Not an easy assignment. Not at all. An effort I would rather not make. But out of respect for c10Damionc09, Mister organizing himself, and c10Generationc09, I will try to make the effort anyway. What is there to say? I am expected to bring my personal view but my view is not that broad. Considering the fact that I (Sane) tried to enter the diskmag Scene already in the early 1991 (I am "following" the Scene since 1990 and joined my first group in that same year.) and being where I am nowadays, anno domini 1997, one could not say I was extremely successfull. I could claim that is the sad result of various causes I could not manipulate but in the end the conclusion would still be that I am maybe not the most suited person to write an essay telling my personal view about the past five years of the diskmag Scene in an attempt to honour one of the greatest organizers of diskmags; c10Damionc09. Enough excuses! Although being not the most suited person I will do it anyway. That is who I am and that was who I always was. Also in all those last 5 years; rebellious, caring about almost nothing. Five years ago I was, as said earlier, already trying hard to make it into the Diskmag Scene. The mistake I made was wanting to have a magazine of my own, being the maineditor behind it. Wanting to have an own magazine was not the mistake; the people with whom I wanted to reach it were the mistakes. Lazy. Uninspired. My biggest fault was that I didn't try to make it into the staff of a nice magazine in that period. Would I have tried, I would have succeeded. I am sure. Instead of that I wrote articles for various magazines. I wrote for c10Magboxc09, c10Eternalc09, c10Hokus Pokusc09, c10Infantc09, c10Chit Chatc09, c10Megazinc09, c10Showtimec09, c10RAWc09, and many more. But always only one or two articles. Getting more known is something one can forget when practising like that. Although I enjoyed the diskmags immensely in the period 1992-1997 and although I had the feeling I was actually f2in f1that part of the Scene, I don't think I was a real part of it. Not until September 1996. Then I joined the c10Seenpoint c09staff and finally found what I was looking for. When I would have succeeded in producing my own magazine, it would have looked very much like c10Seenpointc09. Before that same September I was reading everything which was published. Already before 1992 I was reading magazines and enjoyed legends like c10News On Tourc09, c10Discc09, c10McDiskc09, c10Stolen Data c09and c10Royal Infoc09. When the extremely skilled magazines like c10RAWc09, c10ICE c09and c10Upstream c09entered the battlefield one could say I was the most satisfied. Those were the glory days. Back then I liked diskmags as a whole and didn't care for single writers. From the period 1992-1996 I can only name two writers who I can really remember for their writing skills. Those two are c10CyberSonikc09, the legendary Dutch article machine, and c10RokDaZonec09. Nowadays things changed drastically. Today I like single writers much more as I do magazines as a whole. That is about the only major change I witnessed in the last five years. Strange. Not that much f2really f1happened in five whole years. Of course, magazines collapsed with the most famous examples in the form of c10RAW c09and c10Upstreamc09. And major mags were born (or brought to life again) like c10ROMc09, c10Seenpoint c09and c10Generationc09. Nothing stunning. Dying and being born; the most normal aspects of a vivid Scene. No. Only one thing was what drew my attention, astonished me, in the last five years. That was the major RAW-fuck up by c10Astroc09. That was what really got me. Dazzled me. Struck me. Anyway, considering the fact that I see myself as a diskmag Scener only since September 1996 I can not write much about the past five years and certainly not about c10Damion c09and c10Generation c09in particular.
