To all you subscribers of the FinalWriter mailing list
By Heiko Schröder (age@thepentagon.com)

You may have noticed that there have been no single email sent to the list
since 04-25-98. Some of you told me that they have received error-messages
when sending something to the list. The reason: The server of
finalwriter@coollist.com could not be reached.
I've not been idle and wrote an email to the administrators of
Coollist.com. I have not received an answer by them until now.
After that I tried to open a new mailing list at Amigaworl.com. But there
was also no response.
Now my idea:
I will try to run the mailing list with my own POP3-server as a remote
service. This means it uses not a permanent connection to the Internet. All
incoming mail will be processed and distributed to the list members as usual.
The mail will be processed and distributed to the list members as usual.
The temporary list address is finalwriter@thepentagon.com. You can use it
as soon as possible.
Though, FinalWriter development is temporary canceled, our mailing list
will stay alive.
If the new list address is active I will send you an email. Subscribing
again is not necessary.
Bye, my best regards.
Age

"umziehen" ;-)

Also bis dann. Haltet die Ohren steif.
Amiga and Finalwriter never die...

Ciao Age

I'm planning to upgrade my FW.

Now what is important for me is from what version on FW supports printing
GIF & JPG images.
I'm still using version 1 (yes, I know) and AFAIK there is no way to get
those images on paper, or am I wrong!?

Since version 3 FW supports GIFs and JPEGs and some others. Maybe since
version 2, but i don't know this.
But, why don't you buy FW97?

As I recall it was version 4 that allowed importing images via datatypes.

You could try a program called HappyDT from Aminet. It is supposed to allow
programs to use datatypes.

Hi Norbert and all,
I have FW 97 still no import of GIF & JPG files into FW. FimalData made a change at one
of their updates and one can load nearly all picture datatypes but no print only
looksi.
I convert, using GFX Convert to IFF ILBM format to use in FW. Eats a lot of memory, but
you always can delete after using and keep the GIF or JPG.
However it is worthwhile to upgrade FW to 97 to get all the other benefits including
text frames, HTLM etc. etc.
Hope this helps.

Printing? I think what you want say "importing" or "using into my
documents". You need Kickstart 3.0+ (datatypes feature) and Final
Writer 5 or 97... and the JPEG/GIF datatype, of course. The
datatypes feature with FW97 fails at some cases... you can fix this
with a patch (*) like HappyDT (search into Aminet).

If you have OS 3.0+ and the necessary datatypes... and the patch
HappyDT (or similar), I think what you don't need upgrading the
  program :).

I tried this before but the problem is that I don't have a gfx-card on my
old ECS machine so using datatypes would be another step back because they
only support 16 colours here on my system.

Right now I change the images with GFX Convert into IFF with 64 colours at
least. That's what my FW1 can print without problems. I tried to change them
into 128 coloured IFF's but it seems that 64 is the max. FW1 can print.

Where is the difference?
If I import them & use them in my documents I prefer to print them out
sometimes.

I forgot to mention that I only have an ECS machine without a gfx-card so it
would be a step back for me to use the datatypes with a max. of 16 colours.

What I want to see is a directly support without using datatypes like in
Irsee Soft's Gfx-manager.
I don't care how it looks on the screen but I want to have the full colours
on my printings.

I played a little with different settings in the datatypes prefs to get the
best palette on my printings but it seems that it doesn't matter how I set
them. Ham6 or 24bit or 256 colours. I always got the same result.

At the "Amiga Special" 1/2-98 you can find a CD with four commercial programs.
There's FinalWriter 3. The magazine costs 9,90 DM. There's also FinalData
V1, MaxonCinema and one other.

... TurboPrint 3.7.
I knew this CD but suddenly as you say it there appears another sad problem.
I don't have a CD-Rom-Player. :(

But I have got an offer for FW3. So I think I can use this in the near
future.

Hi everybody,

Does anybody use a graphics card with FW97?
If so, how well does it work?
How does Picasso IV compare with Cybergraphics?

best wishes,

Bob Chappell

It works as fine as you can think.

Firstly, PicassoIV is a graphic card and cybergfx is a graphic driver package!
So there's no comparaisons between the two!!
The choice between cybergfx or P96 depends on the graphic card you use.
But, I found cybergfx being more compatible, as all the applications are
cybergfx compatible but P96 isn't totally cybergfx compatible.
Bye.
