Amiga 1000 SoftKick Tools by Eirik Risholm (3M) (C) 1995-96 Bensin Software / Psilocybe Productions THERE IS NO WARRANTY WHATSOEVER ON THIS SOFTWARE AND ANY FAILURES OR DAMANGE PHYSICALY OR IN ANY OTHER WAY IS NOT OUR RESPONSIBILITY. IF YOU ACCEPT THESE TERMS THESE PIECES OF SOFTWARE ARE ALL YOURS AND ARE FREELY DISTRIBUTABLE. Requirements A1000 (A500/A2000) with RealFAST at $200000 -> Soft-/Re-/Z-Kicked Kickstart at $200000. For Freekick and recovery of kick a harddisk is almost required although floppy is possible it will be awfully slow. These utilities are made for use on Amiga 1000 computers, the greatest of them all (compare sound and RGB quality, and it's the best). KickReboot and PatchColdReboot will however work on all SoftKick $200000 machines. FreeKICKRAM Utility to free the KickRAM on Amiga1000 models, this memory is only usable every second reset and is then writable by the Amiga1000 BootStrapLoader and when the new kickstart executes a reset the KickRAM is writeprotected. SoftKicks only perform one reset (usually), and the KickRAM is write enabled when the OS3.1 or whatever kickstart is running. So what FreeKICKRAM does is to add this RAM to the freelist, so that it can be used as FAST memory. YOU MUST HAVE REKICKED KICKSTART TO USE THIS UTILITY! StoreKICKRAM Saves Kickstart to the assign FREEKICK: for restore to KICKRAM before reset done by KICKReboot or PatchColdReboot. THIS UTILITY MUST BE RUN BEFORE FREEKICKRAM OR YOU WILL HAVE MEMORY SAVED INTO THE KICKFILE. KICKReboot This utility checks the Kickstart in KICKRAM and if it's not present it will be loaded from FREEKICK:DiskKickstart, and then it does a "Heavy Magic" (as named by Commodore) reboot which makes the computer reset once then use the CoolCapture to start a code which sets up a fake execbase (as the kickstart would do) before it sends control to the Kickstart at $200000. The reset is neccesary because it resets periperal devices such as Harddisks etc. so they can be reinitialized, therefore the old kickstart must be in KickRAM. PatchColdReboot This utility patches the Exec/ColdReboot function so that a call to _LVOColdReboot will do KickReboot instead. Programs use ColdReboot to perform a reset. (if they are legally coded) Because of some reason Exec itself doesn't use this function to reset(???) it bangs on the hardware so a "Software Failure" and "Reset" will crash and ask for KICKDisk. A patch will be made later, both for the magnificent ResetWarning on A1000 Keyboards and a CoolCapture routine for recovering after a crash (not with free KICKRAM though).
