NewMouse V1.2 - by Alessandro Zummohttp://freepage.logicom.it/azumo NewMouse - `The Ultimative Serial Mouse Driver` ... that`s what is written in the docfile of the archive at least. Since quite a while I`ve been annoyed about drawing circles with my little A1200-Mouse on its pad, during which I`ve often been flying into a tantrum, especially when I wanted to exactly pixelize some graphics and the pointer was just hanging around somewhere on the screen without moving. So, I just bought a new mouse with a wheel and a third button, added NewMouse and some other tools and everything is fun again. Features:
Supported protocols:
Software which is supported by MouseWheel:
To operate a serial PC-mouse on AMIGA you first need an adapter for the AMIGA`s serial port. It is not so expensive (ATS 29,-), the mice aren`t, too. My wheel-mouse cost about ATS 140,-. Plugged the mouse, ran Freemaus and that`s it. On start you can alter the device, unit and protocol incl. the options. I`ve tried it with the serial.device and the 8n1.device. Works both without problems. Of course, the mouse can only be used with a serial port (RS232), so it won`t work with the original mouse-port. One disadvantage is that the pointer moves a little bit flabby over the screen. It seems, that the serial port is just too slow, to move the pointer in a more smooth way. But you quickly get used to it, as the new mouse just seems to float over the pad. Although there are slight problems with fast movements, the pointer can be brought into position exactly when the mouse is moved slowly - just like with an original Amiga-mouse. And one more thing, which shouldn`t bother all of you, though...: I`ve now got a "ducks itself"-Microsoft-mouse liing on my table...so you should point out exactly what you want, when ordering your new mouse, or you`ll face the same sh** as me ;) After all this is not such a problem as you can easily erase some letters, which will result in a `roso`, `ic` or you just erase everything - will be the best in fact. Everybody who`s not so happy with his mouse, should really consider getting a wheel-mouse, even more, as they`re quite cheap, they`ve got a wheel and a third button. But remember: just mice with a serial bus will work, no PS/2! Disadvantages are the slightly delayed movements of the pointer (which is no jitting!) and second that the serial port is occupied. The mouse won`t work before the driver is started, that means, that one will need an original Amiga-mouse plugged to the system to get into the boot-menu by pressing left & right mouse-button. Positive:
Negative:
Conclusion: absolutely recomendable for everyone looking for a new mouse. Oh, by the way, NewMouse is cardware, so please send a postcard to the author, will you? |
