But why? Every Aminet CD has got an index of the whole Aminet. In this index you can search for a program with the help of "AminetFind", which is also one the newer Aminet CDs. The result is a guide. Now you can click on this file and you will know then that you needed program is on AminetSet 1 Disk a. For someone, who possesses all CDs, this means, that the programm can be on Disk 1-7. Very precise! AFind does principally the same. But you can handle the GUI better, especially by using list views, if you have OS3.x. Of course you should have one original AminetCD or one AminetSet. Why ? CDRom-handler 1.8 isn't working correct when using AddIndex. Install AmiCDFS it is better, faster and 100% compatible (Expect this little bug). ° AFind doesn't start. Why? The Locale.library must be within the Libs: directory, if you install AFind while running OS2.1+ or OS3.0+. Furthermore the texts, that are shown in the windows of AFind, are needed. These texts are in the subdirectory "Catalogues" of the program AFind. You are only allowed to copy the icon into another drawer. AFind must be in the same drawer than "Catalogues". ° AFind searches for LHA and multiview, though all adjustments are taken from the Aminet-Settings. Why? The original Find of the Aminet-CDs always searches for programs on the own CD. So the tools for the prefs are connected to one CD without giving the name "AminetX:tools/" for the prefs. Find on Aminet 6, for example, creates "Amint6:Tools/lha" out of the prefs entry "lha". Find on Aminet 7 creates "Aminet7:Tools/lha". For doing this the CD names are not given in the adjustments. So use the file-requester-button in the AFind prefs and show AFind the correct path. It is better to copy these programs onto your harddisk for don't needing to insert the Aminet-CD. ° I want to include AminetSet1, but AddIndex can't find the file "Aminet_Dir.doc". What is wrong? Nothing is wrong. I haven't got any idea, where this file is and what's its name. So please look for the explanations for @{"AddIndex" link "AddIndex" 0}. Here you'll find a bold text concerning further steps. ° Why doesn't find my Mod-Player the music? I have adjusted everything like Find on the Aminet-CD. And I have changed the paths like they are given within the documentation. Because of changing the path CD0:Tools/Player the AminetCD-Find changes the name a little bit, so that it is compatible to the players. So enter "cd0:tools/player t:xyz.mod" in the CLI. So the module won't be found. To solve the problem you must enter the following line ONLY TO THE PLAYER OF THE CD : "cd0:tools/player NoDetach Play". The name of the module will AFind include automatically. ° Since, UpTo and Disk doesn't work. Neither within the window nor in the shell. Why? By using the shell you must enter, for example: AFind Boulderdaesh Since 8 Now all lines are listed, that include "Boulderdaesh" and are on CDs from 8 onwards. It must always follow a number or an AminetSet-ID. This is identically with the ID given by AddIndex. The same happens to the window. Only numbers and "sxy" are possible. x is for the number and y is for the lettercode of the single CD of the set. AFind Boulderdaesh UpTo S6a Here all lines are given, that contain files older than AminetSet-6 disk a. ° How to change the ID or search mode via keyboard? If I open a window the string gadget is activated and after leaving it by pressing return the search starts. TAB doesn't work, if the DiskID gadget is switched off. Use Shift Return to exit the String gadget. Then all gadgets can be used by hitting the underlined key. ° After pressing help no online help appears. What's wrong? AFind operates very close to the "locale.library" and its adjustments. If you have installed only the German version, the locale.library must be adjusted like this with the help of the Locale preferences program. Furthermore you must install the Amigaguide.library. ° The Online Help works only in English. Why? Using OS2.0 requires copying the guide from "docs/deutsch" to "docs/english", if an German documentation is wanted: CD sys:tools/AFind/Docs copy deutsch/afind.guide english/ Otherwise the German documentation is missing. You have disabled it during installation. So install AFind by using the installer again. Defaultly all documentations will be installed. ° Pictures and modules are not shown any longer. But older versions did this. AFind won't find this files, if I enter the correct name. Why? Since version 1.43 AFind is able to reject directories. This is very useful, if you are not interested in finding pictures and mudules each search. ° Open the @{"preferences" link "PREF" 0} and clear the "Avoid Directory" gadget. Afterwards save the preferences. The routine for loading the first bytes of a file and then recognising the data type sometimes fails. Reason for this is the automatically switch off and then switch on of the CD-Rom. It is the same than the original tool on the CD, but here you can use AminetCDs and AminetSets mixed. Afterwards AFind scans for an executable file and starts it. Cancelling the program leads to deleting all files. Install : Like Start. Here is scanned for an InstallerScript and the intalled will be started, if the scanning was successfully. Cancel : Closes the window. Actions won't be executed any longer. @{b}Problems:@{ub} So programs are not executable directly after extracting. AFind tries to minimise these problems by connecting all necessary directories with an assign to the system. But an installation must often be done, because otherwise the program doesn't run. Furthermore AFind may find more than one executable file. The installation may be a problem as well, because an file can't be recognised as installer script 100%. Destination Directory : Here you can choose the directory AFinds extracts the archive to. Extract : The archive will be extracted. Where is given by the destination directory. View : The archive is extracted into the temp directory and shows all pictures. If there are a lot of pictures in one archive, AFind asks for showing another picture. After cancelling the program all files will be deleted. Please pay attention to completely given paths. So all viewer/player must be within the path (C-Directory etc.), or the complete path must be adjusted. AminetCD-Find searches without paths on its own CD. AFind can't do this and needs correct adjustments. AFind includes the needed file names automatically. So you won't need [] or similar things. @{b}Some programs need an additional key word to identify the fie name: Some examples: "Pfad/DeliTracker2 Module" "Pfad/Multiplayer NoDetach Play" So read the manual of each tool carefully.