THESE INSTRUCTINS ARE IMPORTANT TO READ FOR NOT LOOSING YOUR WORK!

Before starting to use this software make backup of your synths data. For
example with "SEND ALL DATA TO MIDI?" function found on your synth using
some other software (like you sequencer).

Always when starting to edit a new program or loading program into memory
initialize all sounds on synthesizer. If you don't, synth may freeze up and
display some error message. You can continue only by turning power off and
 on again on synth.

Remember to press store button on synth after you have finished editing pr-
 ogram or mix!

CHECK YOUR SYNTHESIZERS USER MANUAL IF YOU ARE UNFAMILIAR WITH INITIALIZING
 PROGRAM OR STORING PROGRAM/MIX.

This window is where you can edit:

-VOICE, LEVEL, PITCH, FILTER, and AMP/RANGE parameters.

-Special notes about listview gadgets (those with what you choose sample
   group/sample or modulation sources/destinations)!

-Exit from listview gadget by pressing right mouse button and choose
like normally with left mouse button.

-You may have noticed these files Keyboard.QS and Drums.QS! If Not,
you find them from the same directory as where the main program is.
They are normal ASCII files wich you can view with your text displa-
yer/editor. This is where the sample group and sample names are sto-
red for listview gadget. If you have sound card(s) (i don't) you can
change sample group and sample names to these files (Keyboard.QS for
KEYBOARD mode names and Drums.QS for DRUM mode names).

HERE IS HOW YOU DO IT!

FIRST COPY FILES TO SOMEWHERE SAFE PLACE. IF YOU MANAGE TO MESS THE
FILES TOO BADLY YOU HAVE A BACKUP!!!

Start QS-Edit program and choose KEYBOARD or DRUM mode depending on
which mode sound/group names you want to replace. Then press button:
            -'Voice...' at KEYBOARD mode
-'Sample Group... | Sample...' at DRUM mode
Listview gadgets should pop in front now.

There are these weird group names
-CART 1...CART 8 and Grp 25...Grp 47 at KEYBOARD mode
-CRT D1...CRT D6 and Grp 63 at DRUM mode
        Press one of those...

If after selecting the group name there is reading something else in
synths display then in the selected name on computers screen you ha-
ve found the right place where to start replacing with right names.
Open your text editor and load either file. Find the group name from
the first line, let's say it was CART 1 in KEYBOARD mode for exampl-
        e. Replace text CART 1 with the group name that is in the synth scr-
een. Use only 6 letters for the name and leave one space mark, so
that there are total of 7 marks.

... CART 1 CART 2 CART 3 CART 4 ... the line is like this
... XXXXXX CART 2 CART 3 CART 4 ... change it to look like this
(replace the X marks with the name!!!)
REMEMBER TO LEAVE ONE SPACE MARK BETWEEN NAMES!! !

And now let's replace those sample names. It's basically the same
thing but now you can use 10 letters for name and leave one space
         mark, total 11 marks.
Find line which starts like this:

            offCART 1 n/a n/a n/a ...

And change n/a slots with the sample names and if you like, delete
the word CART 1 and leave word 'off' on it's place.

            off XXXXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXXX ...

I THINK YOU SHOULD UNDERSTAND IT NOW BUT READ THESE LAST WORDS!!!

Pay attention to the space marks between names. If there are no space mar-
ks (which stands for 0) QS-Edit program wont be able to lay the names cor-
rectly in the listview gadgets. THE QS-Edit PROGRAM MAY EVEN CRASH. Espec-
ially when changing last name in line be sure you don't leave too many or
  any less marks.

These instructions are only my guessing, because I don't have any sound c-
ards to test. But I think this is the way it goes.

On the bottom right corner there is MIX GROUP CHANNEL selector for QSR, I
don't know if this works on other synths. There is also cycle gadget to

The MIDI Group/Keyboard cycle gadget is named like that, because on QSR it
activates MIDI Group and on others the KEYBOARD.

