I have no probs, but i have tested it.

SnoopDos says, FW is searching for swpost.library and for init.ps.

I renamed the file FWFiles/init.ps, and FW acts like you described.

ergo: it seems that FW does not find FWFiles/init.ps, or the file is corrupt.

(read the last few lines of init.ps, it is a ascii-file)

Matthias, did you get FW97 as uan up-date, if so make shure you have all
the correct discs, which may go back to version 2. I installed a new HD a few
months ago and did not encounter any problems.

Hi Heiko!

You can't display eps files without Preview. That's clear, i think.
BUT besides you CAN'T print it on non-Postscript-Printers, because FW and
PGS won't decode or interpret this files. Only an PS-Printer will translate
these files to printable graphics.

Another solution: USE ghostscript to convert it to bitmap graphics or print
it directly to your non-postscript printer.

Hello Dirk,

in reply to the question from Heiko you wrote

I'm not sure if you are right... I just imported an .ps file without inlined
binary preview, just plain ASCII postscript code and it worked well ! Sure,
you don't get a preview in that case, but if you switch to "full picture"
(Vollabbild is the german word) FW is displaying it without any problems
(after some time of waiting...). And printing also works well even on my
non postscript printer ! So FW must have an interpreter for PS code.
E.g. just try to import the tiger.ps from the ghostscript distribution
(/examples).

Comments are welcome.

Bye Christian

PS: I'm using FW 97, but that shouldn't matter so much, because FW came with
EPS support just from the beginning (at least since FW2).

THAT`S WRONG !!!!!!
I`m using EPS without preview because the memory amount
is to high ( example : schematics from chip circuit ca. 1 MB preview, 50 kB
 drawing )

>BUT besides you CAN'T print it on non-Postscript-Printers, because FW and

No, FW decodes ( interprets ) Postscript files. That is a fact. I tested it,
while
I programmed some Postscript files, yes Postscript is graphical language.

>Only an PS-Printer will translate

Only if you use the Postscript output from FW. All Postscript files are
printed
correct if you use a normal printer driver.

That`s is a good solution when your postscript files are very big. If you use
landscape format then it is much faster ( ca 10x ) than normal printing ( I
wrote a
simple AREXX file to do this directly from FW )

Does anyone knows HOW TO IMPORT .PS or .EPS FILES I made using
"DrawStudio => EXPORT AS POSTSCRITPT FILE" option!? It works great in
FinalWriter but - I CAN NOT LOAD that EPS FILE(s) IN PAGE STREAM3.3 :((

What to do!?!?

Ok, you're right. There is a small ps-interpreter in FW. But try perhaps an
ps file for a din-a4 page with full gfx (500 kb). Then you can wait and wait
and wait on an 030. The tiger.ps is a very little pic.

Aautsch. Sorry for my wrong answer. But til now i have used only very big ps
files and so i have had many problems with it in FW.

This things i meant. The printing solution over ghostscript are better. On
my system bigger ps files won't printed correctly with FW. Theoretically
this must work, but not practically.

I`m not using Pagestream, but perhaps there is a solution. First export your
Postscript
File normaly from Drawstudio. Then use pstoedit to convert it to FIG ( I don`t
know
wether Pagestream can import or not ) and then Metaview to convert FIG to
ILBM, AMF, CGM, GEM, DR2D, HPGL, EPS, AI, JMF or WMF.
I hope that Pagestream is able to import some of the fileformats above.

Greetings Arndt.

Here in my town there are many CDs with clipart graphics...

But - they are ALL in .CDR format :( Not even in EPS...

Is it possible in ANY way to load/import CorelDRAW files on Amiga!?!?

Any converters?

I know for that but when I want to make ALL PAGES with margins like this:

Leftmargin = 3 CM and right = 1

I got reversed margins even when I enable

RIGHT ONLY option in "Page Setup"/pages

Pretty strange bug... :(

Thanx but I have tried. I got EPS but a little corrupted :(

For example: If I type for example a word in DrawStudio and fill it
with GRADIENT, when export as EPS and convert etc etc... and import
it directly to PageStream - I can't see gradient... The problem is
in DIFFERENT EPS files... Some EPSs CAN'T handle gradient...

Huh...

And I have used arrex script from META VIEW called "PageStreamIMPORT"
and it also CAN'T import draw studio's files with gradient...

