The unregistered AmiComSys has this disadvantages: * You cannot hide your IP-address/hostname. * You can't see in the client list if a client is away or busy. * You cannot ignore certain user's messages sent to you with the Ignore List, but you could use the less efficient ignore-list in the Network settings instead. All you have to do is enter their realname and/or nick name. They will then banned from your host, and can't send messages to you. If not, people can't connect to you via PChat or SendFile. If you don't know what a firewall is you'd better leave this unchecked, but if you notice that poeple can't connect to you via PChat or SendFile you could test to check this. @{b}Hide my IP-address/hostname@{ub} Check this if you don't want other people to see your ip-address or host name via AmiComSys. @{b}MessAccess@{ub} With this you can enable or disable messages from specified host with an ordinal Amiga wildcard pattern. With this wildcard you describe the authorized hosts which are allowed to send you a message. Default is #?, which means that anybody may send you a message. (e.g #?.se, means that only Swedish host may send you messages.) (#?.se|#?.com|#?.edu) gives message access to host with .se, .com or .edu domains. {HI "If you found that people can't send messages to you. Use this item to chat with multiple clients! If a photo of the remote user is available a button will appear at the bottom. Press it to download the photo. Save it the Pictures directory of the AmiComSys home directory or where you have set in the Misc-settings-Picture directory. One window can be connected to a @{b}unlimited number of clients@{ub}. You will act as a server for the clients you have connected. All you say will be sent to all the others, which you are connected to in that window. What all the clients which you you have connected say will be sent to all the others which you have connected. So if you close the window the others which you have connected will also lose the "connection" to each other. With this feature it is possible to talk to all your buddies at the same time. But if the ones you have connected wants to keep talking to eachother when you must break your connection, they must connect to each other. Do this with the "Invite selected client" menu item. Learn it by testing. It's not so easy for me to describe how it's working in just text. Maybe I should draw a picture. The username display is configurable in the @{"Chat-settings." link "windowsettings"} The chat-textinput-field have some @{"keybindings" link "chatwkeybindnings"). @endnode @node "iconifywin" "Iconify individual windows" @{TI "Iconify individual windows"} Every window has a menu item Iconify Window in it's project menu. The shortcut is 'Right Amiga i'. By picking this menu item you may iconify just that window which is activated. You can also click the MUI-iconify-button in the upper right corner of the MUI-window-frame (if you have decided to show that button in the MUI-prefs). By choosing Iconify application in the menu or some MUI-frame-menu in you can iconify the whole application. The MUI-iconify-button iconize only the individual window. If you iconify the main window or the whole application it can be deiconified by: * pressing the hotkey. (default Left Shift -Left Alt- A) * clicking the icon on the workbench. (If show icon is on) * choosing the menu item in the Workbench tools menu. (if show menu is on) NOTE: Don't set the HotKey setting in the MUI-prefs. To set the the HotKey for AmiComSys, open the ToolTypes and set CX_POPKEY. For example if you write am and then press the TAB key, AmiComSys will search through the clientlist till it founds a username which is matching. If amigafan has joined the Hotline, am will be expanded to amigafan:. If the search word is ambigous press TAB again and the next client in the list that match the search string will be inserted. @{b}:@{ub} If you press ':' in the beginning of the line the last used nickname will be inserted into the textfield. @{b}Cursor up & cursor down@{ub} Will browse through the chat text list. Text will be inserted into the textfield. @endnode @node "friendsbook" "Friendsbook" @{TI "Friendsbook"} You open the Friendsbook by selecting the Windows-Friendsbook-menuitem. In it you may insert buddies': name username email comments Pagoo ID ICQ UIN The path to a photo of the friend (locally on your computer). With the 'New' and 'Remove' buttons you may insert a new one respective remove the selected entry. If you use the Add-button in the main window you may insert the selected client into your friendsbook. The email of the client will not be showed if the user have not decided to make it public. It's then hidden. If you try to insert a email in the email-textfield it will be compared against the one got from the server, and if the are the same it will be inserted into the list. If they are not a confirmation dialog will open. The email address will be hidden if the user has decided to make it not public. An answerbox will be activated. It will send out a message to people trying to connect to you. And received messages will be saved to the Message History (in Window menu). Messages received while away will be highlighted. Number of waiting messages will be showed in the information box at the upper part of the main window. @{b}Busy:@{ub} You are busy and don't want to be disturbed. Nobody can connect to you with AmiComSys. @{b}Invisible:@{ub} You will be invisible to all other connected. You will see others connected but they will not see you. The last two do only work if you're a registered user. @endnode @node "infobar" "Info box" @{TI "The info box"} In the information box in upper part of the main window, various information will be showed. No text in it is hardcoded into the program. There's a cache for it named .lastinfoupdate, and may be found in the AmiComSys home directory. @endnode @node "messagereq" "Message requester" @{TI "Message requester"} AmiComSys uses its own message requester. It does not block other traffic, like the usual AmigaOS one. It is always centered. The buttons have these shortcuts: The right button: ESCape or the underlined character. The left button: The underlined character. The RETURN key will press the selected button. (select with the TAB-key). With the TAB-key you may cycle through the alternatives. It doesn't steal the current focus while you are using the keyboard. (costumizable in the Window-settings. You don't have to close a requester before you can get or send another message. The message text requesters also has this: A message field and a send button. You can use these to reply, without opening the main window. The requester will not close when you press the Send-button or Enter in the message-field. This requester could also include other features later. AmiComSys will use MUI-windows for this in a future version, but this GadTools version will probably be optional. You can configure the requester at @{"Windows settings" link "windowsettings"} @endnode @node "ignorelist" "Ignore List" @{TI "Ignore List"} The ignore list you find by picking the settings/ignore users menu item. With it you can automatically ignore certain people that harass you. There are @{b}one list@{ub} in the window. It shows the curren entries in the Ignore List. By selecting an entry the checkboxes at the right of the list will show what what is ignored. With the button, @{b}"Add selected client"@{ub}, you add a client to the list. That client will then be deleted from the Client List. The button, @{b}"Remove"@{ub}, removes the selected entry in the Ignore List. With the three checkboxes, named "HotLine", "ClientList" and "Msg, PChat & SendFile, you may specify what is to be ignored for every entry individually. @{b}HotLine@{ub} - By checking this you won't see any entry in the HotLine from the added client. You won't notice if it changes the Topic either. @{b}ClientList@{ub} - By checking this you prevent the client to show its existance in your Client List. @{b}Msg, PChat & SendFile@{ub} - By checking this you prevent the added client to send you messages and connect to you via PChat and SendFile. The added client can't even get your System-info and Version-info! . Unregistered users could use the 'Bann-list (ignore these)' found in the Network settings instead. But with this the message is actually sent to your machine but filtered out. With the feature above it's stopped at the server, so nothing is sent to you! Finally the @{b}Update@{ub} button, which uploads the current settings to the server. @endnode @node "rules" "The rules" @{TI "The rules"} Here is the current rules of AmiComSys: (last updated 980708) These rules everybody is supposed to follow while using messaging and the HotLine, either it be private or public: I support free speech, but these rules apply: §1) NO text that could be offensive or insulting for anybody should be posted to the HotLine's Topic or Say field. §2) NOONE is allowed to post text which is just garbage in the HotLine, or send a MultiMessage or a Private message with such garbage. Except from taking up unnecessary bandwith it also creates anger by the receiving part. §3) In your comment you may write whatever you find informative or funny, but remember that this is not a place where you are supposed to accuse people for anything. Such comments easily create a bad atmosphere, and anger, IMHO. §4) NOONE owns the Topic field. If someone modifies your Topic, show him/she some consideration, and do not change it back to what suits you, right away. §5) Do NOT use a rude speech. §6) Do NOT slander eachother. §7) Do NOT use your comment to spread rumours about AmiComSys! §8) Do NOT talk about pirate software in the HotLine, or by Multi-Messages, except from how to combat it. Remember: If you start talking about religion, you are responsible for what happen. Do NOT mail me about infringements of the rules above then! The one who has joined the game must take the consequences! If anyone use AmiComSys to find IP-addresses to nuke or flood, do not write to me to tell me that, write to the Internet operator of the host which is flooding you! By registering AmiComSys you may hide your IP-address. And remember there are NO "back-doors" in AmiComSys, that any unnamed piracy group could use to steal your files. The only thing they can use AmiComSys for is to find out your IP-address and trying to connect to some of your ports. Maybe if you are running one of their programs, that program could be listening on a port that they could connect to on your host and stealing your files. Another security risc is if your are running a FTP-server at port 21, with an unsecure password, or a Samba-server at port 139. I recommend you to use Miami's IP-filter to block access to certain ports, and use the 'netstat' command to found out which connections that are established. This rules should make sure that nobody would feel insulted while they are online, and have AmiComSys running. Insulting could also create a bad atmosphere that could make people leave AmiComSys, and that is NOT a thing I want to happen! Users that not follow these rules may be kicked out from AmiComSys or being disallowed connection to the server. For your information I also want to tell you that the HotLine is a place that anybody can see, and that is logged by the server. If you want to say something private you are encouraged to use PChat or Messaging instead of HotLine. If you feel that someone is insulting you or sending you unwanted messages I advice you to insert that person's login name and/or RealName into your Ignore-list, which you find in the NetWork-security-settings. How come? AmiComSys detects keypresses. So it knows when you are using the keyboard. If it has detected a keypress within one second before the requester is to open, it will open in the upper left instead of centered. This prevents it from being opened in front of the text you are working with. You usually aren't typing in the upper left, are you? At the same time it also opened unactivated to prevent it from stealing the current focus. See below. @{b}How do I create my own chat room, with only people I have invited?@{ub} Press the PChat button while one of them you want to chat with is selected in the client list. Then when you are connected you can pick the menu item 'invite selected client' in the Action menu of the PChat window. That client will then be added to your PChat window. Read more about this @{"here" link "pchat"}. @{b}Sometimes the message requesters stoles the current focus. So when I think I am typing text in one text field I'm actually not. And if I press Return the message requester is accidently closed. What to do?@{ub} AmiComSys has a feature which try to avoid these situations. I listens on your key-presses. If you haven't pressed a key for one second AmiComSys thinks it's safe to pop up an active window, but for some people that time is to small. You can increase it in the Windows-settings - Message Requester tab - Activate Delay. Test with increasing it with one second steps and see if that is enough. @{b}Will AmiComSys be able to connect to ICQ in the future?@{ub} This is a very difficult question. Currently it is not possible to do an Amiga version of ICQ legally. Therefore I won't implement ICQ into AmiComSys, even though it would be nice! What will happen in the future I can't tell. Maybe Mirabilis, or the new owners, release the ICQ protocol, and then I will of course add it to AmiComSys. @{b}How can friends not using an Amiga contact me when I'm online. This is still the case, but now no Enforcer hits are thrown when the list is saved to disc. But why would anybody wanting to do that? @{TI "1.19f (22.07.1998)"} BUGFIX: Couldn't connect to people that had hidden their IP-address, via PChat and SendFile :( When you changed the hide-ip option from ON to OFF the clients didn't notice it. Read Contact author in guide for more info. @{TI "1.19e (19.07.1998)"} BUGFIX: Corrupted memory list detected in free mem-GURUs could be shown, meaning there was a LibFreePooled() with the wrong size in the source code. Some buttons in the AmiComSysMUI.guide (rules and ignore-list) were not working. Garbage could be shown in the info-box in the upper part of main window, the first time you were using AmiComSys. (especially under kick 2.0) Topic changed-notes should not be inserted into the HotLine when the user hasn't joined the HotLine. @{TI "1.19d (16.07.1998)"} BUGFIX: If AmiComSys made your system instable from version 1.19 I hope it's fixed now. I found one possible cause, but can't be sure if that was the real cause ... That problem could easily be fixed by removing the .friendsbook file, though. TAB should not insert ">>>" and "" in a ChatWindow (HotLine and PChat). Fixed some other bugs in the TAB-completion-mechanism. Hope it fixes the crashes some users have encountered. Now also works with Textinput.mcc again ... Fixed some bugs in the ':'-completion of a Chat-Window. Does no longer insert a space after ':' when you have never addressed a chat line to anybody. The HotLine's TAB-expansion and ':'-last nick inserter was very incompatible to Textinput.mcc, because Textinput.mcc obviously has dropped support for further string.mui tags :( It also returns strange values when string.mui-tags are used, which probably caused AmiComSys to crash for some users. The messages in HotLine was not properly removed from the history you can cycle through with the cursor up and down keys. Sometimes when you entered the HotLine you could see the chat lines you have entered coming back to you. I haven't been able to reproduce this, but I suspect that it happened when you had the HotLine open while connecting to the server. There was a race-condition then. Bug reported by Frederik Thiesen and Alex Tucker. Thanks! Fixed some security features, which I can't tell you about. Fixed some layout errors in the Settings window. Removed the CPS from the SendFile windows. The old copy of the client data on the server was not removed immediately when the same client connected again, but this time with another IP-address. Happen when your host crashed and you have to call up your Internet provider again. NEW: Only users who have joined the HotLine will be possible to get with TAB-completion. Managed to tweak the CPU-usage while in sleeping state back to 0.0%, and reduced the CPU-usage while