V2.0: There are thousands of Commodore 64 programs out there and it would be nearly impossible to test all of them. This list contains some programs that we have tested and have found to be bug free. All programs tested on Amiga 1000 with 1M ram and default GO-64! Preference settings. V2.0 WILL NOT RUN This release of GO-64! is not capable of loading TURBO load or FAST load software. Any program that uses this technique for loading will not run properly. WHAT GO-64! WILL RUN GO-64! should run most software that is not use TURBO or FAST load techniques. Even though GO-64! may run a software package, it may run too slow to be of practical use. A WORD ABOUT SPEED There are several ways to optimize GO-64!'s performance: 1) Use 'FAST MEMORY' whenever possible. 'FAST MEMORY' is memory expansion that is as follows: Amiga 1000 with over 512K memory Amiga 500 or 2000 with over 1M memory GO-64! will automaticly load into 'FAST MEMORY' if available. 2) Use SIS BASIC whenever possible. SIS BASIC will dramaticly increase the speed of programs that normally make ROM calls. By default SIS BASIC is switched ON in GO-64! Preferences. It can be turned on and off by the user at any time. SIS BASIC has been thoroughly tested and debugged, but if you find a program that does not work you may want to try running it with SIS BASIC turned off. 3) Use monochrome mode whenever possible. You will find that monochrome mode will be unacceptable for some programs, especially ones that have many colors on the screen at on time. 4) Adjust screen and raster IRQ refresh rates. (See the Instructions file for details) 5) The best performance can be obtained by using a 68020 processor with 32 bit memory. With this system configuration speeds of over 100% are possible. Leaving the 68020 cache on will give even greater performance. Note: On 68020 systems with the cache on, accessing Commodore drives will not work. You can go to Workbench or CLI to toggle the cache on or off before doing disk I/O. (See the Instructions file for details) GO-64! will also run on 68010 systems but there will be only a slight increase in speed. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- OPERATIONAL PERFORMANCE A few words about performance... GO-64! is a software emulator, which means GO-64! is a program which mimics the various hardware integrated circuits in the Commodore 64. GO-64! does not require or contain any Commodore 64 hardware for operation. Though GO-64! was written in pure 68000 assembly language for the fastest execution possible, software in general will be slower than hardware. By changing the Amiga hardware configuration, speeds greater than 100% are possible. The chart below shows the performance comparisons between various Amiga hardware configurations. Changing the Amiga's microprocessor and RAM configuration can make dramatic changes in performance. All tests done with default GO-64! Preference settings: SIS BASIC: ON (Except on 512K RAM minimum configuration systems) Monochrome Mode: OFF Screen Refresh: 60% Raster Refresh: 80% (Raster Refresh does not effect performance unless raster IRQs are running) On A500/A2000 having 1.5 meg or more will make timings closer to A1000's.
