The glass filled with a well tempered Chateau Branaire 1992, as red and thick as the blood it mixes up within my veins. The easy chair wide and convenient, I find myself in a splendid mood to report about c11Damion/Artworkc13. Or better: About a friend. c12 "... AND WHO ARE YOU?" c13The first time we met was at the Treacle Party in late October 1991. Me an inexperienced clumsy 18 year-old, visiting his first party ever, him a massive 16 year-old with the appearance of a professional. Both had we buttons sticked to our chests. Mine saying f4"RokDaZone/Gloom writing for Freedom Crack"f1, his f4"Damion/End Of Century writing for Hack Mag"f1. I was about to make my first real contacts in the Scene, he already fought his first war with the people from Awake. I kept the remembrance of an overweight Marlboro smoking big-mouth. Early 1993, I received a letter from Damion/Platin, who introduced his newborn group to me and invited me to become musician for his team. He also told me something about the new design for his messagebox called c11"Generation" c13and sent some first menugraphics. Ironically, I had not heard anything about it before and so I really didn't care at all. I refused then, being involved with c11Stolen Data c13still. Damion kept on struggling and Generation was released again and again. Soon I got the twelfth issue and wondered how someone could put all that energy in such a lowrated release. Forced a break of almost one year due a severe illness, I met Damion again at c11The Party IV c13directly after recovery, already planning his latest steps. c12 HISTORICAL INTERLUDE ENDS c13Let me concentrate more on Damion himself. To judge about his writing abilities compare the editorials of earlier issue of Generation. Well. Let's be polite and say that there have been more talented writers on earth. His language grasp isn't so impressing, his narrative abilities equal to nill and ability to abstract isn't that high either. What is it then that made him able to release 19 issues without help and further six issues in a team he formed himself? First of all: Damion is a manager by heart. Not only that he learned to sell while his apprenticeship to become industrial salesman, he also has this instinct and appearance a successful business manager needs to call his own. If he aims in a target, the more or less poor victim will face a cascade of calls, begs, forciated requests and demands and most people finally give in for his still friendly habit. c11Jens-Oliver Klokkers c13- so his real name - could sell you a broken washing-machine and you still would keep your trust in him. Secondly his will to share. Damion is not into Spandimerda. When he takes, he always gives something back and his loyalty is impressive. To deal with him is enjoyable and this is finally what is essential for a main-editor: Connectivity and compatibility with the reader and the sources of information. Generation, although often regarded at as my monopoly, is democratic to the bone and all decisions are confirmed by at least two people, mostly by three. c12 THE EDITOR WITHIN c13Damion - as said before - is not a writer, but he is by far more than the socalled "editingslave". Without him, many articles in Generation issues 20 to 25 wouldn't have been written since it was him to gather the information that I needed to form articles. It is the most convenient way possible for an editor to tell someone about the ideas for an article and then just wait for the information needed. Luckily I am in that position. Seen from this angle, Damion and me become one. This might also be the reason why Damion once gave this interesting statement that he is not allowed to publish articles in his own magazine. But is this something remarkable? Could the writer himself collected the information well on himself? Not exactly. It is the penetrative stubborness paired with his good connections that enable him to get the cling that is needed to actually find what is important. Needless to say that Damion also collects huge parts of all votes. That he does the charts. That he edits the messagebox. That he hosts the Phonebook. That he chooses titlepictures and modules. That he assembles the mag. That he is c11Mr. Generationc13. Damion lately has entered the editorcharts without having written an article for ages. Now come up with mistrust and say that it is not fair. You would be wrong. To be an editor means more than just to type. Nowadays I fear that we both might loose our hang to Scene a little, both being busy with work and studies plus the needless nobilities of this extravaganza called normal life. What might be the future for Generation? I would not even dare to tell, but I am completely sure that even without us being active, c11friends remain friendsc13.