the program is used, by stop using MUI's timer. Added a window with the current rules of AmiComSys. Window menu-The Rules. When someone modifies the Topic in Hotline a message is inserted into the list. The SendEmail.amicomsys script was updated. It now works with both YAM 1.3.x and YAM2.0p5. The text is now also inserted into the mail editor. It's no longer possible to send messages to clients you have on your ignore-list. Added "Super-Ignore". You can ignore clients in the ClientList, HotLine and messaging by adding an entry to The AmiComSys Ignore List found in the Settings menu ->"Ignore users". By activating all options you may remove a certain client entirely from AmiComSys. Only registered users may ignore client messaging via the Ignore-List in the Ignore-list-window, but the less efficient one in the Network-settings still works. When Message ignore is activated the ignored client can't even get your Version-info or System-Info! @{TI "1.19c (23.06.1998)"} NEW: Changed the internal addressing scheme to make AmiComSys more efficient on the server side and by the same time added support for several users connecting from the same fire wall. This could lead to incompatibility problems with older versions of AmiComSys. So please update your copy of AmiComSys now! BUGFIX: Memory leakage in Pagoo-checking The information line in the upper part of the main window wasn't updating anymore. It should now be possible to send normally long URLs, beginning with http://, with WEB-messages. An Enforcer hit was thrown when the "Send" gadget was pressed in the Message Requesters. Bug in the word length counter which forced you to use words with a length less than 50 characters. Now 65 i maximum length. @{TI "1.19b (17.06.1998)"} BUGFIX: HotList online/offline status was not updated after a reconnect. Reported by Rolf Bollmann. Thanks! The TAB-completion weren't working as intended. The ICQ # were not saved. MUI-codes were saved in the Chat-window's save function, that was not intended. User enterned and user left is also not saved anymore. Thanks Frederik Thiesen for reporting this! @{TI "1.19 (06.06.1998)"} NEW: Now you are able to connect to clients behind a firewall with PChat and SendFile fully transparently, if you are not behind a firewall yourself. Set the setting "I'm behind a firewall" in the network settings if your are behind a firewall or have very restricted access in Miami-IP-filter (if port 1024-32767 is rejected). AmiComSys now can check your Pagoo message box at regular intervals, so you don't have to waste your time looking at your online center manually. Look at http://www.pagoo.com for more info about Pagoo. When a new message arrives a message will pop up after a while (depends on your settings) asking you to visit your Online Pagoo Message Box. Pagoo already provide you with the service to send you an email asking you to visit your Message Box online. If you want you can switch that service off and use AmiComSys instead, but it is you choice. Personally I like this better, I don't want my in-box in YAM filled with Pagoo-notifications. I'm too lazy to delete them :) You can set the position of the iconify-icon of the mainwindow in the Iconification-settings at the Program-settings-page. Suggested by Asha. Thanks! Add a link to a photo of yourself in the Personal-settings-System tab, so the one your are chatting with, via PChat, may download the photo and having it inserted into the PChat window. Friendsbook relayouted. One can see if a client is away or busy by looking into the client info window, but now registered users can see it directly in the list. The letter # or * at the beginning of each client in the list will change to a '&' for away status and a '%' for busy status. Thanks to Alex Tucker for the suggestion! The message history is now automatically saved when the connection to the server is lost, instead of when the program quit. If found out that if you have AmiComSys in SYS:WBStartup you never quit it! AutoSave must still be set to on in the Windows-settings - Message History tab. This is disabled in the unregistered version of AmiComSys. The message you enter in the Hotline will be inserted into the list directly, without first waiting for it to come back from server. It think this is better and I think most of the IRC clients for Amiga are using this technique. Messages which is for you is now highlighted in the HotLine. If you are using Tab-completion in the HotLine and seek word entered is ambigous the first entry in the client list will be inserted. If this is not the right one, just press Tab again and the next entry in the list will be inserted! The Tab-completion is now case-independent. Last two are suggested by Frederik Thiesen. Thanks! It's now possible to hide your IP-address/host name from the client-list. Settable in the security settings at the network-settings-page. This is only working for registered users. If you have an ICQ # you can insert it into the Pagoo/ICQ settings. Then people can see you ICQ# in the client-list, and it will also link to your personal ICQ Message center. You can now enter a second home page in the personal settings. Choose between a ftp-site or a second homepage. Added settings "Enable Message Center" at the network-security settings page. Default is checked, i.e, enabled. If you disable it people can't send you messages from the AmiComSys Message Center at the AmiComSys home page. Last two suggested by David Hamilton. Thanks! Resaved