There was no game that was worried about that much as Wasted Dreams, which was previously named Distant Dreams. If you remember all the problems with this game: The original developer team went into bankrupcy and was bought from another developer team, names were continously changed, Vulcan Software rejects the project and sells the rights to the developer team... Many thought, that it wouldn't be published at all. Now, it is reality! Wasted Dreams requires an Amiga with AGA or graphics board and 3 MB or FAM as well as a CD-ROM. You can read a review in the next AMIGA aktuell international, because I haven't got my copy, yet.
Steffen Haeuser informed me again extensive regarding the theme Shogo & Co. and I don't want to keep them away from you: Hyperion not just got a licence for the game Shogo, but a licence for the LithTech engine. This is a common 3D engine, which allow realisation of games of any sort. The programming of the game is becoming unimportant, if this engine has been ported, it is possible to also other games, which base on this engine without big problems. If there are ediquate sales, more games of Hyperion Software, based on the LithTech engine, like the 3D shooter Blood 2, could follow.
Crystal Software and Electronics want to contine publishing games for the Amiga. There was especially an interest in the NG-Amiga, said the Managing Director David Conolly. But they don't want to develop games for the Amiga, but to distribute or to publish them. Connolly makes clear, that only high-quality games will be published. If you are interested, you can contact David Connolly via <david@pc-software.com>.
This addon promises more than 20 new, even more gloomy and exciting levels as well as levels especially developped for the Death Match Mode. For this addon the original Hexen is required, which is available from Alive Mediasoft, of course. Hexen Deathkings of the Dark Citadel costs around 25.00 DEM (approx. 12.76 Euros) and can be purchased from the Alive Mediasoft page (www.innotts.co.uk/alive-mediasoft/main.html. The addon is shipped on CD-ROM and supports graphics boards as well as the PowerPC processor.
For their game Maim & Mangle The World Foundry is looking for graphics designers. The requirements for the graphic designer are quite high, so he has to be able to use Lightwave, experience in the 3D range and he hast to read The World Foundry Game Encyclopaedia. I hope, I didn't shock you. If you are interested contact rob@worldfoundry.com!
Recently I found games announced for the NG-Amiga on the webpage of Amiga Flame, I don't want to keep away from you. These games have been announced for the NG-Amiga:
X-Treme Racing fans can look forward: With Joyride a game in the style of Silltuna's classic is under development. The team consists of a small group of developers, who work for a year on Joyride and hope, that it will be ready within 2 months. In the final version there will be three different car types and at least 10 different courses. The game requires at least an 030 Amiga with 8 MB Fast RAM and, of course, a CD-ROM. A publisher for Joyrid isn't present, yet.
Rick Jones, an Amiga journalist wrote in some newsgroups from his visit on the Los Angeles Entertainment Electronic Expo, on which he asked some well-known games companies about their meaning about the Amiga NG. But he didn't ask some "unimportant persons", but persons with titles as President, Vice President, Manager and Director, so they are no unimportant persons. Companies like Psygnosis, Blue Byte and Microprose know the NG Amigas, but want to develop for them, if there are enough computers sold and there is a potential market. Rick Jones made clear, that many companies didn't know, there was a new Amiga under development. This leads into the question, why Amiga, Inc. doesn't inform the companies. So we can only hope, that Amiga, Inc. is going to make this up for winning them over.
What is the result, if you cross Worms, Cannon Fodder and King Arthur's World? Satanic Dreams knows the answer: The result is the game Minimum Safe Distance, which offers according to the developers massive explosions, much blood (?) and more than 40 different weapons. In addition it is going to run with 50 fps on a standard 020 Amiga. But it requires AGA and 4 MB Fast RAM, as well as a CD-ROM drive.
A still unnamed game, based on a movie, is to be published by Digital Images. According to Stuart Walker it is going to be a spectacle full of action. The game is supposed to combine action and strategy and includes an isometric 3D game engine with FMV sequences of high quality and Manga/Anime graphics. The game will offer a single player mode as well as a Multi player mode (using network and Internet). A webpage with informations about the game will be available, soon. Digital Images wants to publish the game in around summer 2000.
Q-Lab, which previously acted as musicians only want also go into game development. If they have been known for the music e.g. of Zombie Massacre and FUBAR, they will be known also for some games in the future. Three of them were already announced: Po Po Chicken is a mixture of Donky Kong Country, Bublle Bobble and Chuckie Egg. W.E.L. (work title) is a 3D action adventure. The last, still unnamed game, is a 3D war game. Q-Lab is still looking for programmers of various projects. If you are interested you can contact q@qlab.swinternet.co.uk.
The newcomers of Trogladite Software is currently working on a game called Recovery: 2190, that is similar to the Dune series. Some parts of the game are also similar to Myst. Recovery: 2190 requires at least an AGA-Amiga with 68030 processor as well as 6 MB of RAM. It is still in the early phase and hasn't a publisher, yet.
The Civilization like multi-player game Great Nations is published in a new demo version. Gret Nations is available for various platforms like FreeCiv: These are currently Amiga, Windows and Linux. Great nations contains many features of the original Civilization, but also some new ones as unlimited size of the world, support for 2D and 3D tile sets as well as AGA and graphics boards. Since the demo version 1.3 e.g. these things have been changed: Improvement of the graphics, many improvements of the speed, statistic screen added, many bug removals, trade & connections have been built in and many more. At last there are news from clickBOOM: Their next shoot-em-up game T-Zer0 will be shipped with a small delay in the end of July. clickBOOM also revealed, that the game will be shipped with a level editor, what is very unusual for shoot-em-ups. The editor was previously used by the programmers only to create the standard levels. On the clickBOOM website the music of the game has been made available as MP3 for download. If you are interested, you can download the music directly from http://www.clickboom.com.
A preview video of the game Gilbert Goodmate by Prelusion Software has been published on their homepage and can be downloaded from http://www.prelusion.se/dload/gilbert_preview.zip. Also some data about the progress have been published and are like this:
| Graphics: | 70 % |
| Animation: | 25 % |
| Music: | 50 % |
| Dialogues: | 30 % |
| Engine: | 50 % |
| Sum: | 45 % |
So it will take some time for the final release.
There are news from Operation: Counterstrike since a long time. On the website there news have been published, that there will not be a demo of the game in the near future. But there is a chance, you get one one the World of Amiga show. The TCP/IP support is as good as ready and they built in the weather effects, they say. In the moment they are working on a new animation format.