If you have any more suggestion - I'll be very happy :)

Well I wrote the same document from stratch in PageStream3 with imported
EPSs from MathScript so I can't say this tip will work with FinalWriter97.

Anyway - I use "RIGHT ONLY" on the document but still getting
reversed margins...

This must be a bug... or I'm an idiot 8)

I don't have problems with side margins, only with top (and ergo bottom).
Of course, I only use American units or picas for measuring, not cm. Maybe
try using different units and see if that helps.

Are you using Amiga printer drivers or some other? You may want to fiddle
with the graphics preferences in the printer driver, like turn centering
off.

Perhaps this tool is the cause of your problem.

Hi,

at the moment i'm creating the new Final Writer WebSite
(http://surf.to/finalwriter)
Probably I've found the solution for the EPS problem on screen and print.
Try this from Aminet:

file: FWEP_Spatch.lha
directory: text/print
Size: 2K
Description: Patch FW to show and print EPS graphics

I haven't tried it out.
Check it out.

Bye Heiko

Yes, but this is not a problem of EPS, it`s a problem of DrawStudio. You can
see it if you are using the preview option Postscript in DrawStudio. Then all
gradients are gone....

I think it is the same problem.

Did anyone know this strange bug : If you exported from Drawstudio a dished
line in EPS. FW will chrash if you try to import this little drawing.

I hope these questions are not a repeat.

1: What happened to Softwood?

3: (what about Final Calc?)

4: Is there a Final Calc mail list too?

Thanks.....

For me there are only 2 reasons to use FinalWriter.
1> It runs on an Amiga, I don't need to turn on a PC.
2> It handles PostScript better than either MS-Word or WordPerfect.

Most of my EPS files are either hand written with an editor, or produced by a
graphics program called psgraph which I wrote. This program is available on my
website, at
http://people.ne.mediaone.net/hwollman/software/psgraph.html

In either case the logic of the image is relatively simple, just lines, symbles,
or text at specified coordinates, and FinalWriter does a good job of importing and
displaying them. None of my images ever have a preview, except for rare cases
where someone MUST see them on a Mac.

Because of this thread, I tried to import into FinalWriter an extremely complex
(but small) image, called hat.ps. This is a file which is only 22 KBytes long, 13
KBytes of which is a 2 dimensional array of numbers. However, the Postscript
interpreter must transform it into a three dimensional object, with arbitrary
viewing angles, contour color mapping, and hidden line removal. Post requires
about 40 seconds on my (extremely fast) Amiga (A2000 with a 30MHz MC68040 Fusion
40). FinalWriter chokes completely. It produces a blank graphics object, with
just the 8 handles.
I suspect that the trouble is caused by the multiple layers of coordinate matrix
transforms.

Billy, I am curious what the problems with the top and bottom is, that you seem
to have. The type of ruler used should have no influence on the margins. It
starts with the page margins, which again depends on the printer used and what
page feed is used. The edit margin has to be equal or greater to the page
margin. I can't see a connection to the graphics driver to the problem at hand.

Greetings
Johann

Strange.. It works normally here... Try to reinstall whole FW97 again. Once I
experienced
very strange bug... My DrawStudio2 couldn't show pictures in preview window
when load them...
I couldn't find the problem and I reinstall whole DS again... And - it worked
again! :))

Maybe I had a virus who corrupted me some files?

Nobody kows...

I print a lot of video labels, and the text has to be *precisely*
positioned. Using an HP 660C and Studio Printer, I still have to
adjust my screen representation of the text by 1/16" downward to get it to
go
exactly where I want it on the paper. No matter what settings I use in
Studio or FW, the output will not go where the screen says it should.

Agreed, mostly. See below.

FW printing is basically a graphic dump. If it was a text print, it would
use the printer's fonts. That's what the draft option in FW is, printer
fonts. This may not be your problem, but go to the Amiga's graphics printer
preferences and make sure "Center Picture" is turned off, and "Limits -
Type" = ignore. If those are the settings you have, just for giggles, you
may want to change them to see if it helps.

Billy

Third menupoint from the left, 8. item, in german "Darstellungsart". There are
different types to choose, Postscript view for example or full view, etc.

