But it does kinda look abit outdated these days compared to other operating systems. So I had a look round to see what other icon collections were out there and I found the rather great "NewIcons" collection. I installed it and it`s great. Only one problem though. With magic workbench you get a really neat utility called "IconUpdate" You basically drop an icon to it, then drop another icon onto it and it copied the image from the first icon to the seconds one. Great! It has a few problems though, these are: 1) does not support copying newicons 2) if the destination file does not have a .info it does not work. 3) If you want to update a load of icons you have to keep dragging and dropping the first icon and the destination icon for each of the icons you wish to update New icons comes with a command line program to copy a newicon image from one icon to another but it's a CLI based program. I also found another utility that copies the normal icon and the newicon from one icon to another but that too was CLI based. I wanted the functionality of the two Cli programs but with the userfriendlyness of UpdateIcon but without it's limitations. Here's where my program comes in! With this program you can drag an icon into the "Source" box, then drag one or more icons (at a time or individually) to the "Dest" box and using the check boxes to the right control what images are copied from from the source icon (Normal and/or NewIcon). @EndNode @Node Requirements "Requirements" Requirements ============ An Amiga with kickstart 3.0 or better (see notes) NewIcons installed. Icons that need updating :-) Notes: I wrote this program on an A4000T with WB3.1 and have not tested it on any other systems except my A3000 also with 3.1 It should work down to 3.0 and maybe 2.04. If it does could someone e-mail @{"me" link Author} and let me know please. @EndNode @Node Installation "Installation" Installation ============ Use the supplied installer script or follow the procedure below. Manual Installation =================== Copy the files "UpdateNewIcon" and "UpdateNewIcon.Guide" using the workbench to a folder of your choice. That's it. @EndNode @Node Usage "Usage" Usage ===== Start the program by double clicking it from Workbench When it has loaded you'll get a small window with the following items on it: A Box on the left, labelled "Source" A box in the middle, labelled "Dest" Some options, labelled "Options" :-) The options are: Copy Normal Copy NewIcon Verbose And a button labelled "Help" To use the program, drag an icon from somewhere on your system to the box on the left (Source). The Icon image should appear in the box if it is small enough to fit, if it's not small enough to fit you'll see an exclamation mark in the box instead. Now drag one or more other icons (at the same time or individually) to the box in the middle (Dest) and the icon image in the Source box will be copied to all the icons you drag into the Dest box. If you keep clicking the Icon in the Source box it will cycle through the four icon images, that is: NI Normal, NI Selected, Normal, Selected. If the image to be displayed is not present in the icon (i.e. It has no newicon image and/or maybe no Selected image the message "NoImage" will appear in the box. If you enable the "Verbose" check box you'll see information about what it happening to the icons as you drag and drop icons to the window. You can use the "Copy Normal" checkbox to determine whether the program should copy the normal icon image (i.e. the icon you'd see without newicons enabled) from the source to the destination icons. Likewise you can use the "Copy NewIcon" to control whether the program should copy the NewIcon image from the source to the destination icons. Normally you'd want to leave both the "Copy Normal" and "Copy NewIcon" options enabled (Default). Notes ===== It will only display icons less than 64 pixels wide and high in the boxes if the image is too large you'll just get a ! in the middle of the box. If you are updating a draw icon the directory needs to exist for the source icon. This is a workbench bug/feature, an appwindow message does not even get sent to the appwindow! If NewIcons has assigned an icon to a device by itself (without there being a corresponding disk.info) it is impossible to get the correct icon. If the icon you are dropping onto the source box is a Disk type and is not in the root of a drive with the name of disk.info an appmessage does not get sent to the appwindow! @EndNode @Node Distribution "Distribution" Distribution ============ This program may be included on BBS's, Web Sites, Archive Sites (e.g. Aminet) and any storage media you like (even punch tape :-) You may NOT modify and redistribute any of the files that make up this program without my permission. The source code is provided for reference only. Feel free to learn from it if you like. If you use sections of my code (unalterd or not) then please credit me somewhere in your program and let me know via @{"e-mail" link Author}. @EndNode @Node Registration "Registration" Registration ============ This program is shareware, if you install it on your system you must send me œ5 UK Pounds, $10 US Dollars or 20DM. Cash is the only payment accepted from countries other than the UK. Send the registration money to @{"me" link Author} via Recorded/Registered post. Although this program is shareware nothing is disabled or cut down at all. The only incentive you have to send me some cash is the knowledge that the money will be spent on more computer stuff to enable me to write even more great programs like this one! @EndNode @Node Author "Author" Author ====== This program was written by Dominic Clifton - aka Hydra^cP! AFCopy - A neat and small file manager program Associate - A kewl utility to assign icons to files that don`t have icons. Based on name or content matching. Just updated for NewIcons support. X-Mash - Disk compressor using XPK (similar DMS but using an IFF file format) I've also codes stuff for the PC too but I shan't go into that here! :-) I work as a Systems Administrator/System Support. Which basically means I fix software problems on PC's and build/design/install new ones. Not very exciting at all and I'd rather be using Amiga's at work, but hey, it pays for my sports car (http://www.dsltd.force9.co.uk/cars) If there are any Amiga companies out there looking for a developer then give me a shout.
