@ENDNODE

@NODE WhatIs "What The Hell Is It ?!?"
What Is Picture Comparison Pro :

PCPro is a program designed to compare two images to see the visual
difference. The idea came about after doing some scanning and having to
alter the many settings. All of the files were saved, then individually
looked at, but which was the best overall ?

To my knowledge there was no such program that would allow you to compare
two picture files, except for DPaint vX.X & PPaint vX.X which would allow
you to load a picture into the main screen and the spare page and use (J)
to toggle between the two. But this is a very memory hungry, and expensive
as PCPro is FREEWARE, way of doing things.

Features :

     · Auto detects the file resolution.
     · The ability to load two pictures of totally different resolutions.
     · Automatic or Pre-set screen Resolutions.
     · Automatic re-loading of files after the resolution has been changed.
     · Delete Option to remove the un-wanted picture.
     · Configurable to how YOU want.

@ENDNODE

@NODE Use "And How Do I Use The Soddin' Program ?"
How To Use Picture Comparison Pro :

At the moment PCPro can only be used via the Workbench. Please See @{" Enhancements " link Enhance}
for more information on additional features, or improvements I would like to
make to the program.

After double clicking on the icon, a window should open at the top of your screen,
roughly in the center. There are various @{" gadgets " link Gadgets} available to you on the main
window, and @{" menus " link Menus} available on the menu bars.

@ENDNODE

@NODE Gadgets "What Do Those Damn Button Things Do ?"
Gadgets :

The main window is split into three basic areas.

A. Screen 1 Details
B. Screen 2 Details
C. Operational Gadgets

For both Screen 1 & 2, the explaination will be the same.

DROPZONE:	This area will allow you to drop a file onto the window. The
file should be dragged from Workbench. Both dropzones can
be used, one for each picture.

Presently, ONLY files can be dropped, not whole directories.

RESOLUTION:	This will allow you to select the screen resolution of the
		picture to load.

           320 x 256: Lo-Res Non-Interlaced (PAL)
           320 x 512: Lo-Res Interlaced (PAL)
           640 x 256: Hi-Res Non-Interlaced (PAL)
           640 x 512: Hi-Res Interlaced (PAL)
          1280 x 256: Super Hi-Res Non-Interlaced (PAL)
          1280 x 512: Super Hi-Res Interlaced (PAL)
AUTO: Automatically Select The Resolution Of The Picture.

The AUTO option works fairly well. So far I have had only one or two files
load incorrectly. The screenmode was correct, but the size of the screen too
small, hence cropping the picture. If this happens, simply change the
resolution gadget to one of the pre-set resolutions.

These are the only screen resolutions currently implemented in PCPro, as I have
had no other way of testing other screen resolutions. Recently, my Beta Testers
have "acquired" ;) multi-sync monitors so I should be able to test other
screen mode / resolutions.

STATUS: This contains the Status Information for the each Screen.

          Empty: No Picture Loaded.
Loading: The Picture Is Being Loaded.
Loaded: The Picture Has Been Loaded.
          Error: An Error Has Occurred.
Deleted / Empty: The Picture Currently Loaded Has Been Deleted - Therefore
		  It Is Also EMPTY.

Next we have the Operational Gadgets Of PCPro.

ABOUT: Displays a window with details of the program, including
the amount of free Chip & Fast RAM available.

PIC INFO:	Displays a window with details of each picture.

QUIT: Quits the program.

LOAD:		Will allow the picture(s) to be loaded. See @{" Configuration " link Config}

SHOW: Will show the picture(s) currently loaded.
If both pictures are loaded, pressing the left mouse button
		will display the second picture.

Press RIGHT mouse button to quit.

@NODE Menus "And As For Those Pesky Menus ..."
Menus:

PROJECT : This menu contains some controls for PCPro.

LOAD : This is split into 3 options. LOAD PIC 1 will
simply load picture 1 into screen 1, LOAD PIC 2
will load picture 2 into screen 2, and LOAD BOTH
will load 1 and 2 into screen 1 and 2
respectively. The reason for this is incase you
only want to change say, picture 2.

SHOW : This is split into 4 options. SHOW PIC 1,
SHOW PIC 2, SHOW BOTH and SHOW LOADED. These are
all quite self explainatry. SHOW LOADED will
show whichever picture(s) are currently loaded
ie. this could be either picture 1 or 2, or both.

ABOUT : This will show the same information as the ABOUT
		    gadget.

QUIT : This will cause the program to clear its files
from the system and then EXIT.

OPTIONS : The OPTIONS controls for PCPro are here.