@{ub} Avoid Directory ----------------- This gadget is a list of directories AFind needn't search in. "mods/,pix/" is given here defaultly, because these directories needn't be searched for in most cases. You must pay attention to the following things: ° Specifications are not limited. ° Don't use any spaces. ° Specifications must be seperated by a comma. ° Specifications are case insensitive. Examples: Mods/ All mods directories won't be found. For example "mods/misc". Pix/illu Only the directory "Pix/Illu" won't be searched for. comm/am Only "comm/ambos" and "comm/amiex" won't be found. @endnode @node "Pattern" "Pattern Entry" @toc "AFind" @{b}The Pattern Entry@{ub} ------------------- AFind has got three possibilities to enter patterns. 1. direct in CLI/Shell ------------------------ AFind searching pattern AFind starts @{"Index Searching" link "Search" 0} for the "searching pattern" immediately. 2. indirectly by using the shell ---------------------------------- AFind AFind opens a requester concerning the searching pattern. 3. indirectly by using the workbench -------------------------------------- With a double click onto the icon a requester to enter a search pattern opens. Important advice concerning the search pattern: There is a difference by using Dos pattern match or not. The simple search without ~,#,?,() is faster and because of this better than using pattern match. Example: AFind HP_Control AFind searches only for the complete string "HP_Control" and needs on a 68000er only a few seconds (8CDs). AFind #?HP#?Control#? Searching for this takes on a 68000 some minutes, because a variety of possibilities must be checked. Here the following examples will be found (a small choice): HP_Control HP4L_Control HPControl dsHPControl dsHP_dfControlwe Important: If you search by using pattern matching, there should be #? before and behind the pattern. So all signs of the lines before and behind the searched for pattern are not important. "#?HP_Control#?" is not needed, because the search without pattern match is faster. So enter only "HP_Control". @endnode @node "Search" "Searching with Aminet Index" @toc "AFind" @{b}Searching with Aminet Index@{ub} ----------------------------- While searching the time is given in a beam, that grows according to searching the index file. Each grew is equal to 128KB, AFind has searched. If there are problems concerning the memory, AFind reduces the cache size automatically. With ESC or the close gadget the search will be cancelled. All modifications cause a change in the index. All changes in this window and in the @{"preference" link "AI_Pref" 0} window are saved automaticaly if you exit the programm. This is done by closing this window. Index list ------------ This list contains all CDs you own. If you add one this CD will be added to the database by using the "update index" button. If you remove an entry this entry will be deleted in a same manner. New ----- This button will open the @{"indexID-input" link "AI_GeSt" 0} window. Here you specifiy the CD-ID you wanna add. NOTE: Every AminetSet-CD need its own entry. Example: You want to add AminetCD 4. This will be done by pressing the "New"-button. A window opens and you press the "4" and "return" key. That's all. Easy isn't it! Delete -------- This gadget is used to delete the selected entry. Preferences ------------- After pressing this button the @{"Preferences" link "AI_Pref" 0}-Requester appears. Update index -------------- After selecting this button AddIndex will add and remove index lines like specified in index list. @{b}The following gadgets are only available if AddIndex is working in expertmode.@{ub} Source file ------------- This gadget allows to specify your own index source files. This is only necessary if your index files are stored on hard disk or you want to use special modified ones. Mode ------ This cycle-gadget is used to specify the index kind. Overwrite ----------- Normally AddIndex is recognizing that a CD is already defined. Using this switch allows you to force an overwrite. IDs are case insensitive. "AminetCD_x" : x is the CD number. For example "1" or "13" "x" : The same like above. AddIndex converts your entry to "AminetCD_x". "AminetSET_xy" : x is the SET number. y represents the charakter code of each SET-CD. "sxy" : Like above. AddIndex will convert this to "AminetSET_xy" Ok ---- Use this gadget to confirm changes. Cancel -------- This gadget works like closing the window. The entered ID is lost. @endnode @node "AI_Pref" "AddIndex - Preferences" @toc "AI_Windows" @{b}AddIndex - Preferences@{ub} ------------------------ Here you can specify the global settings for AddIndex. Destination file ------------------ This specifies the index file for creations or modifications by AddIndex. Normally "AminetIndex" is used as destination, because AFind is using this as default, too. Avoid dir. ------------ Use this Gadget to choose all directories you are not interested in. AddIndex will skip these directories, so they don't appear in the destination index. Side-effects of this feature are the increasing search speed and the smaller index. AFind itself is able to skip directories by using the @{"AFind-Prefs" link "PREF" 0} option even if the directories are in the index. You should take a look at the AFind feature. Take care of the following things: ° Specify as many dirs as needed. ° Spaces are not allowed. ° Seperate your specifications by comma only. ° All specifications are case insensitive. Examples: Mods/ All Mods-directories will be removed. E.G "mods/misc", "mods/pop" Pix/illu Only the directory "Pix/Illu" won't be added to the aminetindex. comm/am Only "comm/ambos" and "comm/amiex" directories won't be found. Remove dupes -------------- If you activate this option, AddIndex is replacing the old files by the newer ones. Replacing is only possible, if the filenames and the directories are equal to each other. Expert mode ------------- This Gadget activates the expert mode. In this mode the main window is showing special gadgets. @{b}Note: All specifications done to the special gadgets are valid even if AddIndex works in user mode.@{ub} Ok ---- This button confirms all changes and closes the window. First there is the "time to go" followed by a information line. This line displays the actual working mode. The time bar below represents the time for this mode. The other gadgets are displaying some more line specific information. Abort ------- ESC, the window close gadget and this button may be used to abort the update procedure.
