Upgrade or die! --------------- By Edward This month I went and bought two games both which needed 030 processors, (Xtreme and Breathless) and I was amazed at the quality of them, they were superb!. But the Average A1200 owner doesn't even have a Hard drive! yet a 030 CPU so how do games publishers expect to do a decent game on the A1200 if there still restricted to a 020?. I know a lot of Amiga owners that have a AGA machine which is just the stock machine not even a external drive!. They expect to have high quality amazing software that is blindly fast and is in 1 billion colours on screen, texture mapped with CD-quality sound and network ability running of a 2meg 14mhz 1.3mips machine with no Hard drive from one floppy disk!. Maybe 3 years ago, when the Amiga was the premier platform for games yeah, but now most games on the PC require a Pentium and 8 meg of ram to work and EVERYONE has a Hard drive on the PC!. Ok so you don't need high specs like that to run doom on the Amiga because it is efficient with ram, CPU and disk space, but at least a 030 should be considered as a essential piece of hardware with some more ram. If this happened then we would see more games like Breathless on the Amiga and better software that takes advantage of the CPU. But most of you lamers out there say, 'no I'm spending that money on a PC (1000 pounds), I can then run doom etc'. This really gets on my Tits, if your going to spend 1000 pounds on a machine just to play doom when it can be done for 180 quid (price of a 030) then you are wasting a lot of money of a piece of inefficient piece of hardware. spend that 1000 pounds on this: a) 540-1 Gig HardDrive (3.5 inch) (180 quid from Escom) This will give you more than enough space and you now start to use serious applications faster on a HardDrive b) 030/50MHZ- 2-4 meg ram (300 quid) Watch your Amiga Whizz!, all those games will be dirt fast and applications will be a joy to use, also multi-tasking will be wonderful c) CD-ROM quad speed 100-200 quid Depending on where you look you can get em cheap then you can use all the FMV stuff and all the AmiNet CD-roms full of software. d) Modem (14400 90-130 quid) (optional) Make new friends on the BBS scene and go interneting e) Monitor (optional) 300 quid You can use all the other AGA screen modes that you can't see on a normal TV screen and its better for your eyes. TOTAL PRICE: (APPROX.) 1000 Pounds or cheaper Yes but I can get a Pentium which 4 faster than a 030, and the other stuff for the same price, including win95. Yes but you'll need realistically 16 meg+ ram to efficiently run stuff and have to upgrade nearly every other month to stay on top. With the Amiga the technology will last you until and beyond 97 but by then you'll have a Power Amiga won't you? :) END ---
