1. Internet contract

Either by an university, or any other provider (UK: Free Internet access or Another way to get Free Internet Access)

But you have to consider, that the demo version of IBrowse is unable to connect with http:// sites. So you have to use a PC or Voyager.

2. Modem

A 14.4 modem is just enough to quickly get eMails, even if the Internet is slow.

Today you should do proper jobs and buy a fast 56k modem (Important: It has to support the V.90 standard).

The modem is simply connected to the serial port. The internal serial port may be too slow, but it should be enough for the start.

3. TCP/IP Stack

There are more than one possibilities: Miami, Genesis, AmiTCP and some other minor, not so spreaded stacks.

Genesis is a successor the the older AmiTCP. Miami is under development for a long time and I think it is the best stack.
AmiTCP unfortunately has no graphical interface and so it is not to be recommended. I think it is not sold anymore for this purpose.

But who uses one of these stacks, won't have problems even with modern software.

4. User software

First, there is the browser.

There are IBrowse, Voyager and AWeb. These products all cost around 100 DEM (approx. 51.02 Euro). IBrowse shows the pages the same way as the rivals on the PC. The advantage of AWeb is, that it is the only competitor that supports JavaScript v1.1 (unfortunately the current standard is v1.2). Voyager is small and quick.

Because there are demo versions of all mentioned products you should test them and then buy a browser.

A very goold ftp program is AmFTP. Such a program isn't always necessary. (But for uploading your beautiful homepage...)

Further there is AmIRC for InternetRelayChat.

It seems, that any surfer installed ICQ. Now this is also possible on the Amiga. Using this software you can find out, if your friends just surf in the WorldWideBeb (if they also use ICQ). A port for the Amiga is not quite different from the PC version.

The programs Genesis, Voyager, AmIRC, AmFTP, MicroDotII (Mailer&Newsgroups) AmTelnet (no must for beginners), AmFinger (no must for beginners) are also on the Netconnect2-CD. To buy this CD is cheaper than to register each shareware program. The price for the complete NetConnect suite is about 109 DEM (approx. 55.61 Euro).
