ZIP is far superior than other popular archiving methods, and will no doubt become the new standard in file archiving. The "official" Amiga versions of Phil's PKZIP/UNZIP programs are currently under development. I'm sure many Amiga users, at one time or another, needed to extract files from a ZIP archive. How do you un-ZIP a file on the Amiga? If you have an IBM Bridgeboard or the "Transformer" IBM emulation software, you can use the MS-DOS version of PKUNZIP to extract the files. If you're like me, you probably can't put up with the slowness of the "Transformer", or don't like going through all the trouble it takes just to un-ZIP one file using this method, not to mention that the "Transformer" won't multi-task with other Amiga software. Or, suppose you don't even have a Bridgeboard, or the "Transformer" software? Well, now what do you do? And so, my Amiga UnZip program was born! UnZip will allow you to list, test, view, print, or extract the contents of .ZIP files. --------------------------------------------------------------- FREEWARE NOTICE The "UnZip" program contained in this archive is copyrighted software. Re-use this file in other archives you create so they are also protected during file transfers. *PLEASE* don't remove ANY of these files from the archive if you intend to redistribute it to other BBS's. I have spent a lot of time creating these files, and I would like them to be kept together in the *original* archive that I originally distributed! Thanks! --------------------------------------------------------------- NEW FEATURES FROM PREVIOUS VERSION I didn't plan on releasing any new versions of my UnZip and ZipView programs, but I got bored one day and just sat down and started programming. :-) -- A few small bugs have been corrected. -- The "ZipView" program is no longer neccessary because... -- UnZip now has an option to list the contents of zipfiles. -- The files' CRC is now checked when extracting files. -- An option to test the files' integrity has been added. -- The files' original date and time is preserved. -- IBM self-extracting zipfiles can now be processed. -- Although directory paths aren't preserved in this version, files that contain directory paths are now properly extracted to the current directory. -- If you abort the program with CTRL-C, all open files are now properly closed before the program exits. --------------------------------------------------------------- USAGE INSTRUCTIONS "UnZip" supports many options that allow you to list, test, view, print, or extract the contents of .ZIP files. Usage: UnZip [option] zipfile[.zip] [file1 file2 ...] Options: -e or -x is used to extract files (default). The files' original date and time is automatically preserved. -s is used to extract files to the screen. This option should only be used with text (ASCII) files. -p is used to extract files to the printer. Again, this option should only be used with text (ASCII) files. -t is used to test the integrity of the files contained in the zipfile. The files' CRC is calculated, and you are warned if an error is detected. -v is used to list the contents of zipfiles. -vc does the same as above, but it will also list the files' CRC values. NOTE: Only one option is allowed to be specified at a time. "zipfile" is the name of the .ZIP archive. You don't have to include the extention ".ZIP" in the zipfile name, although it's ok if you do. "file1, file2, etc." are the names of the specific files to search for. If no files are specified, it defaults to ALL files. The "*" and "?" wildcards may be used in the zipfile or file1, file2, etc. filenames. Examples: To list the contents of the file "game.zip" type: UnZip -v game To list the contents of ALL .ZIP files on the disk in drive DF0: type: UnZip -v df0:* To extract ALL files from the zipfile "game.zip" type: UnZip -x game or UnZip game To extract only the file "qwerty" from the zipfile "program.zip" type: UnZip program qwerty To extract only those files ending in ".c" from the zipfile "file.zip" type: UnZip file *.c To extract all files ending in ".doc" and ".txt" from the zipfile "stuff.zip" type: UnZip stuff *.doc *.txt UnZip currently won't preserve directory paths. It just extracts all files to the current directory. Reason: When the "offical" Amiga versions of the PKZIP/UNZIP programs are released, my UnZip program will become obsolete. So, enjoy it while you can! :-) I have thought about developing a program to create .ZIP files on the Amiga, but decided against it. There are several other projects that I'm currently working on, and I really don't have the time to do it. I'll leave it up to the experts at PK-Ware to develop the Amiga version of PKZIP. Am_Convert will convert Chet Solace's "Final List" into a phone library format which is usable by Am_Nix. If you use PC-Pursuit and currently don't use Am_Nix, be sure to get a copy! It makes Pursuiting REAL easy, not to mention FUN! ARCre2 v2.1 -- A modified version of John Hoffman's ARCre utility which creates rename scripts for files whose names are longer than 12 characters, so they can easily be put into .ARC files. VERY useful! Beep! v1.0 -- A small program for your "c:" directory that produces an audible beep when run. The beep tone can be altered through command line arguments. Great for your Startup-Sequence to alert you of when the Startup-Sequence is finished executing. BorderOn v1.0 -- Two *small* utilities for your "c:" BorderOff v1.0 directory that will turn the border around the CLI window on and off. Turning off the border will allow for a TRUE 80 x 24 character CLI. Starlight-AM v2.00 -- A modem "answering machine" utility for BBS Sysops. Runs in the background when the Sysop has to take down the BBS for maintenence or something, and informs the user why the BBS is down, and when to expect it back up. Starlight-BBS v?.?? -- Still under development. Look for a pre-release beta version soon! UnTar v1.0 -- List the contents of, and/or extract files from UNIX ".tar" archives.
