 Once upon a time I wanted to know what part of a day I spend in front
of  my  monitor.   I  searched  a few CD-Roms (e.g.  Aminet) and found
nothing  interesting,  so I decided to write such a program myself.  I
was  happy  only  for  a  while...  I wanted something more :) I added
graphs  ,  MUI-based  interface, MultiUser's support, localisation and
now I can say that DailyUp looks like the Amiga program should (but it
does  not  mean  it  couldn't  be better...).  The program works quite
good, but there are probably some small bugs that wait for occasion to
show off...

Version 1.20 of DailyUp (compared with 1.19) have an important change:
it supports MultiUser.  It ensures security of our data-nobody without
our  knowledge  change or even deliberately (!) delete them.  Usage of
MultiUser  in  DailyUp  causes  that  every  user  has an own log file
containing  information  about  time  spent  in  a system.  It exludes
situation  when  times of usage of a computer by each of the users are
cumulated.

If  DailyUp  (at  the  start) detects multiuser.library it will run in
MultiUser mode.  If not-it will work as previous versions.  It's vital
information  that in MultiUser mode the program can be run ONLY by the
supervisor  (root).   It  is  caused  by  multiuser.library.   In that
(MultiUser)  mode a password is required to read supervisor's log.  In
next  versions  of library the author is going to add a possibility of
checking  every  (not only root's) password-it will allow user to read
only an own log.

If  DailyUp  works  in  normal  mode,  username  is automaticly set to
'root'.   You can change it using environmental variable USERNAME, for
example:

Now you are John Smith for the program... ;)

Installation is very easy:  simply copy DailyUp file to any drawer and
add it to the startup-sequence, e.g.

run >nil: c:dailyup >nil:

When you do this the program will run at every start of the system and
will  write  actual  time  counter data to a file every 60 sec.  (it's
optional,  so  you  can change it).  Also, when run for the first time
every day, the program can (if we want it) display time spent with our
Amiga  a day before and calculate arithmetical average of a last month
and global time (since installation).

When DailyUp works we can use two hotkeys (you can redefine them).  The
first  one  quits  the  program  and the second one displays the window
containing information about time spent with computer each day.

You can use the following options when DailyUp is run from WB:
CX_PRI     - it's commodities' priority-if you don't know it, simply do
             not change it.
CX_POPKEY  - you can set here what combination of keys will display info
             window.
CX_QUITKEY - you can set here what combination of keys will remove
             DailyUp from your computer's memory.

These otions are (after installation) set to:
CX_POPKEY  = ctrl lalt s
CX_QUITKEY = ctrl lalt q

Hotkeys  can  be  easily  defined  using preferences-open preferences'
window,  choose  exact  popup gadget and (in next window) activate the
'Scan'  option.   Now press a combination of keys you want to use as a
hotkey.    It'll   be  stored  and  become  the  hotkey  after  saving
configuration and restarting DailyUp.

When  you  press CX_POPKEY hotkey, the main window of the program will
be displayed.  It helps you to control the whole program.

The  main part of the window is used by ListView gadget.  You can find
there  all  records  kept by the program.  In that window you can also
find  three  gadgets used for changing the window contest.  The 'Main'
is for showing described ListView gadged and all the days records, the
'Graphs'  is  used  for  the  graphic  interpretation  of the data and
'Preferences' is for preferences (of course).

******************************** Main ********************************

There  are  two  gadgets on the top of the window.  The first from the
left  is  used  for  changing  the user whom logs should be displayed,
while  the second one helps you to choose month which logs you want to
display.   Below  you  can  find the information about time spent with
your  computer  that  day  and  the  average of the last month and the
global average.

Next  to  these gadgets there are also:  close gadget (but it does not
quit DailyUp) and gadget which display information about the program.

In pull down menu you can find more options:
Save List As... - it allows you to save the list to a plain text file.
Print List... - it prints the list (it's not tested yet-I haven't got
 a printer...)
About... - no comments.
About MUI... - as above.
Hide  -  hides the program; it means that it closes the window and you
 can  reopen  it  using  the exact combination of the keys (CX_POPKEY).
Quit - remove DailyUp from the memory.



