Wie seit langer Zeit eingespielt wird man in der "LiesMich" mit der allgemeinen Übersicht begrüßt:

   Aminet ist wieder voll in Betrieb und es gibt wieder eine Menge Neuheiten.
   Der Inhalt:
   960 MB   neue Software erschienen zwischen CD 29 und dem 1. März
    12 MB   kommerzielle Software:   Der 3D-Shooter Gloom

   usw. usw. usw.

Wie eingangs zu lesen ist, ist diesmal als Bonus das Spiel GLOOM III enthalten.

Eine Beschreibung oder gar Bewertung dieses Spieles werde ich nicht abgeben, ich enthalte mich meiner Stimme. Wie ich herausgelesen habe, kann dieses Spiel 30 Tage gespielt werden, dafür wurden die entsprechenden Programme nach ENVARC kopiert. Die 30 Tage rechnen sich selbständig herunter ohne dass ein Datum benötigt wird. Also den eigenen Kalender vor der Installation vorzustellen ist wirkungslos.

Sollte es jemanden geben, der dieses Spiel noch weniger kennt als ich, es ist ein "Ballergame" der härteren Sorte, wenn ich den verschiedenen Beschreibungen glauben kann. Dieses Zombie Edition game von Gareth Murfin hat acht Ebenen

Nun wird es etwas schwieriger für mich, hier wie gefordert eine Bewertung über die vorliegende Aminet-CD Nr. 30 von mir zu geben. Am ersten Tage kann man höchstens ein Stimmungsbild abgeben und wenn mein Gesicht nun ein Smiley wäre, dann würden die Mundwinkel tendenziell ganz leicht nach unten zeigen und auf der Stirne würden sich leichte Sorgenfalten bilden.

Das Hauptgewicht liegt diesmal einwandfrei bei den Mods (191 MB), Pix (99 MB) und Games (61 MB). Drei Rubriken, in denen ich mich überhaupt nicht auskenne. Ich brauche wohl wirklich nicht erwähnen, dass bei den angegebenen Maßeinheiten der Bytes es sich um gepackte Files handelt. Die Sparten der Hardware- und Softwareprogramme (biz, comm, hard und disk) sind ein klein wenig mager ausgefallen. Ein Blick in die Highlights bestätigt den Verdacht. Der Schwerpunkt scheint auf PowerPC und Online zu liegen. Oh da fällt etwas heraus: Amiga_A-Z, ein Lexikon. Eine englische Sisyphusarbeit in AmigaGuide Format ohne jegliches Schnickschnack mit Stand Februar 98. Um ein Bild zu bekommen, habe ich den Buchstaben "P" herausgegriffen.

  PAL                Phase Alteration Line. European Standard for TV resolutions running 
                     at rates of 15.6kHz Horizontal and 50Hz Vertical. DblPAL runs at 
                     27.5KHz Horizontal. Standard size of 640 x 256.

  Parallel           The parallel port used mainly to send data to printers. Uses
                     8 data lines instead of Serial's 1 line and therefore faster.
                     The Amiga has only  a simple port with only 16 pins in use out
                     of 25.

  Paula              Sound chip used in all Amigas. Can produce 8 bit stereo sound.
                     Controls parts of floppy drives and joysticks as well.

  PC                 Personal Computer. Tends to refer to Intel based computers
                     running MS DOS or Windows. But can be valid for any single user
                     computer.

  PCI                Peripheral Connection Interface. Standard expansion slot for
                     modern computers such as PCs, Macs and Suns. Replaces the older
                     ISA slot.

  PCMCIA             Personal Computer Memory Card International Association.
                     Standard for 'Smart Cards' such as memory or RAM Disk cards that
                     can be fitted on the left side slot of A600s or A1200s. Can be
                     used for SCSI such as the SquirrelSCSI or Whippet fast serial card.

  PCX                Picture Format used on PCs mainly.

  PDF                Portable Document Format. Page description format but simpler
                     than postscript.

  PFS                Professional Filing System. Replaces FFS at is faster, and more
                     stable (no more Validation) and can bypass the 4GB limitation.

  Pixel              Picture element. A single dot on the screen.

  PNG                Portable Network Graphics. Replacement file format for GIF as
                     GIF has licensing restrictions from CompuServe while PNG doesn't.

  Pointer            An arrow or other pointing image controlled by the Mouse.

