Introduction.

  Firstly, sorry no guide but I'm feelin kinda lazy today :^)

  TopazPatch  is yet another program that will enable you to use
a  prefered  font  in  place  of topaz font (arghhh.  I hear you
scream, not another one).  You might find this program useful if
you  do  not  use MCP or other commodities that have a "notopaz"
feature  like  my  favourite  commodity, MultiCX v2.80 by Martin
Berndt.   MultiCX  is far more freindly to the system than other
such  commodities.   It  can  be  found in util/cdity on AmiNet,
though you should be warned that V2.80 is crippleware.  FreeWare
Forever!!  :^)

  TopazPatch  is  based on OneFont v37.2 by Jan Skypala.  It was
nice  of  him  to  include  the  ASM  source to the patch in his
archive.   TopazPatch  is  far more powerful than OneFont and is
slightly  more bug-free than OneFont.  Changes and bug-fixes are
as follows...

-  OneFont  had  to  be  assembled  every time you wanted to use
another  font.   TopazPatch  comes  with  it's  own  preferences
program  (complete with a GadTools Graphic User Interface).  You
only  need  to  start  the  patch  and  then can change the font
whenever you like.

-  OneFont  had  a  nasty bug where it would modify the TextAttr
structure  supplied  to  OpenDiskFont()  and  OpenFont().   This
strange   behaviour   can   cause   some  programs  to  function
incorrectly,  the  most  noticable  one being ReqTools libraries
font  requesters.   TopazPatch simply passes the afforementioned
library  functions  it's  own  embedded TextAttr which fixes the
problem.

Installing TopazPatch.

  For  auto installation use the included installer script.  For
manual installation...

- copy TopazPatch to C: or somewhere in your path.
- copy TopazPrefs and assiciated .info file to SYS:Prefs.
- edit S:User-Startup to call TopazPatch.

Using TopazPatch.

  After installation you can either run TopazPrefs or reset (the
windoze  way)  and run it that way (TopazPatch will be run every
time you reset).  TopazPatch will write it's default config file
if  it  cannot  load it when it starts.  At any time you can run
TopazPrefs  and select another font to use.  TopazPrefs will set
the newly selected font in the patch code as well.

  Don't  be  alarmed if when you first run TopazPatch that topaz
font  is  still  being  used  because  this  is the default font
TopazPatch  uses  since  it's  the  only  font  gauranteed to be
present  in  the  Amiga  Os (me thinks).  Just run TopazPrefs to
change to a better one.

Start TopazPatch ONLY when ENVARC: and ENV: are BOTH present!!

  - first public release

prefs v1.1 (21.2.1998)

  - Fixed  small  problem that caused prefs  program to hog more
    CPU  time  than  it should.  It was really a bug in GTASMGen
    that was generating the offending code.

patch v1.1 (26/2/1998)

  - TopazPatch  was  not  working  correctly with  other peoples
    Amigas.   The  problem  was  that  Openfont()  cannot open a
    diskfont.   Since  my  system  font was the same one as I am
    using for TopazPatch, the font was opening and the patch was
    working fine on my Amiga.  Now TopazPatch will open the font
    when launched so it is available to be Openfont()'ed.

prefs v1.2 (26/2/1998)

  - The  prefs  program  will close the font and open a  new one
    when needed.

  Yawn...  mabye I'll make some better documentation if there is
ever another version of TopazPatch.

  Yup,  I  know  I  was going to make a better doc, but this one
seems  to  be  quite  adequate.   I have had no reports that you
couldn't understand it, just bug reports :^(
