O'Brien's wife, Keiko, makes occasional appearances as she did on The Next Generation. Lieutenant Jadzia Dax Lieutenant Jadzia Dax is a unique representative of the Federation - a member of the Trill race, first seen in The Next Generation episode, THE HOST. Although outwardly she appears to be a human female, inside she has a long-lived parasitic creature with whom she shares a symbiotic relationship. She and Commander Sisko knew each other from the past - but at that time, Dax was a male. The relationsip between her and Sisko grows and changes and her relationships with others on the station should prove interesting as the series progresses. Major Kira Representing the Bajorans on the station is Major Kira, an ex-member of a rebel group of Bajorans who practiced terrorist acts on the Cardassians. She has now apparently given up her former ways, and is working for the leading political faction of Bajor as a liaison to the Federation. Security Chief Odo Also aboard the station is Security Chief Odo, a member of an unknown race with the ability to transform his shape into anything he chooses. While his history is still much unknown, we do know he was the Security Chief on the station when the Cardassians were in control and was asked to remain on when the Bajorans and the Federation took over the station. Tana Loss has a plan to obtain a bomb to destroy the wormhole in the belief that if the wormhole is destroyed, neither the Cardassians or the Federation would be interested in Bajor or the station any longer. Meanwhile, Keiko, restless at having nothing to do on the station as a botanist, decides to open a school for the children living on the station. They bring her back to the station along with her curios from archeological digs in the quadrant. Q pays a visit to the station to try and convince Vash to travel with him again as they did when they left the Enterprise together in the episode QPID. Vash has no plans to go with Q and there is some obvious enmity between them. Instead, she joins with Quark in a business venture to sell the items she has found in the Gamma Quadrant. Meanwhile, a strange energy drain befuddles the crew of the station and draws them inexorably closer to the worm hole. DAX Producer:Peter Lauritson Teleplay:D.C. Dax refuses to defend herself in any way and the task of her defense befalls to Commander Sisko and Odo who must try to prove that Kurzon Dax (her old Trill identity) and Jadzia Dax (her current Trill identity) are not the same being. But, he is ailing and cannot continue as Nagus and so selects Quark as his successor instead of others who consider themselves more worthy of the title. VORTEX Producer:Peter Lauritson Writer:Sam Rolfe Director:Winrich Kolbe A visitor to the station (Kroden) from the Gamma quadrant tries to rob Quark and twin Myridon's who are trying to fence a valuable item. The robbery attempt is foiled by Odo who takes Kroden prisoner but not before one of the Myridon's is killed. While in custody, Kroden tells Odo that he's encountered other changelings in the Gamma Quadrant and a strange necklace he wears may hold the key to Odo's past. BATTLE LINES Producer:Peter Lauritson Teleplay:Richard Danus, Evan Carlos Somers Story:Hilary Bader Director:Paul Lynch Kai Opaka, makes a mysterious visit to the station and Commander Sisko, Major Kira and Dr. Bashir take her on a tour through the worm-hole. However, their ship is shot down by probes and crash-lands on a moon occupied by two groups of aliens engaged in an eternal war. One faction, led by a inexperienced child named Varis, is holding lands claimed by the other faction, led by Wolban. The original boundary between the two is a river which had been diverted from its course by the Cardassians. Varis is befriended by Jake and Nog, who help her to find a compromise. Meanwhile, Dr. Bashir and Chief O'Brien travel to Bajor to tend to an ailing leader of a village. The leader, known as The Sirah, is responsible for chasing away the Dal Mok that visits the village for 5 nights every year. The Dal Mok is a fearsome storm made up of unknown energy and The Sirah (or Storyteller) is the only one who can chase it away. When the Sirah dies of old age, he chooses O'Brien as his successor. The captain dies almost immediately, only able to tell them one word "Victory". After his death, all of the inhabitants, except Odo begin to behave... differently. IN THE HANDS OF THE PROPHETS Producer:Peter Lauritson Writer:Robert Hewitt Wolfe Director:David Livingston In a wonderful parallel to our society, a Bajoran religious leader (Vedek Winn), objects to the things Keiko is teaching in her school on board the space station. In particular, she objects to Keiko not teaching Bajoran religion. Vedek's Winn's complaint, and the reaction of Bajorans on the station, sets Bajor against the Federation and threatens to destroy everything that Commander Sisko and the Federation have done to establish an alliance. Sisko and the crew, unwilling to turn over the sector and the wormhole to the Circle and their arms supplier, stay behind to hold the station long enough to get evidence to the council that would break the rebellion. But, O'Brien gets infected and both are trapped on a desolate planet when the two formerly warring races unite to kill the two of them. WHISPERS Producer:Peter Allen Fields Writer:Paul Robert Coyle Director:Les Landau O'Brien returns to the station after discussing security arrangements with the Paradan's - a race besieged by civil war who are planning a peace conference at the station. However, O'Brien finds everyone on DS9 acting weirdly and begins to suspect they've been taken over by someone or something that wants to destroy the conference. Meanwhile, while flying a runabout through the wormhole, Dax and Arjin encounter a strange phenomena which they bring back to the station and later discover that it's a proto-universe which is expanding and will soon destroy the station unless they destroy it, and the possibly intelligent beings inside, first. They are naturally dismayed to find that Curzon Dax is now Jadzia Dax but the new Dax entity feels just as loyal as Curzon would have been and joins them on their quest. Fans of the original Star Trek series, should remember the three Klingons played by their original actors: Kor (John Colicos), first appeared in the episode ERRAND OF MERCY, Kang (Michael Ansara) first appeared in DAY OF THE DOVE and Koloth (William Campbell, who also appeared in the SQUIRE OF GOTHOS) appeared in THE TROUBLE WITH TRIBBLES. THE MAQUIS, PART 1 Producer:Peter Allen Fields Teleplay:James Crocker Story:Rick Berman, Michael Piller, Jeri Taylor, James Crocker Director:David Livingston In the STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION episode "Journey's End" it was revealed that a truce with the Cardassians had been established and a neutral zone had been created but that several colonies, both Cardassian and Federation, found themselves on the wrong side of the zone. None of the colonies wishes to relinquish control of the planets they worked so hard to claim so instead, Cal Hudson (and others) attempt to arrange a peace. But the Cardassians seem to have other plans and war appears to be breaking out in the colonies. Sisko finds himself in the middle of the war when the Bok'Nor is blown up by a saboteur at DS9. Sisko's unlikely partner in getting to the bottom of what's going on - none other than Gul Dukat, the former commander of DS9. TRIBUNAL Producer:Peter Allen Fields Writer:Bill Dial Director:Avery Brooks Miles and Keiko leave for vacation on a runabout. But, before they get very far, their runabout is intercepted by Gul Evek on a Cardassian warship. Instead of the relaxing vacation, Miles finds himself taken to Cardassia Prime, to stand trial for smuggling weapons to the Maquis. JEM'HADAR Prodcuer:Peter Allen Fields Writer:Ira Steven Behr Director:Kim Friedman Sisko plans to take Jake on a field trip to a small, quiet planet on the other side of the wormhole so Jake can work on a science project. Jake asks if Nog can join them since Nog also has a science project to do. Quark seizes on this opportunity to tag along, ostensibly as Nog's guardian but with his own plans for convincing Sisko to allow Quark to advertise on the station's monitors. The field trip is interrupted though by Eris, who is escaping from the Jem'Hadar - members of the Dominion.
