Well now, it seems a long time since I last typed in an editors comments
thingy, in fact it seems a VERY long time ago!
I think I've just discovered why the mag is now called Beyond The Frontier.
Could it be that the release dates are well beyond any frontier known
to man? (or Molgrat)

A quick apology to everyone who I owe letters to, for anyone who doesn't
know already, as of 1st December '97 I will not be able to respond to
any letters due to mega heavy work load and general laziness.
Don't fret though, coz I can be contacted via E-mail from the
aforementioned date onwards.

I don't have much to say on the Amiga front this issue, mainly because
I've been getting into the car mods scene lately, hence the tweeks
section for this issue.
Anyway, after months of dedicating every working penny to buying a new
car, I'm back on the ol' computer upgrading street.

I hate to be boring and return to the old PC vs Amiga thing, but I've
just purchased Scala MM200 for the P.C and it's not bad. The load times
and system requirements are enormous, hence the P200MMX processor and
80 Meg RAM. This is my argument for preferring the Amiga to the P.C,
due to the fact that on the Amiga everything flows nicely, no jerkiness
and no silly requirements like on the Piss E.
In saying this though, the Amiga doesn't have anywhere near the power
the PC does now, Only the other day I was running Quake at 42.9 frames
per second in test mode. The Amiga would struggle to churn out 2 or 3 
frames at that resolution.
The P.C's music development software is equally impressive and sampling
a CD at full SPS means you struggle to tell the difference between the
sample and the actual CD playing.
But besides all this, I still don't feel at ease with the P.C, I find 
them irritating to use, Windows is slow and very unstable and the 
fact that I've had to spend £300 on upgrades within 3 months of buying
the machine is laughable. Nah, I'll stick with the Amiga mate!
That is why I've chosen to get the Amiga netted instead of the P.C.
I will stick with my Amiga until there are no Amiga mags produced,
CU Amiga and Amiga Format.
Which brings me briefly onto a pleasing event.
The ABC figures for both mags have become stable after several years
of sharp decreases in sales. Both mags are at about 27,000 readers,
only 2,000 less than 6 months ago. Compare this to a drop of 30,000
readers every 6 months and I'm sure you'll agree that it's pretty
good news.
Magazines close down usually when they reach 18,000 readers or less,
although Future Publishing kept ST Format going at only 10,000 readers!
Good on ya Future!

Let's hope the Amiga lasts another few years, maybe even see the year
2000!
Somehow though, I don't get the feeling that I'll be here using an Amiga
in 3 years time though. Sad news indeed.


Right, I must go now, my P200MMX with 80 Meg RAM and 2.5Gig HD, Diamond Stealth 3000 graphics card with an AWE 64 card and 15" monitor is calling.