@Node "Prefs"

Here you can select another device or different unit number. Also here are
options to turn off parameter sending to synth!

Open Device = if set, device is open and will be tried to open when program
is loaded. If not, just the opposite.

Open Shared = If set, other programs can use the same device. If not, the
device is completelly at our use. Set this to off if you int-
end to use the capture facility so that you don't loose any
               data for sure.

Unit = defaults to 0, serial port found on every amiga. Other unit
numbers are for extra ports added later to system with expan-
               sion boards.

Device Name = select another device for sending parameters to serial port.
               Defaults to serial.device.

Send PROGRAM, EFFECT and MIX parameters to synth after load = if set, when
you load project, parameters will also be send to synth.

SAVE = save current settings to disk
USE = use current settings but don't save
CANCEL = exit without changing settings

ertouch and velocity controllers effect on your programs and mixes.

There is also octave, notes off, program change and midi channel selectors.
Octave can be changed by pressing F1 and F2, press SPACE to send notes off
 message.
@EndNode

@Node "Copy Sounds..."

Here you can copy sounds to another sound or to buffer. If you want some
 sound to another program:

       - Copy it to buffer.
       - Load another program. Maybe now you want to turn off the parameter
sending to synth found on the @{" Prefs " Link "Prefs"} editor.
       - Select the same buffer as source and copy it to sound of your choi-
         ce.

Parameters will also be send to synth.
@EndNode

@Node "INIT Sounds..."

Here you can INIT parameters to match the values as if they vere INITiali-
zed with synths controls. INIT can be done as KEYBOARD or DRUM init. This
init actually only sends values to synth, which match the values if the so-
und would have been really initialized with synths controls manually.
SO DON'T CONFUSE THIS WITH THE REAL INITIALIZE FOUND ON SYNTHS CONTROLS!

 In KEYBOARD mode:

       - INIT SOUND = INITializes keyboard parameters from the current sound.
       - INIT DRUM = is obsolete in this mode.

 In DRUM mode:

       - INIT SOUND = INITializes all 10 drums parameters at the current so-
                      und.
       - INIT DRUM = INITializes only parameters at the current drum.
@EndNode

@Node "Program Name..."

Enter here name for your program. Use only the characters which are shown
in the window for avoiding problems. AND REMEMBER TO ALWAYS PRESS ENTER SO
 THAT THE CHANGES TAKE PLACE.

Name will be printed at the screens title bar and send to synth. These same
instructions apply also to mixes name found on @{" Mix " Link "Mix"} window.

@Node "Read This First!!!"

In this mode you can capture/dump SysEX messages via MIDI from your syn-
thesizer. And you can copy parameters found on those dumps to editors.
Capture is done automatically by first sending dump request message to
synth. So you must only turn synth on and not needing to send message
manually with "MIDI PRG", "MIDI MIX" or "SEND ALL DATA TO MIDI" functi-
ons found on STORE mode. Of course this can be switched off if you want
to dump data manually (ie. using some different synth model). Also there
is the handy LISTVIEW gadget with what you can easily view ALL messages
contents (explained on the "Capture Mode Features").

MAYBE YOU SHOULD SET THE OPEN SHARED TO OFF WHEN USING THE CAPTURE FACI-
LITY SO THAT THE DATA IS REALLY FROM THE SYNTH AND NOT FROM ANYWHERE EL-
SE. SET IT TO OFF AT THE @{" Prefs " Link "Prefs"} editor.
@EndNode

@Node "Capture Mode Features"

Let's look at those gadgets found on the right side of the window first.

NUMBER = Select with this slider the PROGRAM+EFFECT or MIX that
you want to capture/dump from/to the "USER MEMORY". You
                     can select:

                   - PRG+FX 0-127, MIX 0-99
                   - And if you drag the slider all the way to right it sho-
uld say BUF on the place of the usual numbers. This me-
ans that you can also capture the EDIT BUFFER dependi-
ng of the CAPTURE MODE. You can also dump messages to
EDIT BUFFER with the same manner.

