Following is a known working register dump for a Hayes v.42 9600 baud
modem.  If you are having difficulty establishing a connection between two of
these modems with 3+Open Internet, verify the register values of your modems
against the set provided below.

Note:  Make sure you verify all register values, not just the initialization
string, because the initialization string configurable in 3+Open Internet may
not correct a register that has previously been set improperly.

1.  To display the register values of your modem, use ProComm (or another
terminal emulator) and type the command "AT&V" (or its equivalent on your
terminal emulator).

Caution:  Some terminal emulators reconfigure your modem.

Internet configures the modem with ECHO off and VERBOSE off.  Use the
commands "ATE1" and "ATV1" to turn on the ECHO and VERBOSE options.   It
may also be useful to reset the modem to the factory default configuration
by issuing the "AT&F" command.

The active profile should be:

When Internet initializes the modem, it restores the active configuration
from stored profile 0, sends the initialization string, and stores the
active configuration back to stored profile 0.

2.  Create a working initialization string by adding &Q5 to the string
provided with 3+Open Internet for the Hayes V-series 9600 baud modem
(non-v.42).

3.  In your modem profile in the Internet configuration, make sure the
connect sequence for "Fast" is set to 78.

This is a known working configuration, but register values other than the
ones mentioned above could be changed and still allow the modem to work.
For example, this configuration sets the S37 register to 009, so that the
modem will connect at 9600 baud.  However, the factory default is 000,
instructing the modem to use the speed of the last AT command.  Either
configuration of the S37 register should work.  Also, the S36 register can
be set to 1 rather than 5 to allow a connection to a 2400 baud modem.
