Mailinglists are Internet emailbased discussion forums that you subscribe and unsubscribe to by sending commands in the subject or body of a message to an emailaddress. It can be quite tedious to keep track of all these addresses and commands, and they are often different from list to list. People are constantly asking for subscribe information, or posting unsubscribe commands to the wrong address. MLManager tries to make it easier for everyone by giving you a nice interface for keeping track of the addresses and the commands and allowing you to subscribe and unsubscribe from this interface. MLManager is freeware, which means that you are allowed to use and distribute it freely if you don't modify any of the included files. The author of MLManager assumes no responsibility for what this program might do, you are using it at your own risk. However, MLManager has of course been tested quite thoroughly and should not cause any problems. Installation ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ Simply copy MLManager, the icon and AmigaLists.MLMan to some directory. A nice place to keep it might be in your THOR/ directory.. MLManager will configure itself and ask you to save the settings the first time you start it. Usage ŻŻŻŻŻ I think MLManager is pretty easy to use, especially if you read the buttonhelptexts, therefore this section will only outline some less obvious things. The main window that opens when you start MLManager contains a list of all configured mailinglists. MLManager comes with a database of about 80 Amiga related mailinglists. The information about these lists was collected from various sources by me and contains several defunct lists. If you encounter any lists that no longer are in operation, or if you collect some additional information, please mail me. I'm NOT going to add any non-Amiga related mailinglists to the default database. There are *thousands* of mailinglists in the Internet, and I have *no* ambition to collect them all. :) You can of course add your own mailinglists to your database as you see fit, that way you won't have to remember how to unsubscribe, MLManager will remember for you. :) When you subscribe to a mailinglist MLManager will create a user in your THOR userdatabase that has the name of the title of the mailinglist and the address that you write to in order to write messages to the mailinglist. MLManager will also add a SortMail trigger and action to your SortMail configuration. SortMail is an arexx script that will sort your mail for you, sorting messages from mailinglists into separate conferences. Check out THOR/Docs/SortMail.guide. MLManager asks you what kind of action to create. An action that moves messages into the conference you enter the name of, or an action that parses an Aminet recent message into your filedatabase. (Both of the above two features can be disabled in the Settings window.) You can edit the mailinglistdata in the database by selecting a mailinglist and pressing the Edit button or by simply doubleclicking a mailinglist. This will open a new window that allows you to edit the data. The strings that go in the subject and the body of the (un)subscribe messages can contain the following three symbols that will be substituted when you subscribe: %a - email address %n - full name \n - newline MLManager will ask you to confirm quitting whenever you try to quit or load a new database without saving the changes you have made to the current database. There are two tooltypes/commandline arguments available that allows you to tell MLManager which database to load and which prefsfile to use.
