Eclipse presents: -=< EXORCIST! version 1.0 (23 april 1993) >=- (c) 1993 by CFi/Eclipse & B/\Zz/Eclipse Exorcist! is a /X utility that gives you the ability to perform certain operations on uploaded files. Although the most of the operations Exorcist! can perform are also available in another program (NosNUKE by Nosferatu), Exorcist! combines a much higher speed (about 10 times faster than NosNUKE) with a greatly enhanced functionality. Exorcist! for instance supports wildcards, multiple file selection, free-download option, multiple access-level security and many more features. 1. Functions built-in in Exorcist! EXPELLING (nuking) Its main function is to EXPELL files, this means: delete fake uploads, deduct the credits from the uploader and to return credits to the concerning downloaders, also giving you the opportunity to generate a fitting description to the filename in the files-dir. If you specify non-existing files, this option will create these files, making it impossible for someone to upload them. Messages can be send to the uploader, downloaders and (if you're not him) the sysop of the board. AWARDING Another useful option Exorcist! has is AWARDING uploaded files. This means you can multiply the given credits for an upload by a certain number to the uploader, this way awarding him for the upload. Award also gives you the option to append a comment to the upload in the files-dir. FREEING The next very handy option is FREEING files. This way you can make certain uploads free download. A message that the specified files are free-download will be appended in the files dir. RESURRECT This option is only available if you have installed the expelled file protection. If so, this option gives you the opportunity to undo a previous EXPELL on a file. This means the file will be restored, and you can return the deducted credits to the uploader again! COMMENT This option is very easy. By selecting this option, you can just append a one-line comment to the specified files in the files-dir. 2.HOW TO INSTALL EXORCIST! First, Exorcist! uses the U/D-log to find Uploaders/Downloaders. If you have disabled this option, you have to enable it for Exorcist! to work. In this case Exorcist! can only be used on files uploaded AFTER the U/D-log was enabled (You are still able to perform all options, but up and downloaders won't be found anymore, so credits can't be returned or deducted)! Secondly Exorcist! uses about 100k for fast copy/search algorithms besides the original code, so ill-memory-fitted systems can get in trouble. You can place the Exorcist!.x file anywhere you like. Although it's usually put in the to DOORS: assigned directory. This program will look for the following files in the BBS: directory. - BBS:Exorcist!.cfg This is the config file used by Exorcist! To make Exorcist! function properly you'll have to change this file to fit the BBS. If the config files is not available or contains errors then the door won't startup. - BBS:Node{x}/Exorcist!.log This file contains all operations done by the people who have access to use (certain options of) Exorcist! on a certain node. You can use this file to see what exactly happened. You should now make an entry in your SYS.CMD file located in "BBS:Commands/". You must not use any reserved names here. These reserved names can be found in the manual. The entry is: ;--- CUT HERE ----------------- EXORCIST XS001Doors:Exorcist!.x ;--- CUT HERE ----------------- NOTE: You should actually specify a much higher level than 001. It's not recommended to grant everybody access to this door. Instead of EXORCIST you could ofcourse specify any name you want, if you're used to NUKE or FAKE you could for instance specify one of those. If you've not placed Exorcist!.x in the to Doors: assigned directory, you have to specify the path to Exorcist!.x instead. Exorcist! can't be used as a multiple node door, as it exclusively locks certain files. Now you have correctly installed Exorcist!. Please read the following text on the config file to get the door to function exactly like you want it to. 3. CONFIG FILE DESCRIPTION. The following list contains all valid keywords for the exorcist!.cfg file, most of these options are optional, but if you're board differs greatly from the standard /X configuration, you'll have to specify several options. All keywords must be separated by a . Strings must be encaptured by '"' characters (eg. "HELLO", not 'HELLO' or HELLO). SKIPNODE [,,...] Let's you skip certain nodes in the search for the uploader. SIZEMSG <1-8> You can specify upto 8 custom messages here. One of these can be used to replace the filesize in the file listing. DEFAULTSIZEMSG The SIZEMSG that is used when is pressed instead of a number. Default = 0. EXPELLMSG <1-8> You can specify upto 8 custom messages here. One of these can be added to