1. Interview with Marcel Beck, author of the eMail software 'YAM'

AMIGA aktuell international:  Mr. Beck, thank you, you have got the time to answer the following questions.

Marcel Beck:   You're welcome

AMIGA aktuell international:  YAM is currently available in revision 2.0p7. Will there be a final revision 2.0?
(Remark of the translator: YAM 2.0 is available now on www.yam.ch)

Marcel Beck:  2.0p7 was the last public beta version. There are some internal revisions, but the next publication is YAM 2.0 "final".

AMIGA aktuell international:  When could this be?

Marcel Beck:  If the translations we ready in time and there are no severe problems, YAM 2.0 could be published in the Aminet in first half of July.

AMIGA aktuell international:  What new things are going to be there in future?

Marcel Beck:  For revsions after 2.0 there is HTML support planned, so HTML formatted mails can be shown directly in YAM. Also attached pictures can be shown directly in the mail text. More planned features are hierarchic mail boxes, IMAP4 support and some other things.

The YAM users have many ideas. The list of ideas has nearly 200 entries...

AMIGA aktuell international:  Do you want to port YAM, when the NG-Amigas are available?

Marcel Beck:  Maybe, if I replace my A4000T with an NG-Amiga. I don't program for platforms I don't use myself in principle (so there will never be a YAM for Windows).

AMIGA aktuell international:  Actually YAM doesn't need PPC support. Are you thinking about PPC-support?

Marcel Beck:  The coding and unarchiving of attachments could be accelerated for a factor of 10 with a PPC version. I have planned to test it, as soon as I get my PPC board.

AMIGA aktuell international:  The new G3/G4 turbo boards will no longer have 68k processors. So a PPC port would be useful, wouldn't it?

Marcel Beck:  Yes, sure, but this requieres, that I own such a turbo board and the necessary compiler software.

AMIGA aktuell international:  Finally I would like to know, if there are other project possible in the near future. What projects could that be?

Marcel Beck:  The programming of YAM and the replying of eMails requires a large amount of my free time, so I don't have any time for other large Amiga projects.

AMIGA aktuell international:  I wish you all the best and good bye.

Marcel Beck:  Thank you and the same to you.

The interview was made by Sofiane Ben Hassine.
