK will not work on PS/2 drives of 111 MB or
300 MB with ESDI controllers.  After partitioning and formatting
the drive, the system does not boot up.

The problem will be fixed in 3+Open 1.1.  Until then, the
workaround is to use IBM's OS/2 1.1 FDISK to partition the drive
and format, then run the install program for OS/2, and then
install 3+Open 1.0 LAN Manager on top.

Note:  Before using IBM's FDISK, it is advisable to do a low-level
format.  To do a low-level format, follow these steps.

1.  Boot the PS/2 with the reference disk included with the
    system.

2.  When the first screen group comes up, press Return.

    This will take you to the next screen group.

3.  Type Ctrl-A to enter the Advanced Diagnostics menu.

4.  Use the "Format Fixed Disk" option to do a low level format.

In the case of a Compaq system, there are Advanced
Diagnostics supplied to Certified Compaq Technicians.

After performing the low-level format, make the following
modifications:

1.  On the 3+Open Server #1 diskette, check the part number in
    the lower right-hand corner to see if you have the file
    XNSNB.OS2, needed to run XNS protocols.

    XNSNB.OS2 is available on 3+Open Server #1 diskettes whose
    part number ends in "-01."  If you have a diskette whose part
    number ends in "-00," you can get the XNSNB.OS2 file by
    downloading it from the Ask3Com Forum or by calling Tech
    Support.

2.  Edit the CONFIG.SYS file to set a new LIBPATH.

    For Named Pipes to work, change the LIBPATH line in
    CONFIG.SYS to read:

    LIBPATH=C:\OS2\DLL;C:\3OPEN\SERVER\LANMAN\NETLIB;C:\OS2\LIB;C:\

    The NETLIB directory should be searched last because OS/2 1.1
    has Named Pipe support built into the kernel.  If you reboot
    the server without editing the LIBPATH, 3Com's *.DLL files
    will be searched before the kernel's *.DLL files are
    searched.

3.  To prevent interference with the 3+Open spooler, disable OS/2
    spooling.  Follow the steps below.

    A.  Press Ctrl-Esc to switch to the Presentation Manager.
    B.  Select the "Start Programs" window.
    C.  Select pull-down menu "Group."
    D.  Select "Utility Programs."
    E.  On the resulting menu, double-click on the "Control
        Panel" line-item.
    F.  On the Control Panel, select the pull-down menu "Set-up."
    G.  O the Set-up menu, select "Spooler Options."
    H.  On the "Spooler Options" menu, click the mouse on the box
        where it says "Spooler is selected"  to de-select
        the spooler. Click on the "Enter" button to accept this
        change and return you to the Control Panel.
    I.  From the Control Panel, select "Exit," followed by "Exit
        Control Panel."  This will return you to the Start
        Programs menu (still set to Utility Programs).
    J.  Reboot the server for all this to take effect.

4.  Change the directory that OS/2 searches for its MODE.COM
    file.

    A.  Go into "Netsetup" and choose "Configure Printers."

        One of the early screens, which requests the pathname for
        the OS/2 MODE command, contains an incorrect path.  It
        reads:  C:\OS2\BIN\MODE.COM.  OS/2 version 1.1 contains
        its MODE.COM command in subdirectory C:\OS2, not
        C:\OS2\BIN.

    B.  Delete "BIN\" from the pathname on this screen.
