You may need to go to prefs and select "choose at startup" or whatever it is, then save and close FW. Open FW back up, select custom when the requester comes up. When FW starts go back to prefs and select custom screen, then save. Save twice to be sure, there was a bug in FW5 that required you to save prefs twice, but I'm not sure that carried over to '97. In View/Preferences there is a box in the lower righthand corner that you can click on to save your window size as the default. Once I stretched the screen to where I wanted it (maximum), clicked on that button and saved it, all is fine now. But thanks for your help. > BTW, I'm in Hattiesburg, MS, not too far from you. Not too far at all. Well, I got the C= A2320 flicker fixer and it works great. It just plugs into the video slot. A friend of mine sent it to me from New Zealand, no less! I bought the Sony Multiscan 200ES 17" monitor and what a difference!! It's like night and day and has given this old A2000 new life! Even though I still run everything in only 8 colors for speed's sake, it's still 100% better than what I had with my old 1084S 15" monitor! Does the GVP Spectrum have a built-in flicker fixer?? You'll need one that does, and that's why I'm going to go with the Picasso IV. It's being supported, the P96 software is free, and it has a built-in flicker fixer. See ya... Simple MS Word import/export capability. Simple WordPerfect import/export capability. *Final Calc* Year 2000 compliance verification and fix if necessary. *Final Data* Year 2000 compliance verification and fix if necessary. Final Calc import/export (Depends on Y2000 compliance needed or not) *Holiday Cliparts* Renamed to /Final Clipart/ Addition of cliparts for the Subaru 360 Sedan, Roadster, Truck, and Van. I must say that i'm glad someone picked up the 'Final'series of programs. Softwood effectively abbandoned the Amiga market and no support was given anymore. In this way we atleast have some- one to turn to with problems, questions, etc. I consider the $65 they ask a very fair price. Even if many Amiga users already have one or more of the programs, then they still get the other programs which seperately used to cost more than $65 together only weeks ago. Ofcourse it is up to the individual user if they wish to buy the complete Officepackage. If you already own FW97 and you don't have any need for FinalData, FW Winblows, etc - then don't buy the CD. It's either this or not being able to buy the 'Final'series programs at all, let alone be able to buy updates. > I am hoping that we can ask Softpartners to rethink their postion. > The cost of putting the sofware on the disk, the disk cost, and > shipping cost would be a reasonable price for those who have > supported this software for YEARS. As far as i understood Softpartners is a seperate company, not in any way connected to Softwood (please correct me if i understood wrongly). Being a seperate company they did not benefit from any updatesales etc. Softpartners are now testing if the Amiga market is still viable, only if they sell enough FinalOffice packages, they will consider continuing the development. Which is only logical imho. The only thing which worries me is the very few additions they mention for FinalOffice 2.0. A PDF reader, a *simple* import/export module for Word & WP. That's about it. No footnotes, no bugfixes, etc. This way it looks as if the 'Final' series is a deadend. Maybe it's better to invest the money & time in AmigaWriter. I don't know. But i'm seriously considering buying the CD. Another thing is that they are only talking about an US version, what about all those German speaking FW users? > I am interested in hearing from you guys/gals, what do you think about > this offer from Softpartners? I dare say that my company uses SoftWood products more than anyone else in the whole world. Maybe a little exaggeration, but not much. I need the upgrades that they are talking about now, not down the road if enough of the 1.0 stuff sells. I need Final Calc to do some more things that it doesn't do. What would really be cool is better import of FC files into FW, especially graphs, and import of FW files into FC, like the include files. I've always had Amigas and have found a way to use them in my business for everything from test reports, correspondence, written reports, invoicing, forms, etc., but it's getting harder all the time. I'm starting to get a lot of info from other people I need to include in my stuff, but all their stuff is in MSWord or WP formats. > There is an other WP out now called AmigaWriter and they are promising > support and upgrades. If it will import WP stuff, I'll probably buy it. I need that capability now. FW doesn't do a good job of that right now. I've been thinking of buying a clone to do my business stuff, as it's getting harder and harder to do the things I need and want to do with my Amigas. Business productivity is mainly about software, and compatability is becoming increasingly more necessary as more information is being sent through the net. > I am interested in hearing from you guys/gals, what do you think about > this offer from Softpartners? If it will revive development on the compatability issue, I'm all for it. I would rather not buy a clone and save my money for the next generation Amiga, or a souped-up 4000T if anyone starts making them again. I've probably paid Softwood several hundred dollars over the years to get to where I am now. I don't need, nor do I want, FinalCalc or FinalData. However, I would definitely be interested in upgrades to FW97 if they were worth the money involved. What I DON'T want to do is spend money to have these same things on a CD, and thus enable SoftPartners to maybe proceed with upgrading FW97. I don't need FW97 on a CD -- I have it on my HD and on floppies. SoftPartners seems to be saying: "Buy Final Office 1 so we can have enough money to maybe (no guarantees) upgrade FW97." As stated, it is "Pre-Pressing price" and not "Upgrade" price. _#Final Upgrade information would#_ _#be announced at a later date#_ (probably after the CDs are finally pressed). It doesn't sound likely that they will really do any worthwhile upgrades. The only hope I have is that Softwood will eventually decide to rejoin the Amiga when the "next generation" comes out. This is a privat email from me to DJ Nick: [...] But I don't use the macros: bold/italic. Instead I use a built in function of FW: Go to menu: USER | OTHER | PREFERENCES Select your menu BOLD As COMMAND TYPE use MACRO PATH OR NAME is STYLE Bold For italic you have to use: STYLE Italic For underline you have to use: STYLE Underline For normal you have to use: STYLE Normal So anymore you don't need the stupid macros from Softwood.