it with another program Connection refused was showed in pchat when one of the people connected broke the connection (only in multi-PChat (Invite selected client)). Only the registered version of AmiComSys received messages sent from the AmiComSys-server, i.e. messages sent from the Message-Center and other important messages from the author (the permissions weren't set right) :( Only the first user in the ignore list was actually ignored, the rest was ignored by AmiComSys :( If going from offline status to invisible status, info about the client was sent. Therefore it was showed in the list for a while in the list before it was deleted. Bug reported by David Hamilton. Thanks! AmiComSys freezed if the message requester failed to open due to unsufficient memory. @{TI "1.18d (09.05.1998)"} BUGFIX: The settings were not saved correctly, which lead to clients having the wrong information at wrong places in the client list. I appologize for the inconvenience if your settings file "amicomsys.config" is totally corrupted. This bug first appeared in version 1.18b. Bug reported by Alex Tucker. Thanks! The PChat was not working at all :( @{TI "1.18c (06.05.1998)"} BUGFIX: AmiComSys crashed, with guru #8100 005? or something else, when a connection with PChat was refused by the host. Should only happen if the one one tries to connect to is behind a firewall. Now a "Connection refused" message shows up. In the future version, 1.19, it will be possible to connect with PChat and SendFile to hosts behind a firewall. The icon now has a transparant background colour. @{TI "1.18b (29.04.1998)"} NEW: Does no longer use TCP device. Made real network code instead, which now makes it work with Termite TCP without problems. Some problems with hanging TCP-device-tasks should now also have disappeared. BUGFIX: Another corrupted memory list error (guru #8100 0005) when using TAB-completion in PChat and Hotline. Bug reported by Kenneth Craig. Thanks! If Gurus in PChat reported by others also disappeared after this fix is unknown, cause I could never reproduce them. @{TI "1.18a (21.04.1998)"} BUGFIX: If you used Textinput.mcc as string gadget there was actually a limit of about 46 characters in the PChat and HotLine. That limit is now removed. Kickstart v37 users now use string.mui A couple of freemem with the wrong length (guru #80000005). Thanks to all who reported this bug! (wonder why it never happened on my Amiga ...) Removed a null pointer access when noone was selected in the client list and you tried to send a message or requesting version info. Fixed incompatibility with A4000. Thanks to Håkan Magnusson and Steven Lyon for helping me finding the cause. The AmiComSysRegister and AmiComSysMakekey liked to crash your amiga (stack overflow) :( Fixed 68000 incompatibility in PChat and HotLine. You can now chat with people with this kind of processor without causing his/her computer to crash. The Betterstring.mcc now works with 68000 CPU. Workaround so PChat and Hotline will work without any crashes on 68000, whether of not the one your are chatting with are using AmiComSys 1.18a or lower. Bug reported by Mike Constantine. Thanks! Kickstart v37 owners should use NList.mcc version 19.86+ (1998-04-13) Replaced the kick 37-replacement of the poolmem-functions, because it was broken somehow (led to crashes at exit). NEW: To make it possible to use MUI-windows for the message requesters in future you have to set the MUI-iconification at startup to off. AmiComSys has it's own iconification-facility at the program settings page, the program tab - Iconification group. "No GUI at startup" is the same as MUI-prefs system-settings - Iconify at start up. You can also decide if an icon should appear on the Workbench and/or an AppMenu should be added to the Workbench tools menu when AmiComSys is in iconified state. See @{"Program settings ..." link "programsett"} The MUI-iconify button which can be showed in the upper right corner of each window iconize just the window which you pressed the button in. Then there are a menu item in AmiComSys Project menu - Iconify application: It will use the MUI settings for Iconification and hides the whole application, i.e. all windows. The ToolType CX_POPUP now works again. It also crashed if the server had crashed :( NEW: Added MUIA_String_AdvanceOnCR to all the string gadgets, so return now behaves like TAB. If you forget to send a text you have entered into the text field in the message requester AmiComSys will notify you. Removed limit of message length in HotLine and Private Chat (PChat). (If you are using Newstring.mcc as textfield gadget there is a limit of 500 characters.) Added smart activate, which means that the message requesters don't steal the current focus while you are using the keyboard. Thanks! Empty messages are not sent anymore. Changed string-class settings, so you have to set it again. Betterstring.mcc is now default for the 68020+/WB3.0+ version. If the default public screen is to small for the message requester a new screen will open. The message requester handles new lines in a better way. It is now also able to show text in bold, italic and underlined style. Also added justification (left, right and center). Notice that you currently cannot send such a message ... You can now choose if the email entered into the settings should be showed to the public, in the personal settings (Public). Added a banned user setting on the network-settings-page, due to popular demand.