CONFIGURATION : Goto the Configuration Section.

PICTURE INFO : Opens The Picture Information Window.
DELETE : Allows You To Delete Either Of The Pictures Loaded.

@ENDNODE

@NODE Config "Set Me Up However You Like ??"

The options currently available are:

	· Save Window Positions
	· Disable LEVEL 1 Error Messages
	· Disable Picture Select Requester
	· Disable Single Picture Mode
	· Disable Close After Cancel
	· Disable Auto-Reload Mode
	· Default Path(s)
        · Default Resolution

                      Default Setting Are In Brackets

SAVE WINDOW POSITIONS: (NOT CHECKED)

This option will allow you to save the current window positions. This will
mean that the windows will always open in the same place each time you load
the program. It will only save the MAIN window positions, IE the error
requester position will not be saved.

Once you have selected this (IE Ticked the checkbox), select SAVE from the
menu. The current window positions will be saved. Next time you load PCPro
the windows will open in the saved position. This checkbox will NOT remain
ticked after the configuration has been closed.

DISABLE LEVEL 1 ERROR MESSAGES: (NOT CHECKED)

This option will allow you to Disable certain Error Messages. After using
PCPro for a while, some of the Error Messages can become very irritating.
For this reason, I have included the option to disable the more frequent
messages. (Which I call LEVEL 1 Messages)

DISABLE PICTURE SELECT REQUESTER: (NOT CHECKED)

When you click on LOAD, you will be faced with a requester. This allows
you to either load picture 1 or 2, or both. This can be useful if you
wanted to compare several pictures that were the same, but can once again
become irritating if you want to load many different pictures. Turning
this option ON will disable this reqester, hence ALWAYS loading both
pictures without confirmation.

DISABLED SINGLE PICTURE MODE: (CHECKED)

This option will remove screen 2, efectively leaving you with a picture
viewer. In this mode, you will be able to scroll around the picture when
viewing it. (Not yet implemented)

DISABLE CLOSE AFTER CANCEL: (NOT CHECKED)

This option is to close any already open pictures when any requesters are
or cancelled or any errors occour.

DISABLE AUTO-RELOAD MODE: (NOT CHECKED)

This option will stop files from being automatically re-loaded after the
resolution cycle gadgets have been changed.

DEFAULT PATH(S):

This option allows you to setup the default loading paths for picture 1 and
for picture 2.

DEFAULT RESOLUTION:

Although this option is not in the config window, every time PCPro's config
is saved, the current cycle gadget position is also saved. This can be changed
using the tooltypes, where each number refers to a resolution :

1 PAL: Low Res (320 x 256)
2 PAL: Low Res Laced (320 x 512)
3 PAL: High Res (640 x 256)
4 PAL: High Res Laced (640 x 512) DEFAULT
5 PAL: SuperHigh Res (1280 x 256)
6 PAL: SuperHigh Res Laced (1280 x 512)

@ENDNODE

@NODE Enhance "Nah, It'll Never Work Mate ..!"
Enhancements :

The following enhancements will hopefully be added to Picture Comparison Pro
before too long :

  · Full Data Type Support.

For this option, I have been working in conjuction with Neil Rosenberg.
He has been working on a Data Types Library for Blitz 2, and so far only
partial support for windows has been written. This has not been included
in my program, as I thought that it was pretty useless in its current
     state.

     (15.10.95)
Further to the above information, the Data Types Library for Blitz 2, has
been worked on greatly over the last few months. The library is now almost
complete, and is in Beta test stages. A version of Picture Comparison Pro
has been written implementing the Data Types library. I am pleased to say
that it seems to perform very well, so hopefully a full working version
     will be available soon :)

     (20.12.95)
Neil has now buggered off to Australia for Christmas so as soon as he
returns I hope to visit him at Manchester Uni, and get the latest version
     of the Data Types library.

     (26.01.96)
OK. Neil is back, and I've visited him in Manchester. I have got the Data
Types code, and after correcting and generally cleaning up the code I hope
to add it. A new version of PCPro will be released, ie. not version 1.00
but this probably will not be released for quite a while. If I decide to go
Shareware then the evaluation version - ie. non-registered, will only have
     ILBM support WITHOUT datatype compatibility.

