Hello everyone.

I am rather sorry to find this so late, but glad to find it none the less. I am more than a bit crazy about Final Writer. You could say I live on the program. It is the first thing I open when the amiga comes one, and the last thing I shut down.

Maurice, if it is of any help to you the error code means:
"The named program could not be found or was not an ARexx program. ARexx
programs are expected to start with a comment (/*....*/). This error is
detected by the external interface and cannot be trapped by the SYNTAX
interupt."
Take a look at the ARexx scripts to see whether they conform. Also, where did
you place your ARexx script you want to use in FW?
Take care
Johann

Which scripts are you talking about? All of yours?
I don't have probs with a single one of them. They all work as they should.

Maybe you have the script nested too deeply within directories, so
that the full address of the file that is too long
 e.g.

    <Work:FinalWriter/macros/sample.arexx>

    would run,

whereas

<Work:Publishing/Word-Processors/FinalWriter/macros/drawing/curvedline.arexx>

might be too long.

Hope this helps.

you need the correct fwarexx.library for your FW-Version in progdir:libs.
If you have these libs in libs:, remove it there.

Yes, that's the problem of FW. It only starts ARexx-Scripts with less than
62 characters in filename. If the name is longer FW will cut it. So ARexx
can't find the script. Copy the script to RAM: and start it from there. It
will work.

Please look at the FW-TipsNTricks.guide (at Aminet). There the problem was
solved last year ;-))

Hi,

I hate the requester "Do you really want to quit?" if i want to shutdown
FinalWriter.
Than i found a better solution. You can shutdown FW without the stupid
requester:
Use the menu: Project | Quit instead of the Close gadget in the upper left
corner.

The quit button on the button strip (or pallete if you prefer) will do the same thing. As long as all documents are saved without changes one tap on the quit button, and it's gone.

BTW, which version of Final Writer are you using?

It can matter as to the type of advice that will work. If you are not using the latest version of you have the Winblows 95 version of Final Writer.

Maybe try Turboprint 6 or Studio printer drivers. Of course these are not
free, but they do a great Job! Also note that InkJet printers are known to be
slow. I guess it takes time for the ink to dry?!?! Try oneof the newer cheep
lazer printers.

Jay, when I got my HP Deskjet 660C it was obvious that the Amiga generic HP
driver was not the best option. After shopping around, I came across a driver
DJ Helper Two, develeped by Creative Focus in NY state.
It is a very good driver, although
with emphasis on color and graphics it is worth the money. I paid in early
1996 $75.00. Today it is down to $60.00. As I said it is especially designed
for color, but you may be setting yourself up for your HP color printer you
will buy for Christmas. The manual comes with it as a 'print manual' function.
Hope this helps.

Hallo,

i hope anyone can solve my problem;-)
I'm not able to manage eps-files in FW. If i import eps-graphics only a
frame will be appear. I do use the full screen mode of graphics.
It is the same result if i want to print this document.

Is there anybody who had the same problem and had solved it?
Thanks for any response.

Best regards

Buddy.... there are really only two options. The first being Turbo Print 6
(maybe even 7 ) now or Studio Printer 2.15
I've used the demo of Turbo Print 5 and it was great, but had problems with
eps graphics on my Canon 610 printer. My friend has a HP 520 and Turbo Print
worked really well for him. It even comes with a print que so that your Amiga
will calculate all the printed data, before it sends it to the printer. It
may be slow to create the printed document, but after that your printer should
fly. Also this is great so that if you have a complicated graphic you want
printed multiple times...you can print from the raw printer output, again
speeding things up dramatically.

The one thing you should be warry of, don't expect a printer driver to speed
up your Amiga....only your printer. If your Amiga is fairly slow....the
driver will make your printer fast and clear....but wont change the time it
takes to create the printed documents that are sent to the printer.

Hope this is of use,

Jay,

Well, for one thing, printing from FW is mostly dependant upon the speed of your computer's
processor. The faster your processor, the faster it prints. That's because printing
from FW is the same as printing a graphic; first the computer has to generate the
graphic, then it sends it to the printer. Extra ram helps, too. Go to the Workbench
while printing, and you can see it sucks up a lot of chip ram, practically all that
you have.

