The distributor of Newsflash in Holland decided to lower the amount of magazines in the bookshops because of lower sales due to recession and piracy in Holland. But with this lower amount we can no longer cover the printing and duplication costs of the magazine. We would get below our break-even-point and that was for me the reason to end distribution of Newsflash in Holland. As a result of this I have no financial base left to produce this popular magazine. With todays piracy and the recession I see no longer chances that this situation will change the coming winterseason. Let's face the facts. Many serious AMIGA users have left the AMIGA and now own a PC which now offers a better value for money. Most of the current AMIGA users are young students and scholars who are quite creative but have not much money to spend on software. The last 2 years I could finance this magazine from the money made with Powerpacker and other products but the piracy is making any serious sales in Europe impossible and Commodore's strange marketing of the new AMIGA models doesn't give me new hope for the coming months. In e.g. Holland and the USA you have to drive many miles to find an AMIGA dealer and buying software seems to become impossible in shops. I know the situation is little different in the UK but the main market in the UK is still games and we are not in games. People like Martyn Brown (Team 17) are quite succesful in this market because they concentrate on good arcade games. For us, a Dutch company, we have a very difficult base to work from. Only 1 paper magazine, almost no AMIGA dealers and piracy on a mass scale. Don't say that this is because software is expensive, because all our AMIGA products are sold overhere for only Fl 49.95 which is around US$ 29.95 so I think for everyone affordable. We will continue upgrading some of our current products (like Power- packer and Powermenu) but only for export outside Holland. Overhere we will concentrate on PC Newsflash and our interesting range of PC budget software. I like to thank all legal buyers of our magazine & products for their kind support during the last 4 years. Also all contributors who offered us ownmade material for use on Newsflash deserve a special thanks. I will not pick up this magazine again. I have warned the public some months ago that we really needed more legal readers and this had totally no effect on our sales. I am sorry but we have to live too. But for people who like music and utilities I will pick up my PD work again and make in my freetime every month 2-3 new disks with music and utilities. I will use the interface of Newsflash for the disks and will call the new series: NEWSFLASH FREEWARE The disks will be divided in 3 groups: - Utilities - Music - Artwork/Demos If you have ownmade material for these disks feel free to send them to us and receive the 2 latest disks in return. The disks will be freely redistributable so everyone can enjoy them. You can order the first 3 disks from us by sending us Fl 20.-- (Holland) or US$ 15.00 (Europe). I will release the first 3 disks in the month August (93). At last I want to say goodbye because this is the last time I write this editorial. It is always sad to stop something you like to do but I have to run a business too and can't fight a lost battle. I can only hope that people will finally understand that a computer without software developers will be doomed. You decide the future of this great computer, support good products so developers can continue their work. For us it is too late but there are still people putting a lot of time in AMIGA developments, SUPPORT THEM!! they deserve it..........
