1. Installation Tips for WinUAE - Test of Edition 01/2001 (by Thomas Graf)
I have read the article Denis Nikolics wrote about WinUAE, too. I also am a supporter. It
is not a genuine Amiga, but on a fast Laptop it is real fun. Right now I am travelling in
Amerika/Hawaii and cannot be parted from my emulated Amiga. :)
I have read that Denis had problems with AmigaOS 3.9. I have overcome all problems with
the installer. Here a few important hints:
- 100% sound emulation must be activated, because the installer wants to
play sound with sound datatype.
- At first copy the CD via WinUAE to a .hdf partition. Make the
appropriate assign and after that you must make all files readable,
executable and writeable with the command "Protect AmigaOS39:#? rwed ADD
ALL"
- Then start the installer and let it run. Cancel the last step, before it
wants to make a new start (important, because it produces a steady reset
otherwise).
- Open the Startup-Sequence with an editor and change the line "c:setpatch
QUIET" to "c:setpatch SKIPROMUPDATES QUIET". By doing this you prevent the
installation of the scsi.device and the Fast File System. These are
incompatible with WinUAE. So far I can't find out why.
That's it. Everything else works just perfectly. If you have a fast enough PC, there's no
probs playing MP3s. :))