  Postscript         Page description language used extensively in Destop Publishing
                     and high end printers.

  PowerPacker        Compression method used on pictures or text or even programs
                     which allows realtime decompression when opened.

  POP3               Point of Presence. Protocol used to send/receive Electronic mail.

  PowerUp            Name given by Phase 5 to PowerPC accelerator cards for the Amiga
                     computer. Currently 603 and 604 PPC chips are used.

  PowerPC (PPC)      Name of the range of Processor chips made by Motorola, uses
                     RISC (Reduced Instruction Set Chip) technology for extra speed.
                     Range includes 601, 603, 604, 620 and G3.

  PPP                Point to Point Protocol. A type of serial line protocol used 
                     for Dial Up networking.

  Preferences        Configuration programs used to set up the Amiga to the user's
                     preferences. Sets up the screen, colours, printers, pointer and
                     so on.

  Printer            Output device which produces a paper copy of whatever is on the
                     computer screen for example, text or pictures.

  Project            A data file produced by a program or tool. Also the name of an
                     icon type.

  Promotion          A software de-interlacer on AGA chipsets. Turns off display
                     flickering on non-interlaced VGA monitors.

  Protocol           A standard using in networking for sending data between people.
                     Standards include: IPX, TCP/IP, SMTP, POP3 etc.

  PSU                Power Supply Unit. Usually a transformer which converts mains
                     electricity to lower voltages for use with computer equipment.

Bei einer zweiten Durchsicht der CD fällt auf, dass spezifische Programme, wie WarpUP V31 oder Picasso96 von den Usern, die diese benötigen, bestimmt längst von den Homepages der Firmen gezogen wurden. Aber diejenigen ohne Internetanschluss haben nun die Möglichkeit, ihre Modifizierung zu fahren. Ansonsten scheint es mir, dass sehr viele Updates vorliegen und zusätzlich noch in verstärktem Maße Sprachangleichungen, wie serbisch, kroatisch, polnisch, aber auch italienisch, spanisch und portugiesisch. Und hier nun zu selektieren, habe ich ehrlich gesagt keine Lust.

Doch etwas gutes. Hier ist ein Patch CygnusEd_4 auf 4.17, aber halt, da war doch was. Genau, auf Aminet-25 ist schon ein Patch auf Version 4.2, oder sollte 4.17 doch noch neuerer sein? Es lohnt sich also doch etwas genauerer hinzuschauen.

  The   update   program   requires  that  you  insert  the  original  "CygnusEd
  Professional Release 4" CD into your CD-ROM drive. The CD icon must be visible
  in  the Workbench window. The update procedure itself looks very much like the
  CygnusEd  installation process, but it cannot completely replace it. Thus, you
  must have CygnusEd installed before you can update it.

  This  update  package  uses  the SAS binary patcher program "spatch", which is

In diesem Zusammenhang möchte ich aber nicht vergessen auf CED_HTML hinzuweisen. Dieses ist eine AREXX-Scriptsammlung, um mit CygnusEd erzeugte Texte in ein HTML Dokument zu verwandeln und zwar nach den HTML Standard v3.2 Richtlinien. Die AREXX Scripte werden über Shortcuts aufgerufen. CED_HTML ist Freeware.

Ein größerer Sprung bei den Updates ist wohl bei MTRechIII geschehen. Im Januar erschien die Version 1.04 mit Angleichung Mehrwertsteuer und Währungsumrechnung. Jetzt in der Version 1.05 ist folgendes geschehen:

• - Umstellung auf die >= V38 wizard.library, womit sich viele Probleme endlich erledigen.
• - Bemerkungstext in die Kundenverwaltung aufgenommen.
• - Schnelldruckfunktion jetzt auch in der Inventurliste und der Kontenverwaltung verfügbar.
• - Im ScreenMode-Requester erscheint jetzt immer der zuletzt selectierte Modus als Vorgabe.
• - Fehler im Sort der Artikelgruppen behoben.
• - mehrere Fehler in der Inventurfunktion behoben.
• - Eingabeprüfung bei Ein und Ausgangsbelegen, sowie die Fortschreibung des Kundenkontostandes funktioniert jetzt wieder einwandfrei.

   Es folgen einige Highlights dieser CD. Mods, Spiele, Bilder und Demos
   werden nicht mit aufgelistet, da sie eigene Bestenlisten haben. Die