     (03.02.96 - 04.02.96)
After playing around with the DataTypes code, I have managed to load various
pictures including JPEG - via JFIF DataType, GIF & IFF without any problems.
Presently the code for both the DataType Library & PCPro DT Deluxe (!?) are
in NO fit state to be released so don't expect to see them too soon ! As soon
as I have managed to iron out any bugs in the Library, and then cleaned up
PCPro, I will release some BETA versions. The Library currently loads the
datatype object & sticks it on a bitmap. There is no error checking - and yes
it does crash .. often ! :( I am looking at this, and hope to find and
correct the problems ! More news as I get it. Dave ;)

  · CLI Operation.

CLI Operation should allow PCPro to be used from programs such as Directory
Opus. All of the GUI options should be implemented into the CLI template.

     (09.01.96)
I've started to look into this. If it is really required, I can probably add
     it to the code.

  · The Scroll Option For Single Picture Mode.

This option should allow PCPro to operate as a Picture Viewer - yes another
one :) The reason for this option is so that people with limited space, can
dispose of other picture viewers and use PCPro, instead of both ... of course
only if they want to ;)

     (02.02.96 - 04.02.96)
At last, I have played around with this option - yippee ! The datatypes gave me
a reason to look at this, and I now have a FULL scrolling screen ala PPShow !
This is only implemented in my datatype code so far, so it isn't actually in any
version of PCPro. As it is fairly easy and tidy to add, expect yet another
release of version 1.00 very soon, with the added option of scrolling !! The main
problem with this, is that the relevant screen that you wish to scroll, needs to
be selected with the left mouse button. Therefore when compairing two pictures
scrolling around picture 1 is very easy, but picture 2 is nearly impossible. For
this reason, the scrolling option will probably only be available for Single
Picture Mode. In order to show all of the picture when in comparison mode, the
only idea I currently have is to scale down the picture. Well, we will just have
to wait while I decide (or find a way), to get around these problems.

  · Picture Viewer Mode.

Following on from the above point, an option in the configuration maybe added
that puts PCPro straight into a picture viewer mode, hence disposing of the GUI
and just presenting the user with a file selector.

  · On-Line Help

Set up program to call the Guide file when Help is pressed, or selected from the
     menu.

  · Configurable GUI
(As Suggested By : Graeme Lowe)

The suggestion for a configurable GUI, using a prefrences program (?), has been given
to me by Graeme. I'm not to sure about this at the present time as I see no real
reason to configure the GUI - there isn't much to change anyway, is there ?? Anyway,
if enough people want it, I'll do my best to write it !

   · Drop Zone Picture Stacking

This idea has been floating around for some time now, but I could never really think
of a way to sucessfully do this. After asking my program testers, two things have been
suggested. Firstly the picture stacking could be likened to a "paper tray". This is
where loads of paper is stacked up, and each page is dealt with one at a time. Thus
each picture would be a page that would be dealt with after the previous one had been
seen to. This followed on to the next idea that a list of pictures to be shown/compared
could be built up. Two lists, one per screen, could be constructed by selecting files
from the file requester. Once complete, the program could show the files in a variety
of ways. Firstly, picture 1 from list 1 could be compared with picture 1 of list 2. Then
picture 2 of list 1 could be compared with picture 2 of list 2 etc ... Or, picture 1
from list 1 could be compared with pictures 1 to 10 from list 2. The ideas for this
option are fairly endless (as long as I can program them !). Please forward any ideas
and/or views on this to me ASAP. Thanks :)
(Thanks To : Nick Williams For His Ideas)

@ENDNODE

@NODE Problems "Ha Ha, I Knew Something Would Go Wrong !"
Known Problems :

1. Currently, PCPro is fully UNCOMPATIBLE with NTSC Machines.

2. There is no memory checking at the present time. It will be added
later, and is currently down to the Blitz Debugger. As I will be
using the Blitz Data Types Library - which I need to see Neil for
(See @{" Enhancements " link Enhance}), this should include memory
checking, so I won't have to add it independently.

3. Larger the screen size pictures can not be scrolled. I am working
   on this :)

N·E·W P·R·O·B·L·E·M

4. Do NOT change the name of the program from "PCPro" as the config
will not load - also true if the assign is missing ! I hope to be
able to change this as soon as possible :(

I am also looking for a way to activate the screen so that I can
add the scrolling code. The problem is as follows :

Before the picture can be scrolled, I have to click on the screen
to make it current, this means that scrolling two pictures is nearly
impossible, and even just one is a pain as you have to click before
you can scroll. What I want is something like PPShow, just load the
picture, and then scroll with the mouse, no clicking required !

If you can help with this, PLEASE e-mail me and let me know. This
program was written in Blitz Basic, so Blitz code would be very
helpfull, but otherwise whatever you have would be nice :)

Thank You for your support.
