c04I  am  sitting  in a train carrying me
from  my  home city Olomouc to Prague.
I  am  going  there  for some business
reasons.   You  know  - Sceners got to
work  to  stay  alive when they grow a
bit  older  as well, but it is not the
point  of this all.  Everytime I leave
home, and it does not really matter if
the  planned journey lasts for several
days  or  one  year - strange feelings
reach  my mind.  I feel sad.  Although
there  is  not a single reason to feel
anything like that, as far as I know I
will   come   back   tomorrow.   I  am
convinced   that   it   is  inside  of
everyone - when one is leaving beloved
places of one's own, there must always
be  something  like  that within one's
brain.    Known  things  left  behind,
unknown ones ahead...

c02Now  I am getting closer to the reason
why this article has such a beginning.
That  is  because it reminds me of the
same  feelings I had when I was forced
to leave the Amiga Scene more than one
year  ago.   I  think you all know the
story already:  My Amiga was burnt due
for a fire accident while I had to buy
myself  a  PC for bureau work, that is
it.   The destiny was making decisions
without   me   not   asking  a  single
question.   I have always been calling
myself  a  Scener,  it  has  not  ever
mattered  if  it  was Atari ST/Falcon,
Amiga or PC.  I thought it was all the
same  -  the people must have felt the
same, haven't they?

c03Thus  I  entered  the  PC Scene hoping
that  Scenish  people are more or less
the same everywhere.  There were Amiga
people who had been telling me:
f4 'Buy a new Amiga instead!  Don't even
dare to think of opening the door!'f1

c02I  did not mind, I did not give a fuck
of  their  advices.   I  though  I was
right.  Oooops, how do I regret now!

c04At  first,  I downloaded the latest PC
releases.   I have seen a lot of demos
before  and  I  found  them  nice  and
interesting,  so  I wanted to see more
of  them,  to get the picture what was
going  on  recently.   I  checked  the
newest  demos,  intros and mainly mags
which  I  was  looking forward to read
the  most.  I have read the first one,
than  the  second, the third...  and I
got the feeling something was wrong.
c03The  design  and  code were both quite
nice,  but  the  core which makes each
mag   a   good  mag  (the  texts)  was
different.   The articles were talking
about topics we (Amiga people) used to
talk  about  in  let's  say 1990.  The
overall  quality  was  bad,  the texts
seemed  to  be  childish and worthless
reading.   Amiga  mags  were  far away
from   the   nowaday's  PC  crap  even
several   years  ago.   Amiga  editors
mostly  talk  about  reasonable topics
and  original  ideas,  PC  ones  waste
their  time  with  every  stupid local
party report, so called funny articles
(like  'is  Billy really a dork?') and
lots of fullscreen adverts.

c02I  though nothing would be that bad so
I   searched  for  some  new  swapping
contacts.   I  got in touch with a few
people,  sent  them  long  letters and
some stuff (which is common I thought)
The  first reply I received included a
short   letter   beginning   with  the
following sentence:
f4 'Hallo  there,  thank you for writing
to me but I have to tell you that your
ARJ     archives     didn't    include
FILE_ID.DIZ!'f1

c04What  the  hell  I  thought!  This guy
cares   for  some  useless  text  file
inside every single archive instead of
the   offered   friendship?   What  an
awfull  attitude I thought.  The other
reply  was  telling  me:
f4 'Hey,  how  are  you?   I've  found a
*.doc  file  on  your  disk, please be
sure  not  to send me any documents in
WORD  format  as  it's a taboo for the
Scene!'f1

c02What  the  hell  for  the second time!
The third reply told me not to use ARJ
archiver  as every cool PC Scener uses
ZIP   instead.   The  fourth  one  was
asking how can I listen to common CD's
while  working  on computer instead of
checking  all those cool XM modules as
every  cool PC Scener listenes to XM's
and  not to CD's...  It was enough for
me!   I  have  been  on various Scenes
since   1990   and   I   haven't  ever
experienced anything like this before!
It nearly got me puking...

c03What  more,  EVERYONE  on the PC Scene
told  me  that  he  hated the machine.
The  PC  Sceners  hate Windows95, they
love  DOS  (which  is  not  a computer
system  of  nowadays  at all I think),
they hate the people around, they seem
to  hate everything!  I've been asking
them  why  the  hell do they stay with
such  a hated platform?  They were not
able  to  answer...   What  a  strange
attitude I say!

c04Well, this is really not the Scene for
all  those Amiga owners who are losing
their    faith   in   their   Motorola
(girl)friend.   Next  time, I will not
be  such a heretic not believeing what
other people say, you can count on it!