Good questions! I wouldn't mind knowing whatever happened to Softwood
myself. Have you been at Softwood's Web site? (http://www.softwood.com) Beyond
that, there's the URL referred to on the mailing list's taglines, although I
haven't been there yet:

Your memtion of video lable printing touches on my own frustrations. I
finally got video lable printing somewhat under control, after many trials and
errors. I alway hope, there is a good soul out there writing a video lable
program for FW. In any event I finally resorted to text frames to get the text
placement where it should on the lable. I am using 8 1/2 X 11.0 sheets with six
spine labels and six face labels. Two spine, two two face, two spine, two face
etc.

I am using a printer driver DJHELPER TWO by Creative Focus. It has 4
interactive modules for 'Set up'; 'Text'; 'Fonts'; and 'Graphics'.
The Amiga printer prefs are not in use.

How do you handle the video labels on you page set up? There is one other
observation I made, the paper for the labels is rather slick, compared to
regular paper and may introduce some slippage. Also, let's say I have printed the
four top most labels and I want to print the two lower ones on the page, I make
darn sure there are at least text frame on the upper ones, so the printer will
do line feeds. If not, the alignment is shot.

Keep me posted I you care to

I've sent several emails to Softwood, and to a couple of people with
Softwood with whom I've corresponded in the past. I've received absolutely
no reply.

I tried info@softwood.com
and Terry Wright at terry@softwood.com

Maybe someone else will have better luck.

William, for end notes to print, you must create an endnote section from the
section menue. Works for me. If you have done so, I am afraid I can't help you
with the print problem.

Their home page seems ok, but when I mail to fwsupport@.... I don't get a reply,
and I am also asking for help with Final Calc....

Has anyone else tried to use their (Softwood's) help e-mail addresses and got a reply
recently?

Well -- maybe with them. With electronic mail being mostly "instant", I don't
see any reason for them not to reply within 24 hours. I always thought
long-delayed replies to email were a very poor way to run a business. But I
guess with the low volume of sales towards the end they relegated the product
support to a "hobby" level. :( I wonder if Final Writer for Windows '95 ever
sold many copies. If that did well they'd have enough business to keep the
company going. They may have finally just given up on continuing.

It's funny, though -- if the Amiga starts getting popular again and does
well, people will appear everywhere and say "we've been here for the Amiga since
the early days!" :)

Has anyone tried calling them? I've thought about it but just never seem to
get around
to it. I know they have (or had) a customer service number because I did
use it once

You could try using RTF format, but word6 has a "better"/"Bigger" RTF format that
Final Writer doesn't support. :-(

Hi,

I had a Fax sent to me the other day I used GPFax to download it. I needed to fill some parts in on the fax and send it back. I could not use Final Writer (v5.03) to fill in the details and send it back. When I saved the fax as an IFF file FW would not read it (if opened as a document)it was all rubbish but OK as a Object. So I had to print it out, fill in the details by hand, scan it and use FW to load it in to GPFax. This seems very long winded. Is it possible to type in the fax with out printing it out then send/fax it back

                  Cheers all the best

Yeah, but I have downloaded a bunch of files already in W6 format to the ami,
and to copy them over to the PeeCee and then convert them would be more
trouble again,,, I just wanted to save myself the effort of putting the
PeeCee back together and moving the printer, etc... ;^)

Matthias and I solved this problem:
There have been old libraries in LIBS:. Newer versions have also been in
Finalwriter/FWLibs.
The problem is, the system scans first for libraries in LIBS:

If it finds the requested libraries no other dirs would be scanned.
So be careful:
Delete all fwlibs in LIBS: and use ONLY the location Finalwriter/FWLibs for
these libs.
An update of FW (or a reinstallation) will also only update the libs there.

I hope I have understood your problem:
You can't open the fax as TEXT but you can import it as an IMAGE.
If you can insert the iff image as an object why don't you use the text
frame function?
With this you can write text over images (text frame without background).
With FinalWriter version below 97 you have to use the text block function
instead.

With this you mustn't print it out and scan it again ;-)

That is the problem..... You saved the fax as an IFF file. I would guess that the
file size was something BIG.

> would not read it (if opened as a document)it was all rubbish but OK as a Object.

Correct. FW does support IFF imports.

My suggestion:

What you do is load it as an IFF image - like you did - but double click on the image
then and chhange the attributes so that you can type over it.

Then you just use the "text box" function to move the text you have typed into the
correct place.

To elaborate on that:

You may have to make a blank page so you can type the details first then block the
text and move it to the correct part of the page....

Hope this helps.

I only said that because the page many become cluttered with text and image. Some
people may be confused with this.

Glad to help.

Hallo,

Oliver