****************************** GRAPHS ********************************


The top most gadget allows to change the type of the graph (you can
choose three different kinds).

The  first one shows a curve of the time spent with your computer.  It
also  displays  the second curve-it shows changes of an average of the
current month.

The  second  type  (Logins&Logouts)  displays  dates  of  turning your
computer on and off.

The third type shows the same thing as the first one but here bars are
used.  It's said that bars are better for that type of data (isn't it,
Krashan?   ;).   You  can  also  notice the curve here-it (like in the
first one) shows changes of an average.

Colours of graphs can be changed in preferences.

************************* PREFERENCES ********************************

In this menu you can find some set-up options.

* Delay  Secs-it sets a period between saves of time counter to a log
  file.

* Show hotkey, Quit hotkey-it is used to redefine the hotkeys.

* Directory  when log files should be saved (it's set to S:  but some
  people may want to change it).

* Daily Reports-it causes that the requester with the data from a day
  before will appear (or it won't if it's inactive).

* Option that allows you to decide whether superuser's log should be
  displayed at the start or not.  This option is active only if you
  use MultiUser system and it causes that users can see only their own
  logs (you can find more about it in the other part of this guide).

* Ask for password-using this options you can decide if the program
  demands a password to display root's logs or not.

* Option that allow you to display ALL the days in the ListView gadget
  (even if system hasn't been used).

* Option used for changing colours of the graphs.

* The last one saves preferences.

Well, and that's all about options of DailyUp.

DailyUp  requires battery backed clock in your Amiga.  It is of course
possible  to  set  the  exact  date and time manualy at every system's
start  but  it  would  be  crazy.  The program has other (but minimal)
requirements:   KS 3.0+, installed MUI library, several dozen of KB of
a free memory and hard disk (not really necessary).

The program has been tested on:

Amiga 1200 with 030/40MHz procesor, 8MB fast, HD, KS 3.0 and 3.1
Amiga 1200 with 040/40MHz procesor, 16MB fast, HD, KS 3.0 and 3.1

so,  if  DailyUp  refuses to cooperate with your Amiga-let me know and
describe what's wrong (you can find my address somewhere it this file).

As mentioned before, installation is very easy-just copy the main file
(DailyUp)  wherever you want and  run it using  startup-sequence and
'run <>nil:' command.

If you haven't got popxxx classes installed you must first install it.

asl.library  and  intuition.library (back to the sources !).  Improved
charts and the program reaction for New Year (it's not going to have a
party ;)).

1.17 97-Nov-11 - A few small bugs removed as well as additional proce-
dure-charts  are  more precise now, a possibility of changing a disk's
validation is highly reduced

1.18 04-Feb-98 - A lot of things improved: problems with 'Quit' option
(DailyUp  used  to suspend itself), 'Logins&Logouts' charts, delays in
reactions for hotkeys pressed and some more.  Added:  new preferences'
window,   columns   in  ListView  gadget,  memory's  allocation  using
LibAllocPooled(), time displayed in minutes and seconds (before it was
as a fraction), new type of graph (bars)...

1.19 15-Feb-98 - Added possibility of choosing the directory for log
files (now it can be stored not only in S:), iconification improved as
well as location of an objects in preferences window.

1.19 22-Feb-98 - Removed a bug that caused errors in an average of a
week on charts, major commodities' modification, own system is created
at  the  start  of the program and than, it's replaced by MUI based-it
saves  memory  (there's no need to load MUI), one bug removed-it could
cause  a  lot  of troubles..., ToFile() procedure improved (it used to
delete  file  indicator  and reset the system-it should be fp=0 but it
was fh=0).

1.20 05-Apr-98 - Added MultiUser's support and localisation, improved
(once  again)  procedure used to create the list of days which is used
to   create   charts   (I  hope  it's  OK  now  ;),  GUI  changed-used
RegisterGroup  which allowed to use one window instead of three, added
grid in charts' window, changed the way of month's selection.
