IQuotation Version 2.0

What is it?

IQuotation is a simple program which selects a random quotation from a pre-formatted file of quotations.

What are the program requirements?

An Amiga (you can pick your processor from the 4 provided), running OS 2.x or higher.

WARNING: this program has only been tested by me on my Amiga 500 running with a GVP A530 under OS 3.1. But the program doesn't use anything peculiar to OS 3.x. You must understand that you cannot hold me liable for any damage to your computer. The program is free, and you get what you pay for.

How do I use it?

Make sure a properly-formatted file named Quotes.txt is in your S: directory, and just double-click on the icon.

What if I want to use it from a shell?

Fine, just type "IQuotation" from a shell prompt.

Don't I have any options?

Sure: if you want to use a different filename, change the 
FILENAME
tooltype to that file. If you prefer the shell interface, type "IQuotation FILENAME=". It really couldn't be simpler.

How do I make my own quotation files?

Very easily. The first line of the files should have the number of quotes in the file. The next line should be a tilde (~). Then you put your quote in, ending it with a tilde (~). Continue in this quote-tilde-quote-tilde fashion until you're done!

I should probably mention that I shamelessly stole this format from the program "Quotation" whose author I have forgotten. (Nice program, though. I use it.)

Who are you, anyway?

I am John Perry, a seminarian for the Catholic Church of Richmond, VA. (Yes, Roman Catholic.) I am in 1st Theology and I haven't programmed in a while. This was a lot of fun, even though it was really hard because I don't have any of my programming books with me. I think that goes to show the power and brilliance of the Amiga OS design!

Then again, this IS a dinky program.

I move around every few years (as I write it is September 1998) so I can't guarantee you'll hear back, but I do reply to all my email. I wrote a special version of MidToFront a while back for one guy. (I was delighted to see that MidToFront is still on Aminet!)
