{HEAD} TEXTCOL=$FFF BACKGROUND=03 {/HEAD} DOOM On Da Miggy bY SKiDZ/A51 Time has marched on quite a bit since the last issue of BTF and by now you all know that Doom has hit the Amiga. Many of you will have even rushed out and bought Doom CD's in order to play the full versions of Ultimate Doom and Doom II. And there's the extra CD's too such as The Master Levels for Doom II which has some neat levels (Wads) for Doom II plus around 300 extra wads on the CD too. Some of you who don't have access to a PC may not have tried the Master Levels, seeing as they have been stored in PC format! Well, help is at hand... All you need is the Join command and a copy of LHA. From the CLI/Shell, syply type: Join Master.1 master.2 as Master.lha You will now have the full LHA archive of the wad files containing the Master Levels. Now simply un-lha the file. (LHA x Master.lha) - Or via any un-arc util like DOpus etc. You may get some errors, but it should un-arc fine enough for you to use most, if not all of the extra wads. :) There's also other Doom CD's available too such as D!Zone 150 which contains 150 extra Wads for Doom and Doom II. I'm also sure by the time you read this, many of you will have found plenty of web pages full of wad files. I won't bother listing any here as I've never looked at da web for 'em. I have far too many on CD at present :) I personally use DoomAttack to play Doom on my Amiga. It's fast and works very well, but most people seem to prefer ADoom coz it also has music! There are so many choices and it's up to you to decide which one to use. However, when it comes to playing with your wads, it's a pain to keep resorting to CLI/Shell to load them. eg. ADoom -file Cave.Wad Why not do what i do and set up a script which can load the wad you want from an icon? Simply create a script via Ed like so... ; Change to Doom Dir... ;CD Work:Games/Doom ; ; Add extra buffers for speed up... Addbuffers "" 400 ; ; Set the stack required by your version of Doom... Stack 150000 ; This could be set via the icon too if you like. ; ; Now load your Doom and wad... ADoom -file Cave.wad ; ; Save this to disk as eg. Doom_Cave.game Give the file an icons if it doesn't already have one. Alter the icon's information and give it a default too of C:IconX. Now all you have to do is double click on it to play ADom with your Wad. You could set up as many of these as ya like and shove 'em into your Tools Daemon menu for easy starting :) One point to note, if you quit doom and then load another, please note that the buffers will keep being added to! So you may want to keep the Addbuffers and Stack commands in a seperate Startup. I'll leave that up to you. There's plenty of cheats out there for Doom also, but I bet you all know 'em by now - right? It won't be long before certain companies join in the bandwagon and start selling CD's full of Doom wads. I myself have asked Phil at F1 and Vince at Epic if they fancied releasing some, no reply came from either as I type this! But I know at least one of 'em will get around to it - eventually. (eh Vince :) If any of you have any Doom tips for un-arching wads from other Doom CD's created for PC's, let us Amiga users know. We have the right to play 'em too. Feel free to email me on this subject too: skidz@agasinc.demon.co.uk That's all for this article. We are all Doomed ;þ end.
