Short: Client for IGS, Internet Go Server, V1.1ß Uploader: kekkonen@geocities.com Author: kekkonen@geocities.com Type: game/board Requires: OS3.x, AmiTCP or compatible, xen.font, xhelvetica.font Version: 1.1ß Note: ŻŻŻŻŻ This is a beta version of the client. There are bugs etc, so beware. Developing a program that uses internet is not an easy task to do if one does not have an internet connection :-/ In practise this means that I have not really done any other than superficial testing - use this program at your own risk. If you notice any bugs or would like to see some feature, gimme a call or mail me at kekkonen@geocities.com. I probably will read my mail someday, but quite possibly not for a month or two... The documentation provided is old and needs updating, so don't be surprised if many features are not explained at all. I just don't have time to write documents right now. Description: ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ Ambassador is a go client for Amiga, like AmigaIGC, only more advanced and userfriendly. Go is an ancient Chinese board game that can be played on the internet on the Internet Go Server with this client program. If you do not play go nor plan to learn to play, you don't really need this program for anything. New to IGS? ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ IGS stands for Internet Go Server - you can play an old (about 4000 years) Chinese board game against other folks over there. If you do not have an account to IGS, please telnet to IGS (igs.joyjoy.net, port 6969 - login as 'guest'), before running this client. When logged in to IGS, type help register. Follow the instructions IGS gives you. After you have an account and a password, you should again log in with telnet and type command "toggle client 1". After that you should log out (quit) and try out the Ambassador. If this sounds complex, do not worry - you only need to do this once and you're set to go. I plan to have a better support for new players in the client in the future. Requirements and recommendations: ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ - OS3.0 or newer required - Internet connection via AmiTCP/IP or compatible - Fast CPU recommended - Hard Disk recommended - AGA/GFX-card recommended - If you want sounds, you also need upd-daemon. You can find it from Aminet (util/rexx/Upd140.lha). It is also included in this archive. - Xen-font required . This is hardcoded into the program. This is likely to change in the future. Xen-font can be found from Aminet. - XHelvetica-font required (sizes 11 and 13). Also hardcoded. - For speech narrator.device & translator.library are required. Speech: ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ This version of Ambassador includer speech if you have narrator and translator. However, something is _very_ buggy at the moment, so beware... (also, speech is at the moment syncronous - if I can kill all the bugs, it will be asyncronous some day as it shoud be). BUGS: ŻŻŻŻŻ There are lots of bugs, many more than in v0.93. Some of the bugs really do crash your machine. However, as this version is otherwise far superior to the older version of Ambassador (and definately to AmigaIGC), you should use this one. Please do report all bugs to me as well as possible, preferrably with the capture files. Most easily I can be reached by mailing me at jarkkojpl@hotmail.com. kekkonen@geocities.com should also work, but the hotmail address is preferred. Usage: ŻŻŻŻŻ You must start Ambassador from the shell. Ambassador See the AmigaGuide document inside the archive for more (old) information. Major changes since v1.0ß: ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ o Toggling Help now really does enable/disable the help system. I also fixed the help/string bug - although now one has to activate the window one seeks information on. Damn OS3.x bugs...:( o Help has a simple hypertext interface (double click on words) o Improved pen allocation. 16 color screen graphics no more look ridicilously bad... o Local preferences has more pages o Player stats window o Statistics are collected of all games played by the user. o More sound output enabled o Notify system should now be functional Todo: ŻŻŻŻŻ o Speech for channels, shouts and system shouts o Asyncronous bugfree speech o Support for more IGS commands & options I don't have enough information to implement at the moment o (Better) support for new users. o Updated documentation o ARexx o Some top secret stuff
