Date: Mon, 9 Jan 1978 02:40:06 -0000 From: Stephen Thornber Subject: [IML] Quest: Question Time..! Hi guys. Heres some questions for you... 1 - Is there any difference in the image quality between Imagine 3 and Imagine 5 (Amiga) ? (I find it easier to work in V3 than V5, I just wondered if my render quality would be less than it would be if I used v5.???) Date: Fri, 29 May 1998 19:26:14 +0100 From: Matthew O'Neill Organization: Spectrum As far as I know the quality is the same. What is different about version 3 and 5's GUI ? the *only* difference that I can find is the way you rotate the perspective view. 5 has newmode which is /very/ helpful. 2 - Does anyone use Real3D v2/v3? (A guy at my local Amiga Club raves about R3D and some of his pics are cool (DOF is verrry nice indeed), I just wondered if someone on the IML had an unbiased review of R3D for me..?) (ie, whats good, whats bad.. etc) Date: Fri, 29 May 1998 19:26:14 +0100 From: Matthew O'Neill Organization: Spectrum Imagine for miggy has DOF as well, have a look for it. 3 - How do I map a decal onto a glass...? (I've tried and tried, but I can't quite get it right..) Date: Fri, 29 May 1998 00:29:30 +0400 From: Charles Blaquiere The decal is opaque, the glass is transparent. This means you must make a copy of your decal brushmap, with the decal black and the background white (or almost white -- the colour you used in the object's Filter attribute). Then duplicate the brushmap entry in the object's texture/brushmap list, change its filename to point to the new transparency brushmap image, and change its brushmap mode to Filter. If you want to get fancy, you can add a third copy of the brushmap, this time in Specular mode, with an appropriate image; this would allow your decal to show a different specular highlight than the glass, to further give the impression of a paper label. (I've got a cigarette in an ashtray and I want a nice stream of smoke coming from it. I've modelled the shape of the smoke but I can't texture it anything like smoke. even with essence and forge.) (BTW - its for a still only.) Date: Fri, 29 May 1998 19:26:14 +0100 From: Matthew O'Neill Organization: Spectrum Give it a fog length. But honestly if it is for a still then I would use something like photogenics to draw in the smoke afterwards, much easier. Thats all (for now.) ----------------------------------
