1. About STUDIE-8

This is my second "serious" attempt at making a quality "experimental"
MOD.  It is a bit more complex than the first attempt, "felt" which
only used three small samples in the entire piece.  "felt" can be found
in /mods/misc on the Aminet (which is probably where you found this
archive), at http://emrl.com/cmu, or on the emrl.com ftp site in
/pub/noise.

I was originally composing this piece on a Sunrize AD516, but about
25% of the way into it, i realized it would make an acceptable MOD.
The @{"samples" Link "SAMPLES"} were already 8bit, as well.

The piece is about 13 minutes long.

After being dropped from the AD516, It was composed with OctaMED v5,
in 8 channel mode, with the samples halved.  The loss of sound quality
in this particular case was minimal, or at the very least, irrelevant.

2. About the Samples.

This piece is composed of four samples -

   scrape               57.368k
   box_manipulation    212.592k
   proto-synth           6.500k
   proto-bass            9.884k

scrape and box_manipulation were both recorded in the @{"EMRL" Link "EMRL"}
recording studio, using Audition4 and a GVP DSS8 sampler (which gets
surprisingly good results, I might add).  The other two samples were
found on the Aminet (I think) and modified by me to fit this piece.

scrape is a snippet of a CMU rehearsal tape filter and processed beyond
all recognition.

box_manipulation was originally
mic'd with three microphones, and sampled in stereo, then converted to
mono.  It is a recording of a local area DJ thrashing about with a
metal box.
