GETTING STARTED 1.1 HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS A Commodore Amiga computer with 512K of memory. For Amiga 1000, Amiga KickStart 1.2 or later required. You will also need Amiga Arc and Zoo to utilize the archive options. Two disk drives recommended. 1.2 MAKING A BACKUP Make Backup copies!!! Don't use your orignal!!! To place a copy of Disk Master on your Workbench disk, do the following: 1. Load your Workbench disk at the Workbench propmt. 2. When loading is complete click twice on the Workbench disk icon. 3. Insert Disk Master and click twice on the Disk Master disk icon. 4. After the Disk Master window opens, place pointer over Disk Master icon. 5. While holding down the left mouse button, drag the Disk Master icon into the Workbench window then release. 6. After a few moments Disk Master will be copied onto your Workbench disk. 1.3 RUNNING DISK MASTER To run Disk Master click on the Disk Master icon twice. You will then be greeted with the main Disk Master screen. From CLI type "run diskmaster". 1.4 ELEMENTS OF THE DISK MASTER SCREEN 1. The top left corner of the screen, contains the close gadget. When this is clicked Disk Master will quit. 2. Across the top of the screen is the title bar. When the pointer is over this and the left mouse button is held down, you may slide the screen up and down. Much information is displayed in the title bar. 3. Displayed in the center is the computer's free memory. 4. The left and right portions of the title bar contain volume name and space available on disk. 5. In the top right portion of the screen are two gadgets, screen back and screen front. Clicking on the left gadget will put the Disk Master screen behind the Workbench screen. Hitting the same gadget on the Workbench screen will put the Workbench to the back, showing the Disk Master screen again. 1.5 MENUS Holding down the right mouse button turns on the menu bar. Moving the pointer across the top of the screen, you will see two menus "Project" and "Configure". Moving down these menus and releasing the right mouse button will select the highlighted command. 1.6 GADGETS In the center of the screen are the operation gadgets. Moving the pointer over a gadget and hitting the left mouse button will start an operation. The large vertical bars on the left and right of the gadgets are for moving the files up and down to view large directories. By placing the pointer inside the bars, and holding down the left mouse button you may slide the bars up and down to view files not currently displayed. The horizontal bars at the bottom of the screen are for displaying other information about the files, from left to right: filename, size of file, file creation date and time, file protect bits, and file comment. By placing the pointer inside the bars, and holding down the left mouse button, you may slide the bars left and right to view other information on files not currently displayed. Just below the title bar are the left and right directory paths. Clicking in these and typing in a directory path, then hitting return will load the directory and display it below. To the left of each path is an S or D. S denotes source or "from" disk and D denotes destination or "to" disk. When the "Copy" or "Move" gadgets are selected, files chosen will be copied from the source side to the destination. The other gadgets will affect files on the source side only. To change the S and D, click in the right area of the screen, such as filenames or slide bars and the right side will be the source. Click in the left area of the screen and the left side will be the source. Note: All operations are selected by pressing the left mouse button while the pointer is on an operation gadget. The rest of the screen is used for file display. Clicking on files and directories with the left mouse button will select (highlight) them for an operation. If you decide you don't want a file or directory selected, simply click on it again. If you want all of the files and directories on the source side selected, select the "All" gadget. If you want all of the files and directories on the source side de-selected, select the "Clear" gadget. The amount of files selected and the total of bytes added up will be displayed in the title, to give some idea of how much room you may be deleting, or copying to the other disk. File names are displayed in white, directories are displayed in red above file names. One extra note: While Disk Master is in an operation, clicking on an operation gadget aborts the operation, leaving untouched files selected. This may also happen if Disk Master encounters an error. 2. CONFIGURATION Hold down the right mouse button and move the pointer to the top of the screen. You'll see "Project" and "Configure". 2.1 SETTING SCREEN COLORS Move the pointer to Configure, then slide down to "Set Colors" and release the mouse button. A color palette window will appear. If this option is selected, the files will be displayed in a smaller font. 2.4 SELECTING AUTO DIRECTORY READ Move the pointer to Configure, then slide down to "Auto Dir". These may be clicked on to turn each bit on or off. A "-" denotes the bit is protected. 2.6 SETTING FILE SELECT PATTERN Next is "Set Pattern". This is used in conjunction with the "All" gadget. An " * " means that the "All" gadget will select all files when used. Exaples: Changing this to *.info will cause the "All" gadget to select only files that end with .info. *C* will cause it to select all files with a C in them. C* will cause it to select all files beginning with a C. The "All" button will also work on other information on files. Such as date, time, protection, and comment. Exaple: *Dec 2,1987 7:?? PM* will cause it to select all files created on December 2,1987, between 7:00 PM and 7:59 PM. Notice the two spaces before day and hour becuase they are less than 10. 2.7 SETTING UP ARC AND ZOO The Next three items in the menu are: "Arc xw", "Arc v", and "Zoo xO//". To use Amiga Arc and Zoo with Disk Master place ARC and ZOO in the C: directory of the Workbench disk that you booted with. Because these programs are seperate from Disk Master, you will not have full control over them, so use caution when using them from Disk Master. This can reconfigure the "Run" gadget to use an external command which uses a filename as an argument. For example changing it to "Execute" will cause the gadget to execute a selected batch file using AmigaDOS Execute. 2.9 RENAMING DEVICE GADGETS Next is "Set Device". This is used used to rename a device gadget. The device gadgets are the top six gadgets in the center of the screen. Select "Set Device" from the Configure menu, and select a device gadget. A requester will prompt you for a new name. Enter the new name and hit return. 2.10 SAVING CONFIGURATION After you've changed everything, make sure your Workbench is not write-protected and select "Save Config" in the Configure menu, and all of your new changes and colors will be saved in your Workbench Devs: directory, so the next time you run Disk Master, your configuration will be loaded automatically. 3.
