They were then loaded into DCTV and saved in their display format with no alterations. The images have anywhere from 3 to 10 lights, use Gouraud shading, and are using 16 to 4096 color IFF bitmaps either wrapped, projected, or tiled onto the polygons. All images were rendered in the ham mode to adjust the lights and color, some several times. Ham mode renders (352 x 480) took between 1 and 2 minutes each, depending on the number of polygons in the drawing. This fast render offers a great way to preview what you get in the 24 bit file and the ham images are quite good and usable themselves. If you like what you see in the ham, you'll love what you get in the 24 bit. The images were then rendered on a stock Amiga 2500 in 704 by 480 pixels in full 24 bit IFF compressed files. These files range from 242,000 bytes for Sword, to 516,000 bytes for COI. The longest render time was for COI, taking 6 minutes. The shortest was for Gyro or OnAStick, each taking between 2 and 3 minutes. These times INCLUDE the 24 bit save, as the save occurs during the scanline render. Draw4D-Pro and DCTV work great together as multitasking tools in your 24 bit design tasks. You just create the drawing, set the lights, apply the textures, preview and render the 24 bit image in Draw4D, then switch to DCTV, load the image to proof what you have. You can even then use the excellent paint and other tools of DCTV to modify the image if you need to, including converting to Amiga modes from the 24 bit file, for some really good 16, 32, or 4096 versions of the image. The 24 bit images can also be loaded into Digi-View 4.0 for conversion to Amiga modes, or your favorite publishing package for printing. Those nice, professional illustrations you have seen on the cover of the magazines are mostly 24 bit images printed in PostScript on a high end printer. And of course, you can view the 24 bit images on any frame buffer or display device that can handle them, and get really unbelievable results on a 24 bit RGB display unit, like the Firecracker, or the upcoming Colorburst. Draw4D-Pro will be available around the end of May, 1991, and includes full animation tools that are intuition based. No scripts are needed. Animations can be saved in the Anim format, or as single frames. 24 bit animations can be easily generated using single frames, then recorded to a single frame recorder, or converted to DCTV format, assembled to an anim file in any program that does this, such as DPaint III, and viewed or put on tape through the DCTV unit. With Draw4D-Pro, and any of the good, inexpensive display devices now available, you can begin working in the exciting world of 24 bit 3D modeling in real time. No more waiting hours just to see if you set the lights right!