CAPTURE MODE = Select with this cycle gadget what you want to capture.
                     Possible modes:

                   - PROGRAM+EFFECT
                   - MIX
                   - ALL

CAPTURE = IF YOU WANT TO CAPTURE PROGRAM+EFFECT CHANGE MODE WITH
SYNTHS CONTROLS TO 'PROG', AND IF MIX CHANGE IT TO 'MIX'
THIS COULD HAVE BEEN DONE AUTOMATICALLY BY SENDING CHA-
NGE MODE MESSAGE TO SYNTH BUT I FOUND IT TO BE LITTLEB-
                     IT CONFUSING.
Start Capturing. After an succesful capture the bytes
that were captured are printed on the screen. And if c-
aptured an PROGRAM+EFFECT or MIX the name of it will a-
lso be printed so that you can be sure that you got the
right one. Capture can be stopped with ESC button.

AUTO CAPTURE = In AUTO CAPTURE mode the capture is done automatically
by first sending an "dump request message" to synth on
which it will then respond with a dump depending of the
                     CAPTURE MODE.
Change this to MANUAL CAPTURE and you can capture mess-
ages by sending them manually with synths controls.

DUMP->SYNTH = Click this button to dump message to synth. You can ch-
ange the memory location on which it will be sended wi-
th the NUMBER slider explained earlier. If you are dum-
ping PROGRAM+EFFECT an requester will ask you if you
want to dump PROGRAM, EFFECT or BOTH parameters.

COPY TO EDITOR = With this button you can copy parameters to PROGRAM+E-
FFECT or MIX editors depending of the message type. If
copying PROGRAM+EFFECT an requester will ask you if you
want to copy PROGRAM, EFFECT or BOTH parameters.

CLEAR BUFFER = Clears capture buffer so that another message can be
                     captured.

YOU CAN ALSO ENTER THE CAPTURES SIZE MANUALLY BY CLICKING THE INTEGER
GADGEDT WHICH SHOWS THE CAPTURE SIZE (491 for PROGRAM+EFFECT, 166 for
MIX and 79479 for ALL). SO YOU CAN CAPTURE MESSAGES FROM OTHER MANUFACT-
    RES SYNTHESIZERS.

YOU CAN @{" SAVE " Link "Save As..."} MESSAGES TO DISK AND @{" OPEN " Link "Open..."} MESSAGES FROM DISK.

The LISTVIEW gadget found from the bottom right corner of the window.
When captured or opened from an disk an ALL type of message, this gadget
will be filled with the names contained by the message. First there are
PROGRAM+EFFECT names and then MIX names. Every time you click on an name
an operation defined by the cycle gadget under it will be done. The ope-
    rations:

TEST PROGRAM/MIX = PROGRAM+EFFECT or MIX will be send to synths EDIT
BUFFER, nothing will be changed from your synths m-
emories. This is an handy way to check what kind of
programs there are in that ALL message.

COPY TO EDITOR = Copies parameters found on PROGRAM+EFFECT or MIX to
corresponding editor. If copying PROGRAM+EFFECT an
requester will ask you if you want to copy PROGRAM,
                         EFFECT or BOTH parameters.

COPY->SysEX EDITOR = Replaces ALL message with single PROGRAM+EFFECT or
MIX message at the capture buffer.

SAVE PRG/MIX AS... = Saves one PROGRAM+EFFECT or MIX to disk.

I guess it's also nice to explain the large area where the numbers appe-
ar when message is captured/opened. I added this that you can see easilly
that capture was succesful. At least for now you can't edit those numbe-
rs only view them and scroll the area with the scroller gadget.
It is an custom to put those numbers as HEXADESIMAL. IF YOU DON'T KNOW
HOW TO READ THEM, IT SHOULD NOT MATTER.