the file listing. DEFAULTEXPELLMSG The USERMSG that is used when is pressed instead of a number. Default = 0. AWARDMSG <1-8> (0 = NONE, 9 = OTHER) You can specify upto 8 award messages here. One of these can be added to the file listing. DEFAULTAWARDMSG The AWARDMSG that is used when is pressed instead of a number. Default = 0. KEEPLOG Specifying this command enables Exorcist! to keep a log file of all actions performed. SENDNOMSG Specifying this command disables Exorcist! to send deduct messages. SYSOPQUIET Specifying this command disables Exorcist! to automatically send a message to the sysop. Normally the message is only send if the sysop is NOT the user. WILDCARDLEVEL Make wildcards restricted to a certain accesslevel. Default = 0 (This means that the standard level to enter the door is used). AWARDLEVEL Set the minimal level required to award files. Default = 0 (This means that the standard level to enter the door is used). FREELEVEL Set the minimal level required to make files freedownload. Default = 0 (This means that the standard level to enter the door is used). RESURRECTLEVEL Set the minimal level required to resurrect (= un-nuke) files. Default = 0 (This means that the standard level to enter the door is used). This option only works in conjunction with the PROTECTFILES keyword! USERDATAPATH Full path including name, where user.data can be found. Default is "BBS:user.data". This option must be specified if you're BBS differs in this with the default, or Exorcist! will not work correctly! PROTECTFILES Specifying this means that Exorcist! will not delete the file that was nuked. It will be moved to it the specified. A directory under the name of the old file is created. This option must be specified to be able to RESURRECT files. REMEMBER: All Expelled files will not be deleted! So you'll have to clean up the directory specified now and then! 4. HOW TO USE EXORCIST! After installing Exorcist!, you can start it like any other door, by typing the specified command, while logged onto you BBS. You will now be able to choose the operation, you want to perform, if your access-level is not high enough for certain operations, these will not be shown or accepted! (See CONFIG FILE DESCRIPTION for the concerning keywords). After you chose an operation, you are asked to enter the filenames you want the operation to take action on. You can enter multiple files here as long as you end with an . IT IS POSSIBLE TO USE WILDCARDS (if enabled at your level) This means you can use the standard *,?,#? etc. in your filenames. After you've specified, Exorcist! will check if the files exist and prompt you to confirm all found files individually. This already is your last chance to abort the operation on a file! It will then if needed search for the uploaders of the files. Now it will clear the screen. And will prompt you for some answers concerning the operation, this will all be quite logical and not neccesary to explain here. After answering all questions per file, Exorcist! will perform the specified operations, and will prompt you for the next file. In case of EXPELL,AWARD & RESURRECT Exorcist! will group the specified files per uploader and will send only one message per uploader to uploader and sysop. 5.THINGS YOU MUST KNOW The following list are things Exorcist! can or cannot do, and will possibly be different from what you expect. (Or differs greatly from NosNUKE.) - Exorcist! creates DIRS to replace the EXPELLED files, as it is impossible to expell, upload or download dirs...so you can't expell a file twice or upload or download it after expelling. - If you use some kind of custom download utility (like FreeLeech), Exorcist! can sometimes not work properly, since these programs tend to corrupt the U/D-log, placing entries twice or even three times! - Also using some custom file-list utilities may cause problems, although this is highly unlikely. If you use a custom file-list utility that is incompatible with Exorcist!, please tell us. (See bottom of doc for Address&Mail.) - Exorcist! will put a comment line to every expelled file (dir) to identify it as an expelled file and not a standard directory. - Exorcist! will not ask for a confirmation for returning credits for each individual downloader, as NosNUKE does. For this only is an annoying and unneccesary function in our opinion. - in Exorcist! Confirm (Y/N) means to confirm the previous input, not to IGNORE it as in NosNUKE. - If you use Exorcist! often and have LOG enabled, then remember that the logfile keeps growing. - You can't deduct credits from uploaders or refund credits to downloaders that are not in the U/D-log (anymore). - In this version it's impossible to return more than once the credits to an uploader when resurrecting files, so you have to check the log to see how many times credits were deducted.
