mhgetty 1.0 beta-4 23-Aug-96 this release was done by Martin Hohl DISCLAIMER: Since this program is distributed freely, there is no warranty, neither implicit nor explicit, for any damages caused by the use of this program. Use it at your own risk ! It has worked for me and some testers since several months now, but if you experience any problems with it, I'll take no responsability (you should back up your data anyway, even if you don't use beta software, right ?). mhgetty originates from faxgetty, programmed by David Varley, Matt Dillon and others. New features: 1) The Modem now is no longer operated in the Autoanswer- Mode (ATS0=1) for UUCP-Operation, but mhgetty uses the "RING" message from the modem. The number of rings, after which mhgetty accepts the call, is still configurable with the same option (-r, = number of rings). 2) mhgetty now writes the connect messages into GETTY:Logfile: (10/09-21:00:51) Getty,-,- Connect-Msg: CONNECT 38400/V.34 28800/V42b/SREJ 3) For the ZyXEL Elite 2864D resp.. ZyXEL Elite 2864 - fax modem mhgetty has some additional new options, the most important one is: -F16 sets the ZyXEL Elite 2864 in fax DRAM buffer mode (AT+FCLASS=Z AT+FZF=3) * Extend Fax bitmap register to Open/Close serial on modem-init * -Fn n=bit-mapped register * bit * 0 = 1 (always set for Fax) * 1 = 0 Set rate to 19200 after +FCO * = 1 Don't set rate to 19200 after +FCO, DCE/DTE locked * 2 = 0 Dont Open/Close serial on modem-init * = 1 Open/Close serial on modem-init * 3 = 0 FCLASS=2 * = 1 FCLASS=2.0 * 4 = 0 FCLASS depends on bit 3 * = 1 FCLASS=Z (ZyXEL E2864 mode) * 5 = 0 if (Bit 4 = 1) AT+FZF=3 (ZyXEL E2864 mode) * = 1 if (Bit 4 = 1) AT+FZF=5 (ZyXEL E2864 mode) * 7 = 1 AT+FCLASS=2+FECM=2+FAA=1 (experimental) * * Issue ATA to ZyXEL E2864 if DRAM buffer contains a fax. * As of firmware v1.11 ZyXEL E2864 disregards S0 setting and uses * RING msg to signal a fax in DRAM buffer to the host. ATTENTION !!! Reliable operation of the FAX DRAM buffer -functions of the ZyXEL E2864(D) is not possible at all with version 1.11 and the previous versions 1.08 - 1.10. In version 1.12 the E2864(D) firmware has a bug, which prevents correct function of mode AT+FZF=5 resp. AT+FZF=3, if the modem is equipped with only 2 MB DRAM buffer. To get rid of this problem you either have to upgrade to v1.13 or add more DRAM (people say that 4 MB DRAM should work). Version 1.13 doesn't support mode AT+FZF=5 correctly at all regardless of how many DRAM you have built in, so the only usable mode for DRAM buffering is AT+FZF=3 for v1.13. Corresponding versions of Elite 2864D and 2864DI firmware: 2864D 2864DI (analog only) (ISDN + analog) 1.12 <--> 2.03 1.13 <--> ? (not yet publicly available as of this writing) Hint for users of AmigaFax: AmigaFax supports receiption of faxes from DRAM buffer of ZyXEL Elite 2864 with "faa -a", even a running mhgetty should not prevent this, since faa seems to support owndevunit.library.
