I don't get it.  
pline 0,0 w 0.2 0.2 0,1 1,1 1,0 C
does what I think you want.  (The lines don't bevel properly till you
hit the C to close the figure.  If you say 0,0 at the end instead of C,
you lose the last bevel.)

Considering the pain that the underdesign of beveling has cost us, I'd
hate to think it wasn't used in the cases that work right.
