b3tRevision of TrailwaytRokDaZonetfpf2s2c08 REVISION OF TRAILWAY c10 by RokDaZone f2Group : f1Capsule f2Release : f1Euskal 1997 (1st place) f2Description:f1Multiload demo; 4.4 MB f2Requires : f168020 (minimum), 68030/50 (standard) f2Coding/Optimizing: f1Kustom f2Graphics : f1.Judas & Zaac f2Music : f1Pink f2c08 OVERALL f1c09When thinking of recent c10Capsule c09demos being uploaded on the c10AmiNetc09, one gets the fatal impression that downloading the releases from the Spanish based group around c10Eystrak c09might be a waste of time. In fact, before the release of Trailway, they concentrated on lowbudget productions which carried no guarantee for standards. Things change, times change - so why shouldn't Capsule releases? Released at the c10Euskal Party 1997 c09in Spain, it certainly has a difficult way to the wider attention of the Amiga Scene, as Spain isn't known as the most influential Scene country, to put it politely. Maybe with this review, c10Trailway c09might make its way into more democollections. f2c08 THE EFFECTS f1c09The demo starts traditional. A Capsule logo by c10Zaac c09scrolls in bottom to top, followed by the names of the people involved. These shrink in big letters on a grey background as negative zoom into the screen and get exchanged by a futuristic fullscreen picture by c10.Judasc09. Disturbing in this intro sequence only that the soundtrack - a spacefunk module by c10Pink c09- doesn't fit what is shown as it playfully crashes into the scene for the beginning without any kind of spheric appeal; like the upsetting would have demanded. Maybe we here see the first traces of the unfinished state of the demo. The first effect is somekind of computerplatine texture running over a centred ball, so that the texture gets deformed and stretched in the middle. The resolution here is low, but the effect itself cores the eye. Additionally, three gouraudshaded vectorcircles start to run over the described background after a flash of the screen. f2A highly fashionable effect f1which only misses shading of the objects on the background. When usually demodesigners let a lightsource scroll behind static logos for a movietrailer impression, c10Kustom c09- who according to our sources short after the release joined c10Abyss c09- lets his letters scroll up to bottom. The background is light grey, while the letters are held in black. The words throw out their negative shades (dark to light) towards the viewer. In the shades themselves, dark particles as individual sources stress the effect even more. Two sets of words saying f4"are you prepared" f1get shown this way. An f2interesting linking effect f1follows but runs too slow to gain more than an uncertain impression at the viewer. Much like the next effect. For a very short amount of time - and I mean very short - a star object comes into sight. It seems to be environmental mapped and gets mirrored in a "fuzzy" way, but more information can not be given as the whole thing remains on screen for less than five seconds. A f2timing f1mistake? The following face-out-of-a-box effect which we all know from c10"The Gate" c09by c10Artwork c09stays longer on screen. Quite long to be exact. It runs in a standard resolution and uses environment mapping. For some seconds it also seems like it uses bump mapping like in c10"Megademo IV"c09, but this is just a vague impression. The effect runs on a grey background including a static c10Trailwayc09-logo. Vectorworlds have become an often seen part of 1997 demos after the success of c10Bomb's The Party VI c09winning demo by c10Benc09, who used the first c10Lightwave c09scene converter on Amiga ever. The vectorworld shown in c10Trailway c09afterwards looks a little like a clone in design and as it is only shown for a short time before disappearing, one can say with a good consciousnes that it also is generated using Lightwave. Why not? Another futuristic fullscreen by .Judas is followed by a second vectorworld including a Capsule logo in much the same deign as the first one. Also this one is shown only for a short time. The end lowers the overall well impression of the demo. A fullscreen picture by Zaac of an aggressivly looking nude girl in front of a Union Jack is shown for a short time and then it all goes away. The music - which restarted just short before - cuts in the mid of the pattern and the c10Workbench screen c09grins at the surprised viewer. Unfinished they said? Now we know what they mean: The demo has no end. f2c08 COMMENT f1c09Who expects brilliant programming from a demo might be disappointed after watching Trailway. The code seems to be of standard quality and even the most easy to impress watcher gets in troubles when being asked to find innovation. Trailway, however, is a good demo for the way the show is composed. The effects are displayed is nicely, the composition of the main palette is suiting and consequently used - although it is not very original. The music doesn't entirely fit the layout, but is refreshing to listen to after all the industrial stuff in 1996 and 1997. Intro and outro should have been worked much more but all in all Trailway is a production that features all common requests for a demo in 1997. f3c10caaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaf b f2c09Programming : f1OOOOOO==== f3c10b b f2c09GFX & Design : f1OOOOOOO=== f3c10b b f2c09Music & Sound: f1OOOOO===== f3c10b b f2c09Originality : f1OOOOOO==== f3c10b b b b f2c09Impression : f1OOOOOOO=== f3c10b daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaae
