Drill
S Drill
This is used to perform drill operations on the current layer and a background
layer. The current layer appears in gray and white, while the background
layer appears in black. These layers contain 3D objects which appear to
be intersecting each other when both layers are visible. Upon performing
a given drill function, the background layer will remain the same while
the current layer will become modified depending on how the objects and
layers intersect. This may involve removing excess portions of the current
layer, depending on the operation. All remaining portions that are within
the drilling layer will be preserved in the current layer. All portions
of the current layer exterior to the drilling tool will be discarded. Each
intersection of the current layer with the drilling tool will become a
point in the current layer, forming new points as necessary. All portions
of the current layer are preserved, yet any intersections with the drilling
object will become a point in the current layer, forming new points as
necessary. All remaining portions that are exterior to the drilling layer
will be preserved in the current layer, while all portions within the drilling
object will be discarded. Each intersection of the current layer with the
drilling tool will become a point in the current layer, forming new points
as necessary.
Boolean
This is used to perform boolean operations on the current layer and a background
layer. The current layer appears in gray and white, while the background
layer appears in black. These layers contain 3D objects which appear to
be intersecting each other when both layers are visible. Upon performing
a given boolean function, the background layer will remain the same while
the current layer will become modified depending on how the objects and
layers intersect. This may involve removing excess portions of the current
layer, depending on the operation.
ADD
All portions of the current layer and drilling layer will be combined
to form a new object in the current layer. Any intersecting polygons or
points will be reconstructed to form new polygons about the surface of
hollow objects.
INTERSECT
Any portion of the current layer within the drilling layer will be
preserved, while any portion exterior to the drilling layer will be discarded.
All intersections will be formed with new points and polygons to form a
new surface for hollow objects.
SUBTRACT
Any portion of the current layer exterior to the drilling layer will
be preserved, while any portion within the drilling layer will be discarded.
All intersections will be formed with new points and polygons to form a
new surface for hollow objects.
UNION
Any portion of the current layer within the drilling layer will be
discarded, while any portion exterior to the drilling layer will be preserved,
combined with any portion of the drilling layer that is exterior to the
current layer. All intersections will be formed with new points and polygons
to form a new surface for hollow objects.
Merge
This is used to remove duplicate points or to merge points that are reasonably
close. This will make many objects look much cleaner, along with reducing
rendering time, memory usage, and improve some rendering techniques. This
is unlike the Polygon Merge command which is used to combine polygons together.
Weld
This option is used to combine points into one single point. First select
the desired points that you wish to weld, and then select this option.
Quantize
This option is used to snap the selected points to the grid or a predefined
interval. This allows points to be aligned in relation to other points
in the objects. This command is necessary due to inaccurate placing via
the mouse. It may also be used to straighten lines or smooth other shapes.
Jitter
This option is used to move each selected point a random distance from
the original location of each individual point. This causes the object
and its points to appear irregular.
Smooth
This option is used to move points into smooth curves, as opposed to irregular
and jagged curves or lines. Sometimes in the conversion of bitmaps and
fonts, staircase shaped edges are formed along the perimeter of the polygons.
Although there is no guarantee that the edges or polygons will be smoothed
perfectly, the smoothing values may be modified and experimented with.
Set Value
This option is used to specify the exact location of a point about a specific
axis. This transposition is only performed on one axis, allowing the points
to be aligned properly in relation to specific points within the object.