Although I haven't tried any of the Aminet drivers, I do have Studio Printer by Wolf
Faust. I believe it and another commercial print driver package (forget the name)
are probably your best bet. For black and white printing, Studio pretty much spits
it right out of my HP 660C.

Regards,
Billy

Heiko, I have tried to re-create your problem here. Can't simulate it. The best
I can offer is to review the FW user manual back in the Appendix section. There
is a write-up on EPS Clip Art. The section on Imported Graphics may give you a
clue on you own settings.
Let us know waht you find.

There are two types of eps, one with tiff-preview (named epsf) and one
without. Use the ghostscript packet for printing or converting eps or ps
files. Works fine. If you need installation tips, please report it me directly.

Hi,

If possible could someone let me know whether there
is a formal mechanism (or even a clever hack) for getting
footnotes into FW 97 documents? This is a feature that I
have been attempting to kludge using the FW Textblock but
with limited success (and this particular scheme is a bit
unwieldy at times too!) Many thanks in advance for any
response!

Where do you get those eps-files from?
I think that FW can handle epsf-files but not eps.
I for example use X-Trace to change pics in epsf-files & get the same
results.
But if you open the pic-config by double-clicking on the picture you can
change the screen-display for them by enable the full-display option.

That should normally solve your prob I think.

The problem is probably in EPS file type. Some of EPS versions doesnt
have EPS PREVIEW. For example, the same happens IF you try to load EPS
you just exported from DRAW STUDIO 2 into PageStream3.

As their EPS doesn't use PREVIEW - IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO IMPORT IT
PageStream :( I got just empty frame :(

But - the strangest thing in all this is - I CAN LOAD wihtoutproblems
EPS files I created using DrawStudio into FinalWriter97.

I was trying to import EPS files from MATH-SCRIPT, the only program
on Amiga that exports mathematics formulas in EPS with preview
and it worked fine since I had twenty or more mathematic eps files
loaded in FW97. When I reload document later - I NOTICED MORE THAN
15 formulas dissapears!!! And it was impossible to show them in FW97
correctly!!! :(

So - FinalWriter97 must have a wierd BUG about EPS files :(

If anyone can help, plz let me know. Maybe there is a patch that
can fix some bugs??

The biggest BUG I found in FinalWriter is ABOUT MARGINS:

I CAN NOT CHANGE MARGINS for example: Left margin to be 3 CM and right
1 CM!!! It shows me correctly but when printing I GOT REVERSED
MARGINS (Leftmargin = 1 CM and right = 3!!!).

Any help?

With this bug I can only print documents with centered documents
(left and right margins must be the same) ...

That's a big problem. I know what i say ;-)
I solved this problem with the function of FW 97: textframe.

But this macro and 17 other macros (e.g. references) i want to sell
commercially. At the moment an english user translates the guides.
So i won't tell you deatils about my mechanism ;-( Sorry.

Hallo Norbert,

Sorry, i have to say thats not my problem. Its a problem of an other user,
who hasn't a connection to the internet. I have to ask him for detailed
informations about the eps files.

Its not only the display on screen. Its also a problem by printing the
document. I thought he has used eps files by Adobe Illustrator (.ai). But
thats not the solution of his problem.

I work also with the great formula editor. Sometimes ;-)
But i don't have any problems with the integrated eps files.
Your reload problem:
Did you change already the mode of the graphics in FW to "imported mode", i
mean not linked (i don't know the name of the function in english)? Did you
get the same result?

Maybe ;-)

Be sure that you use "left/right pages" at the document. And check your
print margins. They has to be lower than the edit margins.
I hope that helps.

The preview is not important for FW97.

That`s really a big problem. You can manage it when you don`t save the
graphics
within the document. Just use the saved linked option. I`m using this trick a
long
time without any problem ( the actual document uses more than 100 EPS and 50
bitmap graphics ).

I guess that you don`t consider the left and right mode from FW97. When you
write a
book for example, tha margins are changed every page symmetric. First the left
margin
is on the left, second on the right an so on.

Hello,

After a crash of my harddrive I had newly to install Finawriter 97. Now I
can not safe documents in RTF ASCII HTML. I handled the installation again
but the problem is still the same.
