Subject: [IML] QUEST: Light types + Transpar texture

Could some-one please explain the difference between 'Controlled Y Fall
off' and 'Diminishing Intensity' please? I can't seem to find much help
from the FAQ or Dare 2 Imagine.
Also what does the 'Transpar' texture do? In my tests it seems it is
necessary to make the shadow of a transparent object show the effects of
a bump texture on the object (i.e. a change in the shadow colour). Why
is this necessary?
Thanks,

George, have you taken a look at Blaq's Amazing Light Falloff Graph at
this address?

Ho George,

Diminish Intensity erm..., Diminishes the Intensity of the light.
put simply, the further away an object is from the Light, the less
illuminated it will be. There is a formula for exacting how much a
light of a certain value will diminish over distance, but it escapes
me atm.

Control Fallof simply bounds the light to the Objects Y axis. Objects
outside the Y radius will not be hit my the light.

I've no Idea about the transpara texture. I don't recall if I ever
used it. . .

Well, 'Controlled Y Fall-off' allows you to specify (or control) the
fall-off for a given light based on the length of that light's Y-axis.

'Diminishing Intensity' controls the fall-off based on a given distance
from the light source. I forget the exact distance, though, but I believe
the value is adjusted logarithmically.

[IML] QUEST: Light types + Transpar texture -Reply gets dragged on once more......

For every 256 units the light is away from an object, the light is
reduced by ¼, very useful

Thanks to everyone who helped me with my lighting problem. I now
understand all the lighting methods well (the two that I have anyway
;)).
